TALKSPORT; Just reported WBA are nosing around for him on a perminant deal for around £3m !!!!!! Yes please
Not sure what happened to the Espanyol deal? Living in Barcelona or the Midlands? Tough choice! In terms of the deal for us, I think that's a fair price. On his day we know he can be excellent, but only has 1 good game in 5! Too risky at this level.
if they get first 15 game Nyom then they are getting a bargain. If they are getting following 30 game Nyom then we are getting a bargain. I expect the latter.
Thank you Allan for taking Cassetti's place as 'right sided full back who loves to give away penalties'. Amrabat looks sets to step into your shoes so you are no longer needed
Quite interesting - I'm sure they have scouted him extensively but Nyom was fantastic in that first game of the season at home to WBA. It can't have not stuck in the Pulis mind as what he is capable of.
I find it slightly odd that anybody on the PL would want him if we clearly don't, a move abroad I can understand, but a move to a lower half rival club makes you wonder what they've seen in him that we haven't, I guess he will likely just be cover though.
Pre-Pozzo we sold our best players for that much. Now that will only buy you our cast-offs who wouldn't make the squad anyway!
TALKSPORT are going with the angle, he's big, quick, started well and is exactly Pulis type of player.. Just signed a 5 year deal, £3m, bargain.. I'm thinking there's more to this.. Stoke now signed Bony on loan... .. can't see them wanting Berahino as well.... WBA won't buy Iggy unless they get the funds from Berahino... could this be part of a bigger swap deal
What a stupid decision by Gino to give him a new contract. It certainly wouldn't have given us any extra leverage at all in sales negotiations. What a fool.
Still struggle to understand why we gave him a new contract after such a dismal second half of the season...
We are essentially replacing Nyom with Mariappa, whilst freeing up a non HG spot, and getting 3-4 million quid for it. That's bloody good business in my eyes. I have been hoping Nyom would rediscover his form from the start of last season, but if anything he is going the other way and becoming more of a liability. Can't see Mariappa getting too near the first team, but should be a good experienced squad player.
Yep, I will always have fond memories of nyoms first few months here - I even dedicated my profile photo to him when I joined this forum - but the fact his brain seems to shrink to the size of a walnut as soon as he crosses the halfway line means this is the right time to say: YOURE **** AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH though if he is played as a defender at west brom and not expected to get forward, then they'll think they've got a bargain
I think people need to stop thinking about how clubs are run and players are managed in the traditional sense. Gino giving Nyom a four year deal and then selling him, isn't Gino thinking you're a great player I want to keep you and then suddenly changing his mind! The players are assets and if they think they can loan them out for a fee in the future, or sell them on it makes sense to give them a longer contract so they have complete control over that player and the situation, its bloody clever business.
Pulis is the guy who routinely plays centre backs at full back. If Nyom's only job is going to be loitering around his corner, muscling people off the ball and hoofing it onto the roof of the Hawthorns, he'll be a club legend in no time.
I understand the point but does a 3 year v 4 year deal make much difference to transfer value in this case? Can't it even work the other way if you are looking to offload someone and the new club are only willing to give a 3 year deal and they become harder to shift? I get it for younger players (like last summer for Vydra). but still don't understand it in the Nyom case.
Really disappointed in him. Had such high hopes but he just went downhill after a great start. Best of luck Allan, but you were just not consistent or good enough for us.
Shame he went so downhill so fast. Always gave his all though and for that I don't think he can be overly criticised.
I remember around about the New Year the club fitted him with a set of old pram wheels with no brakes. He went downhill fast after that.
Wait a minute, Nyom is not suddenly a poor right back. I'd prefer him to Parades in our squad and he was awesome in the first 10 games for us last season. There were comments last season at some point that he was our best signing and would be sold to a champions league club for a lot of money. He wasnt very good at crossing or passing granted and he did make a few errors but I think hes a very good defender at times. We have yet to know if Janmaat will be any better.
So he's not very good at crossing or passing but he's not a poor player? I'd expect any half decent player to be able to pass a football.
Yep, he was a great defender but useless going forward. From what I can gather janmaat is the exact opposite of that. Personally I think being good at defending is the most important thing about a defender, but what do I know....
