But hats off to Slovenia's Cesar. Yellow card against England, yellow and straight red against Scotland. What a man!
On his 100th cap too. Daft thing is Scotland would probably swap some really dull football and getting to the tournaments for their usual exciting games but ultimate failure.
After seeing the line-up for the England game today I was quietly looking forward to some real improvement. Sadly the performance can be summed up quite simply: Different dogs same 5h!t. Stop receiving the ball and turning back to face your own defenders so so so often. Possession football at its most tedious and the scourge of modern football for me. Where have all the players gone who can actually go past a player? Pass pass pass turn back and pass pass pass turn back and pass pass mis-control and lose ball. Repeat for opposition. Dull. On the other hand, the 60mins or so I saw of the England u-17 World Cup match vrs Chile this morning - 4-0 to England - was pretty impressive. Slick forward passing and movement with a real intent on attacking. Very promising. Until they get any where near a first team squad where flair will be drummed out of them in the name of possession possession possession.
Ah! The famous Man Utd influence at work and also why you should never have an ex defender as manager ... unless you are Burnley of course.
I'm generalising ... and I'm talking National teams (excuse the Burnley joke), Taylor was not that successful for England. Silva and Portuguese football deserve their own bracket.
Going to the England game on Friday (free tickets..) At this rate I will be seeing the Under 21s! Wonder if half the German squad have pulled out?
