This might sound pessimistic (to some people) but after listening to that game, it is being fuelled by emotion. I believe we have the squad mentality and the manager to keep us in this league, but it is obvious we lack quality. At the end of the day quality is crucial to Premiership survival. The season so far has just been the same old story, effort, chances to win, but ultimately lose.

I think there is still a slim hope of us staying up, and I’ll continue believing so until we have the R next to us, but I now think the January targets should be players that will give us a good chance of finishing in the play-offs or above in the Championship next season as opposed to expensive Premiership mercenaries who wont give a stuff if we go down.

This season was always going to be tough, and staying up would have been unimaginably brilliant, but even if we go down, we need to continue with the long-term plan. Just because we may get relegated things are still looking positive – new stands, young players and I would hope Aidy would stick with us, or that the board would find someone else equally capable of making us a Premiership club if he did leave.

The future? I'd like to be able to say we might become a yoyo club, gain a bit of vital experience and cement our place in the premiership in a couple of years time. Unfortunately with the television money increasing next season I fear the gulf between premiership and championship is only going to increase. People can say we came up to early this season, but lets face it we needed to come up this season to be in with a chance of having our slice of that pie.
A more astute performance in the transfer market over summer could have made all the difference, but infortunately that is entering into the realms of what ifs again!

I'm still not convinced that the targets Aidy wanted to sign wanted to come here.

I agree, we did have to go up last season, you have to take the chance when it comes along (Leeds fans will tell us that). The gulf will probably get bigger, but teams like us always have a chance of getting promoted again.

whats to say we won't go back to our old ways of bottom of the table scraps in the championship if we get relegated

Teams like us will always have a chance of promotion, agreed. but my point is it will be harder to stay up from now on because the premiership television money is going up. Of course, there is a possibility that the parachute payments will increase for teams who get relegated from next season due to television money increasing which would then make the championship a harder league to get out of as well.

Of course Boothroydproved last season that a lot of spirit and a little quality can go a long way. But we are discovering this season the limits of how far that can take you....the bottom line is money matters!
