Luther Blissett - Jubilee Honours List

In time I think it would be fitting to rename the Rookery as the Luther Blissett stand.

 

Not being obtuse but is that actually confirmed? I saw French mentioned the previous offer of that role in passing once in his article but not again. And no official announcement from the club yet.

He may well be acting the same way as GT did with The Helmet. Not particularly liking the owners but feeling that at least he can better see what goes on and influence things from inside the castle rather than outside.....

 

Agreed. But Bassini was a clown and didn't have an infrastructure designed to protect him. This lot are a bit smarter than that and no doubt they'll be very careful about what Luther can actually see, what conversations he's brought into.

 

I don't think LB is a fool. The fact he's been involved in several club events and at the training ground, has taken his time to assess and make his decision, suggests to me he's seen enough to feel comfortable he can endorse where we are as a club now, as well as continuing to push that we do things in the right way.

I also trust his allegiance is to the club and the community, rather than the ownership, and as a result he'll be more likely to call things out when they're not right.

 

Good point, I read through the WO article this morning and made an assumption. Tried to read again now but it wants me to subscribe and that AIN'T HAPPENING

Agree on the allegiance point. But also imagine it would be fairly easy to keep him away from any of our more contentious business practices/decision making. He's also now a paid employee of the club (according to Andrew French), which adds another element.

That's fair, but most of the things that people are unhappy about are pretty much in public domain. Finances, dealings with Bayat, managerial sackings, player power etc

 

The outcomes are in the public domain, but not often why and how they happened.

Bayat a good case in point, we can see that we've funnelled a shedload of business through him but have no idea how we alighted on him as the agent of choice, why his company was set up by someone who sat on the board of our parent company, why we paid a higher percentage in agents' fees than other clubs over several years, why he's the only agent that regularly sits next to Pozzo at home games, why we paid him on an intra-Pozzo club transfer, why we are the only English club to use him since 2018.

If there's something bent about our peculiar relationship with him, Luther will be kept well away from that. Will be the same for anything else they don't want scrutiny on.

 

I agree we don't know the 'why', but the fact we know the 'what' is surely enough grounds for LB to ask those questions and raise those concerns, if he feels they need raising?

 

So official title is 'Club Ambassador'. Not sure how that differs from Life President, and to be honest sounds equally as vague...

 

When I got my first post university job in the mid 1980s with British Rail, I was sent to Preston for management training. Second day there the Area Manager told me he was so pleased to have me as part of the team he was giving me the honour of becoming the “Area Ambassador” -To travel with him throughout the full expanse of his influence from Blackpool to Skipton. I was well chuffed.

Turned out I was his chauffeur. Driving him in a huge British Leyland wedge of a car throughout East Lancashire.

I know Luther likes his cars, but hope is Ambassador role is more prestigious than that. On reflection it could be worse, he could have been made the Club “Maestro” or worse still given the keys to the Club “Marina”
