What everyone misses again is the elephant in the room. And that's working with the Pozzo 'model'. It's unique. And while it may be a bigger deal for the head coach, it could easily be an issue for his assistant too. He just wants to take a training session. But he gets wind of the fact that he'll be told how to do it by a load of tekkies poring over their laptops in northeast Italy. Suddenly, he doesn't quite like the prospect so much anymore. So until you know if that's the issue or not everything else is just so much hot air and idle speculation (including chucking Di Matteo's name into the ring again).

if this is the area for rumours from a friend of a friend in the know, then id like to pipe up that we had a alternative manager lined up who was german but with experience in england.

the current guy is under severe pressure (no news there) and this fella either has the job or is on the shortlist. maybe this is all balls or maybe its a reason why gibbo went to milwall instead of coming home.

Magath or Rosler hell no. Who else?

Would be an ex player or coach I think as there's not been many German managers in England.

If we have a problem of unrest in the dressing room, I have heard that Thomas Hitzlperger can work miracles in that area.

There was a massive fight and Dyer won due to no neck area to hit, which meant Gibbs had to go as per stipulation of fight referee Albert Riera.

No your comments about a local lad, who supported the club as a boy, gave 20 years service as a player (being released when injured but working his way back to play again as he loved the club so much), whose dad also worked for the club, scouting players that made the club great and got us there in the first place.

Have a read of this excellent interview, http://www.watfordlegends.com/Nigel Gibbs.html Him and his family are a big part of our history along with Elton, Taylor, Tom Walley etc. People who actually cared about the club and the community.

Some of what's been said in this thread is absolutely astonishing.

A man decides he doesn't fancy working for us, and we break into discussion about who should replace the head coach. All without a shred of any evidence, just blind speculation because a few people here don't think his face fits.

    Yeah that's great mate.

But he's turned us down for Millwall. Turned down a chance of creating history and being promoted to the Premier League for Holloway.

Yeah he may have doubts about the model and what not but so what? Running away at the first sign of something that bothers is not loving the club, it's protecting himself.

What's that, getting promoted? We have already done that a fair few times I think, or did everything start again when the Pozzos took over?

Who cares, he's not coming. It doesn't affect the team in any way. We'll have a British coach soon so we'll have to wait and see who it is. Although it's Carlton Palmer as I've already told you.

Have we ever stayed there for a couple of seasons? Solidified ourselves? Adopted a model never seen before in UK football?

Get over it man, Gibbs doesn't really care about Watford that bad, not sure why people are looking elsewhere for people to blame.

Hopefully we get a new English assistant in soon.

You don't get it mate. Working with the Pozzos will be RADICALLY different from the usual, not just a bit. Some managers/coaches will do it and others won't touch it. But it won't be some sort of minor irritation. It'll go right to the heart of their professional integrity. Anyway, none of us have a real handle on why this deal fell through.

So let's all show a bit of respect eh for a guy who gave sterling service to our club before many on here were even born.

Perhaps Gibbs sees Millwall as the platform to step up and wont be given the chance at Watford.
Lets face it, Dyche immediately removed when Pozzo took over.
    McKinlay quickly overturned.

Those two things alone would make anyone think twice about coming into the Watford fold.
Regardless, Millwall could be team that could quite easily fall into a scrap for relegation. If Holloway doesn't keep them a float he could well be out. Perhaps Gibbs will be given a chance in that situation, where as at Watford he cant ever see that happening.

I really doubt Gibbs would base this decision on choosing his next job on who's manager is more likely to be sacked

It's not about the next manager being sacked. It's about supporting opportunity, something our current owners don't do very well.

Dyer said "no" to the deal, so Gibbs had to go to Millwall

Assistant manager of the first team, or assistant coach to the first team coach? Also hasn't he been booted out of here before by Italians? I've no problems in perceiving he's turned the job down at watford rather than turning watford down. There's a difference.

Joka is more forward thinking than us.

He could already see another Watford Legend being available soon to coach back at Watford.

    It's pure guesswork.

I don't blame Joka at all for this. Firstly why wouldn't he want to first find time to research his coaching abilities before he added him to the team.

Secondly, I really respect Joka for agreeing to it, despite the fact it would put his position in an incredibly precarious situation, knowing that a couple of defeats and the fans had a replacement breathing down his neck.

It's a bit sad to blame a manager for taking a week to find time to make a real decision, than it is to blame somebody, who for whatever reason, did not want to be here.

Actually I think everyone's missing a trick here. We have form in taking Arsenal legends and improving them, before returning them. We did it with Rice (and Lansbury?) and hopefully we'll get the chance to do it with Thierry Henry...

I bet the fact that Millwall's a 'traditional set-up' had something to do with Sir Nigel's decision too. What frustrates me is that something that's still not finally decided escapes to the press as fact only for it to be revealed a few days later that it was still under consideration and won't now happen. There seems to be a lack of co-ordination between the various officials within the club about when a final decision has been made and how things are released to the press. Or an annoying leak somewhere. I'm getting a bit fed up now of celebrating a confirmed new apoointment only to be disappointed a few days later that it ain't gonna happen. There's a bit of the Billy McK. about it all again and it's getting a bit silly and unprofessional.

On a positive note the Joker would appear to be very much his own man, fully aware the structure's not quite right yet and working on it. I like that.

    Agreed with this.

If Gibbs was so desperate to come back here, what's a couple of days in the grand scheme of things? He sits in the directors box on Saturday, changes his mind by Monday.

It's not Jokanovic's fault here. I don't think it's anyone's fault. Just one of those things.

Good luck to Gibbs, if he feels working with that nutball Holloway is the best thing for his career then good luck to him. Personally, I laugh at that notion. I laugh heartily. Though my laughs would probably be stifled if I was offered enough money to do it.

Well done Slaviśa, do your own research etc, but in all seriousness, it was a good decision by him, thwarted only by Gibbs and Millwall.

I can't help thinking this was written with a bit of an agenda. Clearly it speculates that Gibbs didn't come because Jokanovic took too long to make up his mind about him. Fans, in general, will read that and blame the manager.

I can certainly see it being another thing to throw at him, should we start losing again. A defeat at Reading, with a new manager, is entirely possible. If that should happen, it will be 5 defeats from 7 matches....or just 6 points from 7 games......plus messing up Gibbs coming back to the club.....it all adds up to a very bad situation for Jokanovic.
