It's the culture of the club that so often creates a situation where the head coaches' position is seemingly untenable, as well as the ill-thought out, scattergun way that they're appointed in the first place. There's a reason that other clubs don't go through nearly as many managerial appointments as we do.

 

Did he?! I thought that was an elderly member of the ground staff who went on the pitch too early looking for divots to pat down. Always forgot his shovel though...

 

Completely agree. We should sign players and coaches that fit into a clear away of playing, like lots of clubs do. We've never done that, and have consistently furnished coaches with squads that aren't suited to their formation/style.

 

Not so sure about Jokanovic. He was more pragmatic with us than he was with Fulham where it was suicidal to try to play the way they did. And I know I'm in the minority but I think the squad was holding Ivic back rather than the other way round. I think he wanted us to play a different way but just wasn't given the players. And we sacked Javi after two improved performances following the dreadful start to the season.

Ivic was dealt a ****** hand, but he played it poorly. He was clearly too stubborn to back down on certain issues which made us worse than even a complete idiot has managed to make us.

 

Or he was prepared to stand up to the clowns that walk down the "corridors of power"*

Yeah, but he backed his position by picking less than the best sides available and stifling them.

Pearson was the one i wish we had kept. He would have got us back up and helped change the rotten culture over time.

Fulham are in talks to sign Nathaniel Chalobah from Watford.

Deal described as 50-50 at this stage

 

It’s already done I think. Just not been announced.

I imagine he's on good wages so financially the smart thing to do. Sad though. Hope we don't regret this.

 

Doubt it’s a deal we really wanted to do. Think the club and Xisco rate him highly. Just think it’s likely he wouldn’t sign a new deal.

 

Let's be honest, he was much better when he was 17 years old.

Handful of really good performances but isn't good enough for the PL. He may have been, but that injury has stalled him at this level.

 

If neither Hughes or Chalobah would sign new deals then you have to consider why that is.

 

I'd have kept him tbf, I think he'd have been decent backup, but I suppose the club see him day in day out and would have a better idea whether he's up to it or not...either that, or they are just being cheap and trying to get anything they can for an asset who can walk for free in a year

 

That fake illness cleared up and he's off.

And it was rumoured that he was already on £30k+ a week when we signed him from Chelsea so presume we went above that to attract him, given it was a bit of a coup to get him. More wages off the books.

 

Doesn't seem that way with Hughes as he could leave for £2m without his relegation reduction being activated apparently. Must be something going on behind the scenes, unpaid bonuses anyone?

Who knows, but I doubt many Palace players aside from Benteke and Wilf are on much more than £65/70k per week, and if Fulham will pay Chalobah more than us then good luck to them, but it seems unlikely given the circumstances.

 

Disappointing as he'd actually started to show signs at the end of last season that he was capable of stepping up a level again.

We're now relying on Tufan coming good or else we may still be a bit light on quality in CM.

 

As good as this is, I’d rather we put the wages towards something. The wage bill is already surely smaller than it was last season in the Championship.

 

He probably wants guaranteed game time

Don't know if serious or not, but those giving it an A+++ might want to have rethink. Lack of squad depth in certain positions leaves alot to be desired.

Also, massive reliance on Xisco to get new signings to gel. The entire midfield has been revamped, bar Cleverly. Would have been far happier if Chalobah stayed and we had a capable Right-back who the manager trusts.

Those are the most obvious reasons.

Not to mention only having 1 good Center-back.

It's been, don't get me wrong, I just think people like to exaggerate how good. What time does the window actually close? Hopefully Gino can surprise us
