Suarez was around €1 million I believe so doesn't really fit with the names above! Especially since we sold him many times that
10 years ago Charlton, Derby, Yeovil, Doncaster and ourselves were at a similar level, so could be worse! Agree though that Brighton and Brentford are infinitely better run, and seem to have nailed their respective methods.
Brighton definitely is a better move for JP in respect to his own development and opportunities in their first team. He'd undoubtedly get a higher salary at somewhere like Newcastle but fewer opportunities which is not what he wants at this stage in his career.
Success is now a regular starter for Udinese. Are Davis and/or Assombalonga really an upgrade on him. Even Sarr is just a pacier Success.
I’m unsure of your point, Davis and Assombalonga being crap doesn’t mean Success and Peneranda aren’t also crap.
Success starting regularly and having the most assists (5th most in the league) for a mid table Serie A side suggests to me he's another example of a player we mismanaged. He was a raw player with some good attributes, and we played declining players, with equally poor outputs. I think Success could have improved if given a bit of faith and a run in the team, which he seems to have now been given with Udinese. Which isn't to say he didn't play his part with his off field antics...
Penaranda turned out crap, but Success for 350k wasn't that bad of a buy, even just based on his patchy time with us.
Good luck to Pedro he is a great lad! I hope we get a good fee for him and a good sell on clause too I only live about 25 miles from Brighton so after the way WFC is being run at present I might seriously consider following Pedro and shift my allegiance to Brighton too However I very much doubt I could do that cause the 'Orns are in my blood....
I'm glad he's going to Brighton. Rather them over Newcastle who would never play him. He has the ability to be very, very good but with us he is never going to reach his protential due to ten more shirkers who cannot be bothered around him. I wish him all the best, and I do hope the money we get for the sale is used to either reduce our debt or some of it is used to get a few competant repalcements for the dead wood in this squad.
I'm pleased for Pedro, he will be able to flourish at a progressive club who play good football. I felt bad at times for him playing with this group of wasters. Also, as much as I dislike the Pozzo's, they scouted Joao and sold him on for a huge fee a few years down the line. This is the type of transfer activity we were told to expect from their model when they took over. You can argue only Richarlison, Dennis and Pedro have followed suit in that regard.
Cucho perhaps? Asprilla could follow, although with Prem football being a pipe dream now, and with us in 9 figures worth of debt, getting any significant money for him is unlikely no matter how good he is. Not sure I'd include Dennis (or indeed Lukebakio, who did very little for us but at least fetched us a big fee) as an example of good scouting as he was a Bayat client, that's a source which is...questionable to say the least
Not sure that's correct ? He signed a 5 year deal at Udi, went on loan to Granada, then extended that loan I thought. Therefore believe we paid £12.5m to Udinese rather than a 3rd party (ie one Pozzo pocket to another) but I might be wrong ....?
The club website and all news reports have us signing him from Granada and it happened after the Pozzos sold: https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/men/players/isaac-success Whether there was some sort of jiggery pokery before the sale of Granada with the asking price being altered to take account of Success' imminent move to us, who knows.
I hope we get to give him the send off he deserves. I doubt he will be involved tomorrow, but I hope that against Stoke he can at least come off the bench for the final 5 mins so the fans can sing his name. We won’t see a player of his calibre at our club for a long long long time.
Thinking about this more, probably likely that Ayari might be their Caicedo replacement. Might stand a chance with Buonanotte potentially though, interestingly his season in Argentina last year profiles very similarly with JP for us this season
Anyone with a couple of brain-cells to rub together. The Pozzos sold Granada on 16 June. The transfer of Success was announced at literally the earliest possible opportunity - the first day of the upcoming transfer window, July 1st... Success's move was therefore obviously part of the discussions on the deal, the Pozzos may have even requested him being transferred as a pre-condition of the sale, and/or a way to facilitate further jiggery pokery. But regardless,- would it have made more financial sense for the Pozzos to have sold Granada for £5mil more and then have Success be transferred for £5mil more, then that's what would have been done. Had it have made more financial sense for the Pozzos to have sold Granada for £5mil less and then have Success be transferred for £5mil less, then that's what would have been done. Either way, the Success fee will be about as meaningless as the Kamara one.
