Don’t disagree with you first paragraph and nothing against Ken, but we already have him for 2 more seasons after this. And if we don’t got up we are told there may be a fire sale of our saleable assets. People wouldn’t be smashing down the door to take him with a year left on his contract so why not re-evaluate in the summer of 2022? Why give such an average player a 5 year deal when we don’t even know how this year will play out?
We only have 2 'Ken Sema in a top league' seasons to judge him on. 1 good, 1 not good. The one good was when he was afforded consecutive starts. The one not good was where he was limited to cameo appearances and the odd start, in his first season out of Sweden. If he were to have a decent-to-good season in the PL next year, he'd have 1 year on his deal, and we'd be in a tricky situation. That may not happen, but with him unlikely to be on huge wages, I think it's probably a small risk worth taking.
Because he's coming up 28 and has proven himself nothing more than a decent Championship player. We seem to have an obsession with offering out 5 year deals to anyone and everyone that wants an extension. By the end of his deal he's going to be almost 33. Wingers are not in their prime at 32/33. It's yet another ridiculously long contract that will take him into, most likely, well past his peak.
Maybe he can just coast it and treat it as a warm-up/glorified training session? Maybe as it's a friendly they'll also make lots of early subs?
Well since Xisco has come in and started the 4-3-3 he's got 5 goals in 10 and is showing amazing consistency.Tbh we might still be in the Championship next season, if we are he's showing his worth. Premiership is different he had Gerri owning that position last time out and had come from a very inferior league. As for his age it doesn't really bother me, he's an athlete and a total professional and could be more than capable into his early 30's and considering he has the ability to play multiple positions makes him even a better option for the squad.
So... we needed to give him a huge, 5 year deal because? No matter what you think of him as a player it's a ridiculously, unnecessarily long deal at his age.
Wasn't aware that Ken had a bit of a stammer and some tics. Fair play to him for not hiding away, takes a lot of courage, and can inspire others. Seems like a top fella https://twitter.com/WatfordFC/status/1380582532350021632?s=19
He's badly run out of steam this season. He's making bad decisions and doesn't look able to beat his man anymore. No harm in starting him on the bench vs the scummers and playing Gray, Success or Hungbo.
Reminds me a little of Ikechi Anya in our promotion season. Versatile player who is usually OK in a number of positions but never very good in any of them. Seems to have a great character and workrate/commitment. Also has the odd great game in him too. Should be a good back-up option next season but would like to hope we can strengthen in his position.
Sema at full fitness is a very good player to have. Even when he's clearly exhausted he still puts in a massive defensive shift if nothing else even on an off day. Fantastic attitude and player to have around whether starting or impact. I get the comparison to Anya but he's of a much higher quality than him as well.
I get what people say on Ken but we need players like him. Adaptable and seems very happy to be here. No doubt he will be more of a squad player next season. Yes we need an upgrade on the left maybe Pedro or Cucho will push wider if we hopefully get in a goalscoring striker.
Yeah! I think we should keep him whether we go up or not as he would be a decent squad player in the PL and he is more than good enough for The championship, because he is a versatile utility player who can put in a decent shift in most positions.
I may be feeling a lot more positive now but Sema is still poo and nowhere near good enough to even be a squad option in the Premier League. He's like a crap Amrabat.
I think more than anything he's a good personality, which is important, we all know how damaging even just one bad apple can be. Will be lucky to be 2nd choice LW/LWB next season, but if need be could also step into the midfield
I think he is worth a squad place in the PL as he is so versatile and can slot into most positions as a backup.
Naturally I was terrified that him not leaving it to Sarr was gonna cost us, but it was irrelevant in the end! Thought he's played well last two games, so much hard work he's got through!
Some Swedish artist has released a song about Sema. https://open.spotify.com/track/0po9IkVCREGSUswNsaV0DR?si=eb790b8fccf640ae Not sure there is much future in "Ken Sema, No Problema" as a chant...
