Can he play the lone striker role? Competition for Deeney is certainly needed.

We should deploy him alongside Deeney, Ighalo, Vydra & Forestieri in a 325 and give it a proper go.

This got me thinking so just did some stat work (i'm in one of those moods). 15 PL teams used 1 up top in the last round of matches.

The strikers up top were:

Graham: 183cm
Gomis: 184cm

Average height: 184.26cm (6.04ft)

Marginal difference but interesting to see Deeney is one of the smallest. Again, such a small difference that I don't think it matters.

 

I think the problem is Deeneys lack of movement especially laterally, rather than his height.

Pelle had some decent movement, hopefully Troy was watching. He was coming deep to get on the ball, drifting wide and making runs down the sides of Prodl and Cathcart. Nearly scored through one of those runs but Gomes made a good save.

 

No he's definitely moving laterally. He's always been inclined to tubbyness.

 

If this f****** formation ultimately sees the end of Deeney cos he isn't suited to it (along with almost everyone else), I'm going to become one of the people who bays for the managers blood and suggests he's worse than your average child sex offender every time we don't win!

 

Don't see this happening not least because it could take months to get him a work permit.

 

Apparently in the changing rooms their players have been heard to say this guy is even better than FF.

 

I'm sure there is some way we can dodge this using our other clubs. Loan him to Granada for experience until he has a Spanish passport.
