Iggy has publically stated that he dreams of playing for Man Utd so he has already issued a come and get me plea. However assuming Mourinho takes over in the summer, I think any bid is highly unlikely as he will be looking at bigger fish.
He mentioned in an interview for Nigerian media that he'd find it hard to say no to United as he watched them as a kid as far as I know. The British media has jumped all over that interview and linked him to every big club going including United and along the way have plucked a £12m price tag out of thin air. A come and get me plea? No.
Yep, but the poor recruitment in 13/14 and failure to adequately replace key players meant that we underperformed massively. We were able to get away with that in the Championship, stay in the division and have another go next season; that will probably not be the case in the PL.
Not really, I think most would interpret your post as not having faith in the regime to adequately replace Ighalo?? Bit of a silly pointless post otherwise. Anyway, on that subject, you claim we replaced Vydra with Acuna, Hogg with Iriney and Chalobah with McGugan. So? Every club gets it wrong occassionally. Weren't these players soon out the door? Replaced by UPGRADES, Ighalo, Munari and Toszer. All played a key part in our promotion, the regime got it right, and got it right quickly. They know what they're doing. IF we sell Ighalo, we will replace him! Life goes on.
And what has that got to do with wanting ''Pozzo out'' and saying that ''he knows nothing about football or scouting networks''? Please let me know where I have said anything close to that because I certainly didn't in the post that you quoted. And yes eventually those key players from 12/13 were replaced, but the point I was making is that it isn't always as simple to replace players for various reasons - some with absolutely nothing to do with shortcomings of the club hierarchy - as our original attempt to do so in 13/14 showed. That season we failed miserably in our attempt to get promotion. If we lose key players again this summer and fail to replace them we could just as easily fail miserably in our aim of staying in the Premier League. It is incredibly naive to ignore the possibility of things going wrong with regard to something as unpredictable as player recruitment. Our transfer committee have shown in the past (right up until the start of this season) that they are not immune to getting these things wrong.
Who will we replace Paul Furlong with? Who will we replace Tommy Mooney with? Who will we replace Heidar Helguson with? Who will we replace Marlon King with? Who will we replace Danny Graham with? Who will we replace Matej Vydra with? Who will we replace Odion Ihalgo with? Of course 15-20 goal premier league forward don't grow on trees, but hey, life always moves on. Deeney and Ighalo will both be gone in 5 years (probably) and we'll be arguing about getting £40m or £50m for that argentinian wonder kid, wondering how we'll replace him. WFC and the Pozzos have one of the better recruitment/scouting and succession policies.
Well with Jurado out injured, the boo boys have got to pick on someone, it may as well be Iggy or Amrabat. This week Iggy as a stop gap.
Sky sports reporting that West Brom want to sign Ighalo. Can't see them bidding more than £38m! http://www.skysports.com/football/n...rom-want-to-sign-watford-striker-odion-igahlo
Perhaps they will offer Berahino + 15m for Iggy I'd snatch their arms off if they did, or even if it was only £10m in cash.
Don't really see what Iggy would achieve by moving to West Brom other than an initial signing on fee. Can't imagine he would get a huge wage increase.
Would still swap him for Berahino if the price is right. Berahino has played wide in a 3 up front as well.
Iggy looks like he's found his shooting boots again judging from pre-season... we'd be bonkers to sell. I wouldn't trust Berahino to score more than him, nor the Pozzos to be able to get in a better goalscorer based on our current transfermarket problems.
It's fine: sell him so we can be linked with a series of high calibre replacements. Whether they actually sign for us or not is irrelevant.
Is it just a coincidence that this story has broken after a new Chinese consortium takes over WBA? It must have been a big story in China (at least in football cirvles) that we were offered £38m for Ighalo. If I was a decision maker in the club, I would be interested in this approach if Berahono is being offered in part exchange.
WBA will not sell Berahino without a replacement lined up - Pulis would not allow it. As one of the 8 teams competing with us to avoid getting dragged into the relegation places we should do nothing to strengthen them and weaken ourselves. However Berahino, Evans and £10 million for Ighalo should be considered.
Seems unlikely - I know they have new money but we've re-buffed them before (as they have with us) so only a swap deal might do it.
Ighalo dreams of playing for Man United. That may never happen but with that ambition I have my doubts about him wanting to go to West Brom. Anyway Berahino can be a bit of a sulker. If Wally makes him sulk we've had it.
If Ighalo was any good, a big club would want him. Get rid and replace with Berahino, but only if we can beat a good club to his signing, otherwise no thanks.
If a reasonable price is offered i would take it, but i would not take berahino from what i have heard from people who have supported clubs he has been at he very much affects things in the dressing room in a bad way
We'd be crazy to sell a proven goal scorer to a potential relegation rival, especially if the replacement was to be Berahino (who only scored 4 goals in 28 appearances last season)
To be honest, if we're going to play 4-3-3 I'd rather have Sinclair, Success and Vydra in the wider positions than Iggy. In fact, all 3 of them are more mobile in a 3-5-2 and to be honest, I'd rather see those 3 get more game time.
Yes, let's get rid of our 15 Premier League-goals top scorer for 3 players who have scored a total of 3 Premier League goals between them (or 10 top flight goals if you count Success' 7 in 2 seasons for Granada)... that must be one of your hornet gags.
Are you on your period? Evening Primrose Oil might help. How many goals did Iggy score at Granada? BOOM BABY...so your point is moot. My point was the lack of mobility and genuine pace and having more game time from those three means a different problem for defenders to face. Iggy was static during his dry spell, he stopped making runs and couldn't make a 10 yard pass if his life depended on it. He became predictable and easy to defend against. The one game where he didn't cut a 10 yard groove in the middle of the pitch was Manure away where he actually made channel runs, he caused the defence problems..but unforunately his finishing was woeful that night. Maybe it was complacency on his part because there was no competition for his place...therefore more game time for the others will make him up his game. However, think back to certain games last season, when Troy had to push to the right wing to counter the opposition overloading the flanks. Iggy stood up front alone and the ball never stuck and kept on coming back...who would you have preferred the outball to a lone striker to be Troy or Iggy? I'd prefer Troy. If you're playing a 4-3-3 with Troy in the centre, who would be better suited to the flank position? I think Sinclair and Success would be better suited. That was my point...horses for courses. If you want a REALLY radical idea...here's one for you...Vydra as a creative player because I think he can do it in a 3-5-2 because in his pomp, he would drop into the hole between defence and midfield then turn and run at defenders and can pick a pass and run beyond the forward line. However I apologise unreservedly for having an opinion.
