Not sure if he's starting for Norwich right now,He was getting in England Squad. Gomes is looking frail. I'd say he's about the best English keeper we could bring in.
Good suggestion, I think he'd work well for us. Yes he does start for Norwich. He didn't play mid week in the cup but he does in the league. I think we would struggle to get him here as a back up though. So if we were to sign him I imagine we would be willing to drop Gomes.
He was terrible during Norwich's relegation last season. A liability who ended up being dropped for his backup.
I just googled him to see how old he is (29 btw) and read that bournemouth have bid £10m for him, and that chelsea have said they can have him for £12m. We should be gazumping them. He's well ace
£12 million is rather steep but then again when Jake Livermore is going for £10 is it really? 29 is young for a keeper, we'll get 4/5 years out of him and he was arguably one of the best in the league when at Stoke. I can't imagine his wages are stupidly high at Chelsea and he must be bored of not playing by now.
If true we should be all over that deal. I seriously think best case for Gomes is another year tops. And I'd be happy to bench him now if we could get someone like Begovic.
The source was the mirror/star/mail and evening standard. One of the headlines is "Chelsea encourage second bid for outcast: Bournemouth's opening offer knocked back" Quite frustrating if we dont even try for deals like this. If he signed for us he wouldnt even need to move mansions.
My dear god. I appreciate the whole function of suggestions but come on, Ruddy? Let's not forget that Norwich's defence did horrifically last season and he was partly to blame, so much so that they took him out of goal to switch things up. They're doing poor this season as well and Ruddy isn't actually even playing regularly in the Championship because he's being alternated with McGovern. For all we know he could do a Darren Randolph or Lee Grant (why didn't we go in for him considering he wasn't that bad in the Championship, supports us and wants to play for us), but there's evidence to say he won't do well
My thinking was he's English and it gives us that 1 more foreign squad place. He was in the England set up so can't be all bad. Begovic is certainly a better choice and we should be bidding if available. Would Randolph leave wet spam? And Grant has come from sitting on the bench in championship to #1 in prem as he's found a club and manager who believes in him.
I'm saying Ruddy could do what both of them did. Randolph and Grant were on both their respective benches before becoming first choice at their respective clubs. I'm not saying we get them now, I'm saying we should've gone in for them when we had the chance to. Instead we pished about with Arlauskis when Randolph was free and stuck by Pantillimon (who I actually think is more than good enough) when we could've got Grant. I agree with your line of thinking and going for a player like Button from Fulham, Maxwell from PNE, Danny Ward from Liverpool (on loan at Hudders) or Davies from Barnsley. All are homegrown, all in good form, at least two would be relatively cheap and I would suspect that at least 3 of them wouldn't mind being second fiddle with the basic guarantee that they'll be first choice in a season/2 because of Gomes getting older. But of course this is a moot point because we don't care that we could put a homegrown keeper in one of the goalkeeper positions.
I sort of follow Norwich as a second team. My son, seems to like them despite having a Watford season ticket. Anyway, Ruddy was dropped earlier this season, but has got his league place back now. He's not a bad keeper, but I can't see him leaving Carrow Road, as he's a bit of cult hero there. Don't know if he's much of an improvement on Pantilimon to be honest.
I'm English. Maybe the club could sign me as our new goalkeeper as I wouldn't take up a place in the squad.
