Talk around this evening that we want a loan deal for Nathan Holland at West Ham. Although he’s currently out inured.
Ex West Ham Employee on Twitter I think the source for that. Could be loan or perm but a lot of clubs in for him apparently.
Along with Bournemouth, Brighton, Burnley and QPR. https://twitter.com/ExWHUemployee/status/1301230969228267520 By all accounts had a decent loan spell last year at Oxford but can't pretend I have seen him.
We seem to have a lot of players who can play on the left already. Geri, Pedro, Sema, Penaranda, Pereyra & Success. Doesn't seem to be a position where we need extra bodies. The right side is where we are short of options now that Pussetto has gone (presumably)
I watched all of his games at Oxford last season and can confirm he generally drifts in off the left.
I guess Pussetto, Pereyra and Geri are more likely to leave than not. Not sure Success is much of a winger these days and not sure Penaranda is much of a footballer these days. I guess they would see him as a cheap homegrown back up behind Pedro and Sema.
Could indicate Sema won’t be staying, but in any case that’s not a convincing list. Most are injured, returning, untried or likely to leave.
I really do think that with the cost cutting factor as well, we really have a manager now who will refuse to have anything to do with Penaranda and Success (seemingly) lack of application in their careers. And Pereyra to an extent but he’s almost certainly off regardless anyway. They could get away with it in the past as we always had the money to keep them in the background and keep patience that somehow they may come good. But with every passing week/month that they are picking up the wages they are on and doing zilch for the money, it’ll be more painful for the owner now. And we have a manager who won’t entertain it I doubt. It really feels like the next month is now or never for them.
Was it £20m for the two of them? Not all transfers work out, but that is some spectacularly bad business. I still feel that Success could do a job in the Championship provided he grows up and stays on his feet, but then again he's always looked like he might come good and never does. Penaranda has done nothing at a string of clubs. Might just be best to get both off the wage bill and cut losses. That or Vlad terrorises them into playing to their potential.
No, because they came from Granada and Udinese. Supposedly the Pozzos bought Success for £350k and Penaranda for £700k.
I can't say I remember a lot of Success on the pitch. For me, however, any clue to the type of clown we had on our books was at the Woking match in the cup. A player playing against a team 5 tiers below you should be the chance to show what you have, instead he was looking for fouls and throwing himself around until the ref booked him and then did nothing else for the remainder of the match. The man is a disgrace. Whatever people say about Gray, other than the lockdown party, he has played to the best of his ability albeit limited. Success was a much worse signing.
They certainly aren’t the ‘official’ fees and I doubt you can cook the books to that extent?! I’m sure the money sloshes around generally in a big pot anyway - but the fee’s ‘paid’ were much bigger and I’m sure given our unique relationship, the books will have been scrutinised for such financial anomalies. Transfermarkt has Penaranda down as costing £9.54m and Success costing £13.5m
Can't imagine he'd get much football in the Prem, but then again I can't imagine he'd get much here neither. Replacement for Eze at QPR?
I mean, those were the fees when the players came under Pozzo ownership - i.e. Success went to Granada for £350k and Penaranda went to Udinese for £700k. Beyond that point the players moving between clubs might as well be considered a Pozzo paper-shuffling exercise.
I recall him having a great impact against Burnley, and can also remember him elbowing someone in the face. Shame, there is a talented player in there somewhere, he was a winger with a few tricks, pace and strength. Nowadays he looks like Troys pie eating competition partner. If by some miracle he can find his motivation/drive/talent etc he had at Granada then he'd be very useful in the Championship. As it stands though I'd think he'd struggle to get in to most Sunday league teams.
I saw Sucsess' debut match in a pre season friendly, and he looked the dogs danglies, since then the has gone backwards, can't stay on his feet, can't last 90 minutes and generally now simply looks dog poo.
I may be wrong, but wasn’t the size of the fee we paid for either Success or Penaranda (or both) related to the work permit points system, which allocates extra points based on transfer fees/wages?
That is a consideration I know (it helped Richarlison get his WP), although it either wasn't enough for Penaranda, or we were planning on keeping him in Spain for the passport (which we then failed to follow up on lol)
