At the start of each season I bet quite a bit on football, I know everyone remembers and talks about winners and don't boast about the losers, the last few seasons I have actually finished up from a mixed bunch of well known bookies, When I went to put bets on the start of the 2012-2013 season they had reduced my limit to a about a £1.00 for 50/1 shots and about £5.00 to anything around 10/1, I could understand if I bet large amounts on favs but I dont, I got lucky with a few 100/1 shots. I emailed the bookies and they sent a standard reply about betting patterns and read the small print they also stopped me using their special money back offers and free bet offers. This season I have lost a fortune, does this mean they will want my limit up so I can lose more? Is it like a credit rating where they can share info?

They say I can phone them to make a big bet but dont really want the hassle as so easy to do it on-line.

There are so many online bookies out there that a few closures won't hurt you. For the record, I've lost accounts or been severely limited at betvictor, Bet365, Sportingbet and Coral. I'd wager you got limited at bet365, they're notorious for it.

If you haven't got a Betfair account then get one today, you will NEVER be limited in any way and odds are superior to bookies. Another good exchange is Betdaq. Bookies that are slow to limit accounts are Stan James and William Hill.

Cheers for that, got accounts with most of them and the bets I do are not just league winners, most my big betters are Handicap, it the starting points and odds can vary considerably, Sky bet were the worse and their reply was basically to F off and and I was always betting to get the best odds? Thats what I thought you were meant to do?

Paddy power are the worse, they refuse to answer my email when I asked them why?,

I heard the same about 365, I took them for the most, they have limited me but still send me and honor the the bet offers.

Yes I know about betfair, but a lot of bets I do they dont run.

When you lose a load does the limit go up again

I always thought it the bookies were like veags, when you lose, you lose, when you win you keep on betting until you lose, they get you eventually.

I could understand if I had taken one bookie for £5000+ but on a good season my best has been about £2500 split between about 10 bookies? They have got most of that back this season!

Do they share data between themselves?

I think I would rather they close my account then limit me to less than a pound a bet?

Forgot about skybet, also had the same reply from them when they closed my account. Once limited you will never get those limits raised again, even if you lose loads, sorry. On some bookies I've found I can get more on big events only.

Many Bookies run something called iesnare, it's a way of tracking other bookies you may visit online. Google it. I don't use Internet Explorer for any bookies anymore, use Chrome or Firefox.

Move on to the next bookies.

Cheers again, They have never closed my accounts but they may as well have, do they send you an email and tell you they are going to close it or just not let you bet? Or do they suspend it and never open it again.

I was not sure about the limits getting extended again, you have answered that.

I thought with all the competition out there the last thing they want is to shut accounts, the odds were calculated so the bookies always won on at least broke even?

    Thanks for your help!

Could someone explain the premise of betfair to me? Don't understand it.

Betfair is an agent that matches bets against each other. It's like you betting with your mate. Betfair takes a small percentage for facilitating the transaction.

The only exception is for multiples where you do bet against betfair.

It is also easier to "lay" a bet if you want
