I think that has more to do with his opponents being, variously, WWE stars, NFL players, movie actors, pop stars, etc who have never watched a "soccer" game before. And the fact that nearly all of them throw at least one result away by saying that their team will win 7-0 and that their local rivals will lose 0-17 at home to Hull..... Football 365 ran analysis on him and you would do pretty much the same was he does by tossing a coin each week.
Liverpool are doing well for once, without them I'm sure his averages would be nowhere ... I don't think he predicted any losses for them last season (although they did 10 times) ... ditto for his hated West Ham who luckily for him are genuinely shite this year.
Have you seen his opponents? He's a football pundit, and they are celebrities that rarely have any idea about football. Hopefully this will give some scale to his 'victories'. At my previous work, we have a prediction league for staff. Of the 20 who play, only 10 watch football regularly enough to know the results of the weekend etc. The other 9 guess/ go for the big names. As a benchmark, Lawrence's scores are added each week. 'Lawro' is 13th in the table. He is behind 8 people who watch football regularly, and 5 who do not and essentially pick a score at random. That is absolutely abysmal. He is one of those pundits who snuck in the back door through their Liverpool dominated media connections, but has little clue outside two or three clubs. On average, he gets less than one score correct per week (although this does discount Monday games).
Fair enough! That was the first crumb of comfort I've thrown to him in many a year (probably ever) - but it would seem even that was unfounded. Even as I wrote it I had an uneasy feeling...
"Watford v Stoke (12:00 GMT)I have probably been guilty of under-estimating Watford in the past, but I have been very impressed by some of their attacking play and, in Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo, they have got a goal threat too." What a ***** this bloke is. Money for nothing.
Lol... the go to phrase when a pundit has no idea about our team is always : "but with Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo up top, they can score goals".
Funny thing, they edited the part about Deeney and Ighalo out of the BBC preview once someone realized that Lawro hadn't bothered checking if Ighalo had actually scored this season.
It's only taken Lawro 50 games to work out Watford are better than the 2006 version. He's sharp as a tack as it will take the other Liverpool pundits another 50 games to work that one out. After last week's goal we now have officially three players, Deeney, Ighalo and Pereyra.
That is so true, that's all any pundit from any media outlet eve says about us, "they've got Deeney and Igahlo up front, they are so important for them...etc etc etc" They don't even realise that Igahlo hasn't scored for us since about 1987, and Deeney isn't exactly prolific either. Most of them probably don't even realise that Pererya plays for us.
When Lawro predicts us to win, we lose. When Lawro predicts us to lose, we win. God knows what that means when he predicts us to draw; match abandoned due to volcanic activity, I can only imagine.
Is Lawro just on repeat? "With Watford, people know Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo are a threat and there is the danger they might work out how to stop them! "Etienne Capoue has weighed in with a few goals for the Hornets this season but I think they need more goals from elsewhere" (Predicts us to lose 2-0...yes that its 2-1 win then!)
I think we're being harsh. He brings an insight the normal people can't. For instance he has boldly and radically stated about Leicester "I think their poor form this season is down to their players."
It's tantamount to legslised extortion that people like him , Shearer , Linekar etc get paid the sums they do from public funds. And don't tell me the licence fee is optional ... having a TV is basic human right , especially if you re a lazy cxnt like me .
The man really is some sort of c***. Once again has us down to lose this weekend, which would be his 12th predicted loss of the season for us.
Actually he has predicted correctly in 10 of our 16 games so far.. 1 win, 2 draws and all seven defeats. This sounds like a pretty good record until you come to think that he correctly picked out the defeats because he also predicted we would lose 12 games overall.
Got some bold looking predictions: Palace to hold Chelsea Leicester to win at Stoke Bournemouth to beat Southampton by 2 clear goals. Had we'd been at home the guy would have gone 2-1 to us...
Sh!t, I was gonna captain Costa in my dream team but if Lawro says that then I'd better completely change my course of action. Phew, thanks Mark.
Ha! we are that rubbish everyones agreeing with Lawro now! Actually i was bit surprised he looked so glum after our defeat to Spurs.. shaking his head dejectedly at our performance. I thought he'd be all made up now we're as poor as he keeps predicting. There's no pleasing some people.
"That's just what Jesus said sir". Lawrenson is to cheery what Deng Xiao Peng was to flower arranging!
For once the camp old twhat might be right given all dem injerees & everyfink. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Burton had lost 5 of their last 6 games in a lower division and it showed. So many drama queens on here.
Talking of bad predictions. Paul Merson had a mare.. http://www.independent.ie/sport/lef...-prediction-goes-horribly-wrong-35349344.html
