Really good game today, he was everywhere, being settled here now and under a coach who has given us some structure should help him
True, but nobody can really play their best game in such torrid conditions and it was like a torrid of rainfall second half. Saturday looks a lot better weather wise, so it should be a more flowing game.
Remember him being written off on here as sh1te after 2 sub appearances as a teenager. Good times. Sign him up!
I’m hearing that VI used your criticism at HT, pinned to the changing room door, to spur him on to an improved performance in the second half.
I remember describing him when he first joined as a mix of Cucho + Pedro, now certainly starting to see that show!
Three goals from 7 games is a great return and I think he's a player with a lot of promise. But he seems to be a one-trick pony. Cutting in and curling a shot into the far corner. Yes, he's executing this quite well, but I think teams will soon get wise to what he's going to do and will double up cutting off the inside to force him wide. He needs to mix it up and learn how to get to the by-line and cut back. If he can do that with quality, then we've got a real player as teams will not know if he's going to cut in or go wide. Right now, he just cuts in 90% of the time, although he's doing well with this move. It's a Bobby P favourite but that only lasted a little while before teams got wise to him.
He does cut inside an awful lot but he's not brainless with it. It's not always a jink inside and a shot, he does recognise when that isn't on and look to spread the play. Also created a very presentable shooting opportunity to Ince yesterday who leaned back and blazed it over the bar. He doesn't seem to really trust/rate Morris, quite often ignores him on overlaps. Hopefully he'll use Lewis more as just the threat of him coming inside and shooting pins the defenders, allowing the full back to get outside him. Also worth remembering that some players (e.g. Arjen Robben) made a whole career out of cutting inside. Knowing it's coming doesn't always mean you can stop it! Obviously he's not as good as Robben but neither are the defenders he's up against. I think the key is getting him the ball quickly. He showed against Coventry that he didn't even have to cut in, just used the defender's position to curl the ball into the far corner with the keeper unsighted.
It's the most useful "trick" in the modern game. It's vital for teams to have players capable of executing such a move well. Our goal from Ince also came from curling a shot into the far corner. SLB mentions Robben in the post above, but pretty much all top level wide forwards can and do this "trick" regularly - Salah, Mahrez, Mbappe, Vinicius etc. It's never always possible to stop.
He's adjusted to the Championship brilliantly I believe. Showing alot more strength and it's crumbling to the floor at any chance. I think he's missed when he's off the pitch.
Pleased with his goal, a possible option on the right going forward? He's been one of our better players this season, even if it's been hard to fit both him and Sema on the same side!
Only trouble is when he comes on does seem to be easily dealt with now compared to earlier in the season .
He would make a great highlights video though. 1/Roving down the left, cutting in on his right, and firing into the far right corner. 2/Roving down the left, cutting in on his right, and firing into the far right corner.3/Roving down the left, cutting in on his right, and firing into the far right corner.4/Roving down the left, cutting in on his right, and firing into the far right corner.5/Roving down the left, cutting in on his right, and firing into the far right corner. End.
If they get €10m for Martins then Gino is a genius - without question. The fellers not worth anything near that. I would be extremely disappointed if we got him on a free, let along paying a fee for him.
Think he’d be alright with an arm around him and in his home country. Doesn’t strike me as the type that enjoys living abroad whatsoever.
Looks miserable in the second half of the season but IIRC had a close family bereavement. So maybe heading home for a bit is a good thing all round.
Think he was probably pissed off his with his game time, all things considered he might have been in our best finisher, scored 5 in the first three months maybe? Then suddenly dropped and rarely started again, he didn’t always work hard so I can see why he got dropped but imagine having to watch Rajovic or Bayo in front of you.
