Yes I’m not saying anything about the Deulofeu comments - I missed those ?
I’m sure it was very much a smoothing over job. Get out of the meeting without giving away too much detail but appear to have given responses of some sort to all. Just as most clubs I’m sure.
Re the debt IIRC we had 3rd party debt of £59m or so (…roughly ) and if they have used the Pedro money to cover £30m of that then I feel a lot more comfortable…as long as they don’t then borrow more to support Ismael!

 

Yeah spot on, this is the biggest issue for me. The revolving door of head coaches hasn't worked for the past few years and each have a different style with different player requirements. There doesn't appear to be a playing philosophy.

Pozzo did refer to a philosophy but I think there's little evidence for this or it is something Ben Manga has worked on in his short time in the role.

 

Perhaps the LR screenshots were taken so he could defend himself when the inevitable criticism came his way ?

 

13 years on here and I've never seen that before. What enjoyment is there in 'keeping receipts' of random people on a football forum to then go back over later. Especially after what he said in the first place being incredibly libellous!

I'm very tired, I'm sure you're all interested to know, so I'll try to keep this brief.

Having just read the 3rd instalment of last nights meeting via Andrew French on the WO site, it's quite obvious Pozzo wasn't stating an exact figure re. Gracia. A couple of posters have already intimated had he said 'approximately' or 'about' when quoting numbers, he would have been justified quoting the wrong numbers. Well, he did.

"...When you mention with Javi Gracia – if you look the dip in form started the year before. I think it was, like, out of the last 16 games we lost 13 and won one..."

So as you can see, he wasn't sure of the exact numbers and said as much.

Someone has also posted there was no mention of Giaretta. Maybe not directly but the constant banging on of having a solid structure behind the scenes appears to show it's important to Pozzo to have familiar faces around him. As Giaretta also appears to be a trusted member of the Udinese camp, I'd take from that it will take more than one social media gaff (and what a gaff!) for Pozzo to get rid of anyone he considers integral to his team.

Whether that sits well alongside the hiring & firing of head coaches, probably not, but it appears he places more importance on the stability of background staff (DoF, SD etc) than the head coach.

One final point (my eyes hurt, so so tired...) on Giaretta. It's often asked what he actually does. It was mentioned by one previous Head Coach (I can't remember which one, there have been too many) that Giaretta was the go-to-man if he needed anything. Presumably he wasn't talking sandwich fillings, coffee types or anything to do with lepidopterism. Instead, anything a HC needs arranging but by passing that responsibility over to our Head Butterfly Curator, leaves him more time to dedicate towards football matters or simply time to switch off.

The inevitable deserved criticism from acting like a complete idiot on the shoutbox you mean? Again Interesting that you feel (selectively) screenshoting the shoutbox as you go along is totally normal behaviour when it’s from someone who you largely always agree with.

I wasn't on Shoutbox so I can't comment on that, I'm just going on what I've seen this morning. I don't think Lowerrous helps himself sometimes but you certainly seem to be the first to pick him up on something

Giaretta is about 6'6". Maybe that's why Gino won't sack him.

Manga is about 5'4".

Luther was there but didn't seem to have a role. Think it was more having someone who could calm the fans down if it got ugly.

The statement that Gracia was 'not playing' Deulofeu is just as ridiculous tbf. Other than when he was injured or the brief period when Andre Gray was regularly scoring goals, Deulofeu was a regular starter and one of our best players.

 

So Gino wasn’t there, Tony Stark’s was. Can’t believe our fans fell for it!

Good point, guess we'll find out when it's transcribed! Definitely sounded like shell at the time but yes this would fit far better.

 

This is the perfect example of the problem last night, people unable just to ask one focused question and therefore letting them off the hook. If this bloke had just stopped after the first one (a good question) then it forces a response from Pozzo (fine, he's hardly going to agree, but still would've had to respond). But people love the sound of their own voice so a further three questions follow and Duxbury steps in to answer the easiest of the four.

Mr Pozzo, you mention about you are here every day. Do you think that might be part of the problem, that a coach doesn’t want you here all the time, looking over their shoulder? Every single time it’s the manager. Every single time it’s the wrong manager. We’re either really bad at hiring, or we’re really good at firing – or a combination of both. Also, what about the underlying culture? Is there anything else underpinning that’s been identified for change in order to support each of the next managers? Something that we’ve learnt rather than the fact it’s always the manager?

True, but given the fact that this was a once in a decade chance to speak to Pozzo, I can't really blame them.

One thing that wasn't mentioned was that the coffee was terrible. Horrible instant stuff.

 

No I didn’t, I said they said they made mistakes but then wouldn’t ever give any specifics regarding what mistakes, and when any particular mistakes were presented to them they doubled down on them and blamed something else. It’s no good saying you’ve made mistakes if you don’t actually mean it, and aren’t willing to pinpoint specific mistakes you think you’ve made.

If you’re satisfied with meaningless platitudes then that’s your lookout of course.

Well, there we are. From reading the transcript it looks like Pozzo did qualify his statement. So I stand (at least partially) corrected.

Probably highlights how valuable it would’ve been for the transcript and recording to be the first thing released so we could all react to what was *actually* said. Live blogging a meeting like that is hard. It’s impossible to record everything verbatim but judgements are inevitably going to be made from an incomplete record.
