If Newcastle come back in for him, I think we should only sell for £50m, and most of it upfront. He is improving all the time

    Is basically our unofficial captain.

Unlike Sarr he's able to shrug off his poor bits of play to get stronger as the game goes on. Talent is there for both, but they are miles apart mentally

We are unlikely to be promoted if he leaves in January , which I don’t think he will . We’ve always got a chance with him In the side, showing his worth more and more now .

Surely if we are to sell him in Jan we have to whack up the price

I believe that he wants to develop his all-round game with us and that his big move will come
    in due course .

Selling in January would be lunacy and despite the car crash of a club we can be sometimes I really cannot see that happening. Same goes for Sarr as well

See Sarr more likely to go tbh.

I think JP will stay for next season if we get promoted, at least until the January window. He will be guaranteed starting every game with us when he's fit & that'll give him a real platform to ensure a move to a big club. If we don't go up this season however....

At least with Sarr we may have signed a viable replacement, JP is nigh on irreplaceable

Yeah, Sarr can piss off in January, but selling Pedro before the end of the season would be beyond idiotic.

    Bye then, Joao!

Injury prone, inconsistent and 18 months on his deal. Makes sense for the right a amount, yeah. If we get someone in who gives regular 7/10 performances, as opposed to the occasional 8/10 we’ll be laughing.

Ronaldo still scores goals but neither Utd or Portugal want him in their team. Sometimes it’s not about the surface level stats, but what you’re contributing (or not) game in game out, and what that does to both your attack and defence. If Sarr has a quiet game the whole team suffer, that isn’t excused if he pops up a month later with a goal and a good performance.

Of course there is no point selling him for the sake of it, but with 18 months on his deal then for decent money we should.

We have Martins now so we are well-stocked out wide even if Sarr goes

Yep. His value is plummeting all the time and if we don't go up this season we won't be getting anywhere near what we could have in January come the summer. We also have a talented, young Brazilian winger coming in in the same month.

I think relying on this young kid from Brazil to replace Sarr is being a little bit hopeful. Sarr is proven, Martins will hopefully be great but nothing is certain. Asprilla looks like he will be excellent but has contributed no assists or goals so far I believe. I get the money part but surely promotion is worth more than £15-20m we might get for Sarr. I would prefer it if we could just get him to sign a one year extension with the promise he can leave in the summer. I think people underplay the difference Sarr makes. He is quite often double marked which gives more space to the likes of Pedro. Lose Sarr and teams focus will be heavily on Pedro

It would make absolutely no sense for Sarr to sign a one year extension, why would he want to make himself more expensive to prospective clubs? We don’t have enough money to pay him enough for him to even consider shooting himself in the foot, which is effectively what he’d be doing.

£50m? Pah! It might sound like a decent fee but in only a year or two he’s bossing it and being talked about as irreplaceable to Newcastle, on a hugely improved contract, with a massive transfer/release fee on his head that only PSG or Real Madrid would pay. Meanwhile some overrated defender from Norwich or Bournemouth gets sold to Chelsea for £49m and flops.

    Not for sale.

I said that's what I would like to happen and I thought there were contract negotiations taking place but no idea anymore than that. My bigger point was selling him in Jan and relying on a kid from Brazil. Either way, I would be very surprised to see Sarr go in January unless it's a very silly amount

This season Ronaldo is scoring only 1 goal from open play per 526 minutes for Man Utd, while as a CF. Sarr has 1 goal per 243 minutes as a winger.

Plus CR7's all-round game has been on a whole other level of rancid this season; guy can barely trap a ball.

I don't know how you can compare the two at all!

That's false - even when Sarr is quiet, we almost always get better results with him on the pitch and his mere presence creates more space for others.

Perfect example against Huddersfield. I forgot Sarr was playing at times, and we won comfortably with a decent performance.

This is such a tired cliched old trope that just isn’t true at all, I would’ve expected better insight from you of all people.

Asprilla has produced 2 assists so far, and would have plenty more if we had someone competent in front of him

My bad, didn't realise he had two assists. Still feel more was expected though

  26. Hogg-DEENEY!!!

Well assists are not the best metric as Cathcart (I think it was him anyway!) got an assist for Sarr's worldy at West Brom, yet you don't get anything for putting an absolute defence-splitting pass if the striker misses a sitter like what Asprilla has done on a number of occasions now. I'm really not sure what I was expecting from Asprilla to be fair, I think he's playing more football than anticipated such is our injury crisis, but he's been fine for a teenager in his first season in England

On the assumption we can still get £10m in the summer, surely it is worth losing £5m or so in transfer value for a 30% increase in promotion odds.

Comparing Ronaldos stats in the premier league to Sarr’s in the championship is deeply odd behaviour. Are you feeling ok today?

The argument seems to be that Martins is a ready made replacement. He of course could be excellent but it's one heck of a risk

You came up with the comparison between Ronaldo and Sarr to begin with; I was just pointing out how it made little sense - but well done for saying that you engage in "deeply odd behaviour".

What a ducking disaster! Hopefully the injury isn't too bad, at least he didn't have to come off on a stretcher, but yet again, we keep on a player (or at least tried to) who clearly isn't fit

Really? I reckon the top class pros wouldn’t mess around outside of a big club final or competition like the World Cup. They’d not take the risk. Maybe that’s the difference and this is just another example of how thick our cloggers are. After all, physios don’t have super powers - most on pitch examinations probably start with ‘how does it feel?’

  35. Hogg-DEENEY!!!

    Hogg-DEENEY!!! Squad Player

Well ours certainly don't! I don't think footballers, in the heat of the moment, are best placed to make calls like that, especially when it's a contact injury which can fade away after a bit
