Just say you can do it and find out how to afterwards

Literally everyone in the workplace fakes it until they make it, many are still faking right now

Don't have sex or a wxnk for at least a week before the interview so that you re really fired up for the big day .

However if you have problems with self restraint it may be advisable to have a little wxnk in the toilets whilst waiting because wxnking whilst actually in the interview is a big NO NO!

Sorry to keep asking questions in this thread... Has anyone ever done a sales job with daily KPI's before? Is it as bad as it sounds?

  5. hornmeister

    hornmeister Tired

I've run an inbound call centre with KPIs and reported on them.

How good or bad the job is will be down to the actual KPIs. If it's a cold calling Sales job then yes it'll probably be bad.

Been told there will be some cold calling, but not exclusively. The KPI's are to have a certain amount of 'meaningful' conversations a day and would be selling to mainly sports clubs.

Any time you are told "some cold calling, but not exclusively" it actually means "99.9% cold calling".

Unless you're absolutely desperate for a job, don't get into cold calling. It's an awful job.

Yeah I get that feeling, and its certainly not really something I want to do. I have a bit of a dilemma because the sales manager is a friend of a friend and seems a top guy and their clients include Barcelona, PSG, Bayern, Leicester and a range of other impressive sports clubs. He was quite open and said that people don't stay very long, they do a year or two and then go on to work for a sports club or agency because they gained the contacts whilst working at this company, so I don't know if its worth going and doing the bit of a rubbish job if its going to lead into a good one.

If it's the industry that you are looking to get into even though the job on the face of it is unsuitable for you, I don't think it would hurt to do it for the reasons you've stated. In a year's time you might have built up some contacts and find something better but even if that's not the case a year working for the right company would look better on your CV than a year stacking shelves at Tescos.

Depends on whether or not you believe it to be true.

If it's basically a dead cert you can be where you want to be after a year, then go for it.

Just make sure it's not an empty promise, because the vast majority of sales companies are not straight with new hires. The last thing you want to do is invest a year and find you've got nowhere.

The most important lesson to learn is that no employer really gives a crap about you. They'll cheerfully kick you to the curb if it suits them, so make sure your employment situation works for you and your future. The days of employee loyalty being rewarded are long dead.

So got my formal offer through for my masters...£500 deposit

But there may be a job opening within the SU of my old Uni that they hinted at me telling me to apply for when I worked on their Summer Ball. Do I do my masters or go for this job once the advert goes live?

Can you defer enrollment for a year? Should the job offer come along, you'd not have to give up the place on your program, while having the opportunity to work for a year and earn money/experience.

Not a bad shout for Prime Minister; Hodgson has proven he's got a great plan for getting us out of Europe quickly.

    I'll go for:

England Manager - Sherlock. English Managers are rubbish
Prime Minister - meridensi a great step up from the last run of 3
Labour Leader - Clive, so he shuts up on here.

Ok more advice needed... What should I expect from a second round interview? Got one at a 'big four' company (but for a marketing job). The first interview was pretty much 100% competency questions and the only thing they said about the second one was that it'd be with their manager. Will it be more competency based stuff?

  20. Jumbolina

    Jumbolina First Team

In my experience yes. They are just getting someone more senior to take a second look at you. The first round interviews are with more junior bods (or HR) so they can filter it down to reduce using the senior bods time on multiple interviews. It will be fairly similar in structure.

Oh I was wrong then - Presentation is tough compared to an interview. They'll ask you lots of follow up questions as well. Good luck!

Look at it positively, if it goes particularly well then not only will you secure a job but will have thrown your name in the ring for fast-track programmes in future.

    Well done.
Check out the dress code first not many places require suits these days. Normally shirt tie & smart trousers is best. As long as you have one dark grey or black suit for weddings & funerals.

  27. Jumbolina

If you are getting suits - worth getting a made to measure one if you can (they do special offers sometimes as well). Look way better and last longer in my experience. You also get a couple of pairs of trousers with one jacket.

Charles Tywhitt are great for customising shirts, trousers, jackets etc. They are good value too.

They have good deals too - I remember at Easter they had 33% of orders over a certain value.

Well.... My 5 years at my current company comes to an end tomorrow, and i'll be unemployed. I think this thread may come in very handy.

Anyone got any tips on how to pass the time? In an 11 year career, I've been unemployed for a grand total of 3 days. :doom:

It's good for a few weeks, but gets very boring, very quickly. My advice is try and stay in some kind of routine, as soon as the routine goes its a slippery slope.

Agree. Get up at 8am or 9am each day and don't stay up till the early hours just because you can. Spend 3 hours job hunting. Learn a new skill (eg excel VBA or become an expert in a specific area of your industry). Do some exercise most days. Improve a non-work skill.

    Well done!

But just how did you manage it? I thought these companies (assuming it's the big four firm you mentioned earlier) were incredibly competitive to get in, and you needed at least some kind of experience (I was under the impression you were a recent graduate, apologies if I've got this wrong). Or have you already worked in this industry before, even if it's as an intern/on a work placement?
