Young, Homegrown, Something to prove, Frozen out at United - surely a bid to loan until the end of the season is worth a punt? Better than Holebas by a mile and anything to get that ungrateful, moaner out of the line-up....
Agree with the first part. Dont with the second. Holebas always puts in the effort. May make some mistakes but definitely not top of my list of booboys
Perhaps ungrateful wasn't the best choice of words, I agree. And I certainly wouldn't boo him...but he just seems to carry a malaise about being at Watford. His actions when leaving the pitch on Saturday were nothing short of petulant and showed a 'me first, club second' mentality. Collects a lot of bookings too and I get a sense he is a divisive character in the camp. I'm not saying get rid, but he has zero competition for his place and Shaw is the type of signing we should be looking at...
Very rarely do you take on board a players whole wage when taking them on loan. Vastly overrated? So 2 greats seasons at Southampton and an England International count for nothing these days? You may not agree with my suggestion, fair enough. But we are a Premier League club now, with sound finances. These are the types of players we should be looking at, rather than 29-31 year olds who are failing in Serie A for example.
Yes, they count for nothing, especially the England international part. He was never the player he was hyped to be. Now, he's regressed and quite frankly, Holebas is a better player. I don't get blinded by 'MAN UTD PLAYER', like you obviously do.
It's true, he regularly gets really cross at other people when he's made no attempt to block a cross or mark his man.
At what point have I said anything about we 'must go for him, he play's for Manchester United! ? I've pointed to his form at Southampton, not United. By the same token, Cleverley played for England and Manchester United - does that mean he was was not worth being a target? You don't agree, thats your right. I respect that. But bring a balanced argument rather than pointing out things I 'obviously' think that I've never actually mentioned.
He's a centre forward at heart I reckon, but is too **** to actually play there so has always been lumped in defence. Hence his frustration at the world. I like him.
I can't help but think his actions leaving the pitch were representive of the change being made, not the players attitude. We had 2 attacking players in ighalo and Sinclair on the bench and we were playing 5 at the back. If we were serious about winning the game Mazzari should have taken off a CB and put either of these players on, but instead decided to make a straight swap substitution which was going to have no impact on the game at all. The sub was made to run down the clock for a draw, not to help us win the game. If holebas was being subbed off and Sinclair or ighalo were waiting on the side to come on I'm sure he would've sprinted off. Luke shaw is a good player and competition for the left back spot is definitely needed, however I can't see it being a realistic option
Pretty sure stats wise Holebas is doing pretty well for a left back, in terms of shots at goal, crosses , yellow cards.i like him yes he does have moments of shouting at other players but atleast that shows he cares, Deeney does the same but he doesn't get criticised.
I'll bring whatever I like. You are clearly blinded by the name factor, hence you ignoring how poor he is now and throwing 'England international' into the mix. A stupid suggestion for a player we are never going to sign in which the topic has only been saved by a discussion about Holebas who is a superior player.
Yeah for his form, not for him shouting at other players which by the way is not a bad thing. If you have players who don't argue when a goal is conceded that is when you should worry, when nothing is said is when it shows the players dont care.
At least half a dozen goals conceded this season have come from mistakes by Holebas. Let's be honest here, he's garbage and needs replacing
TBF you could say the same about all our regular defenders with the possible exception of Prodl, and even he's made a few costly mistakes And while we're being honest, we're never in a million year going to sign Shaw. Either perm or on loan. Silly suggestion
What absolute nonsense. Holebas is incredibly average, even in our poor team. Luke Shaw is naive and sometimes lacks focus, but his weaknesses are shared by Holebas and his strengths absolutely exceed the Greek. You accuse him of seeing a 'Man Utd player' and being blinded, but I think that is exactly what you are doing. He would be a phenomena signing. Which is exactly why we won't get him, and he will move to a much bigger club.
Yes that's why if you read what i put says he is doing well as in getting a lot of yellow cards. Just a joke but some people clearly are a bit too serious
Agree silly, he'll be dead in a thousand years let alone a million! Shaw is a much better player than Holebas
Simple fact yes he is better than holebas but there is no chance in hell watford would give him 100k a week let alone pay around 20 million for him
Which is why my original post clearly says on loan... I don't believe United would be looking to sell him but a half-season loan with guaranteed first team football? I'd say we have as much chance as anyone on that basis.
Don't see the point of this. We should be looking for young, home grown players, not some ageing Man Utd tart. No thanks.
If we're going to have pointless suggestion threads about never-going-to-happen players, why not go the full Jonathan Hogg & have one about a loan move for Lionel Messi? He makes fewer mistakes than Deeney, would be a good signing IMO
