I presume the longball stuff now is a lot less attractive purley because we actually have some top quality players under GT unlike today?
or because in the past few games it hasn't been working but we're so one-dimensional at the moment we won't change it.
GTs version of 'longball' was hugely different to that of Wimbledon or Cambridge and completely unrecognisable from todays version. We would play long passes out of defence that would have a specific target player, not an aimless hoof up the field. So often on TV you would see Glenn Hoddle play the same pass as Ian Bolton, but Hoddles would be a 'magnificent pass from a man with huge vision' and Boltons would be 'a Neanderthal punt up the field'. Blame Terry Venables, he never liked getting stuffed by us with every team he ever managed and he always had the medias ear.
exactly. ive been saying this for years. when Bolton put the ball wide for Cally to skip passed the defenders and cross the ball to Luther or Ross, the boss, to score it was boring fottball. when hodle did it it was a play maker working ! DUH
