The irony of course not being lost on you that the term fake news was coined by someone to cast doubt on reputable news organisations that gave him unfavourable coverage. By instantly dismissing stuff as rubbish without understanding who is posting it and if there is any corroboration, you are actually helping disinformation rather than fighting it.

Yet the only ones getting angry and frustrated on this thread especially are you and Opti when letting strangers take control of your emotions.

It's easy to calmly say that our club is a shambles from top to bottom.

your completely missing the point if you actually go back and read my other messages...i have no problem with discussing debate and rumours. what i don't agree with is the insulting of people over claims that are unfounded? rumours should be discussed, but insults and accusations towards the clubs hierachy should not be made unless they can be proven!

I was more replying to Jumbolina for the bit you put in bold. Of course rumours can be discussed, that's not what I'm saying. The Capoue rumour for example, the club are taking pelters from some people for this despite it just being a rumour. I think it's fair to say that if the club did do this with Capoue then absolutely be critical but people criticise as though it's fact, that's my point. There will of course be rumours that do actually happen but it's a very low percentage

This isn’t a journalism forum. If anything libellous is said, mods will take care of it. It’s not your job to moderate what people say, choose to believe or how they react.

no i agree with that, but that should stop me from pointing out when in my opinion someone is being completely irrational.

anyway burnsy look just let it go, im not going to fall into the trap that other posters have with you in the past. i actually like your posts and have no desire to turn this into a slagging match.

Yes - but those who are going off the deep end are just saying ‘this is how I will see it or react if proven to be accurate’ - where’s the problem?

Neither do I. I wasn’t criticising as much as trying to understand.

Ah okay, I haven’t seen those or we have a different take. That’s fine though!

I do understand the scepticism that some/most journalism has now. A free press should always be protected - but sadly that’s increasingly given poor journalists free reign to post nonsense without reproach. However, I still prefer to take most of what I read in relation to transfers with a pinch of salt - but still discuss the merits of the content as if were assumed to be true, rather than just dismiss it out of hand.

Jumbolina has replied on the amount owed -£50m. This is all as at 30/6/19-Sarr was purchased after this along with the sale of Lukbakio-until the accounts as at 30/6/20 are filed in December the up to date figure on what we owe both on transfer instalments and externally cannot be known.

Even then it will not call out specifically what we owe for which player but it is a feature of transfers that not all is paid up front

That's actually not true. Trump warped the use of it to achieve precisely what you said, but it already existed.

His claims that he invented "fake news" are, as it happens, fake news. The term was already in use long before he first used it, originally (and correctly) being a descriptor for the bizarre clickbait outlets that make up absolute nonsense to get clicks and earn advertising revenue.

Dont forget in England the burden of proof in non criminal cases is just 'on the balance of probabilities' ie more likely than not. Id say that the Capoue rumours are more likely than not true. I'd also say on the balance of probabilities Giraldi is to micro management what Agent Orange is to 1970s Vietnamese childcare.

So one Valencia based news outlet says one thing and it’s treated as nonsense...yet another Valencia news outlet says something more agreeable and it’s believed to be the truth.

    As that’s what I’m reading?

Nah the same newspaper posted two days ago that the move was nearing completion. I would expect the other outlet to backpeddle fairly quickly too.

I would speculate that was happened is someone in Valencia has leaked their interest to the press to provide some positivity for their fans. They probably also hoped that it would get capoue to use player power to force a move. I don’t think the pozzos are idiots though. Why let capoue move for a loan with no fee and no future fee, with only wages being paid on an I.o.u basis when there would definitely be takers for him in the premiership?

Leventhal says we want more than £4m and won’t entertain a loan. But we are open to him leaving if it’s financially viable and hints the player has a desire to leave.

pretty much word for word of that other paper then. Do we reckon leaventhal still has an inside scoop? Or does he just congregate information?

He has the inside scoop occasionally other times he congregates information. It's a mixture of both, but he's the best source of information we have........so we can't knock him. No one else knows as much as him outside of the club.

I think he likely has one source who he gets some info from - but that source likely doesn’t get all the clubs scoops as it were.

He knew the Ivic deal had been signed off before anyone else for instance. But seems a bit behind the curve with some transfer stuff.

I went for a beer in a backstreet earlier while the wife went to the shops for the afternoon. Had a chat with a bar owner ‘Paul’ - Olympiakos fan. He could not have been happier that Holebas has returned! It’s their cup final on Sunday vs AEK - but no new signings are allowed to play!

I’m not sure how you make it only £50m. 2018/2019 Revenue was £143m. Last season will be no more than £100m, this season will be no more than about £45m. Our lower league position and relegation will cost us about £100m in total compared to 2018/2019 even if we get promoted at the first attempt. As a bare minimum one season in the championship will cost us £60m over a 17th placed premier league finish. So even if we get promoted straight back up, to somehow operate as ‘a premier league club’ for one season will mean plucking at least £60m from somewhere, but where?

I'm not even sure it's that they are necessarily poor journalists. Often they don't even do any of their own investigations due to the nature of the internet. People want to be the first to break a story and often there are no repercussions for getting the facts completely wrong. This doesn't just apply to sports journalism and certainly includes supposedly reputable news organisations.

  34. Ainzrocker

Is this not where the player sales come in? Doucoure, Delufeou, Pussetto and Welbeck should generate about £55m between them and doubt we'll reinvest any of it. Having them and Pereyra off the wage bill should also reduce the wage bill for the year by c.£12m.

Sports journalism can always just claim ‘sources’ and write what they wish without having to substantiate it.

Watch SSN - as soon as Leventhal mentions something about us, it invariably pops up on their news bar an hour later claiming ‘sources’...
