    What do people reckon?

Left back should be a position we're looking to strengthen in the summer. Holebas is getting on a bit and most fans aren't keen on him anyway.

Gibbs is at a decent age (27 years old) and has experience of playing at the highest level. Should be looking to play more regularly at this stage in his career. Home-grown and Arsenal have a tendency to sell their players on the cheap.

Arsenal have been linked with signing a new left back all season meaning either Gibbs or Monreal will become surplus to requirements.

I think Arsenal would be willing to listen to offers. Just a gamble if he would be able to stay fit and whether we could beat off competition from other clubs

I reckon Gino would love to hear from you! Give him a shout, we need scouts with as much inside knowledge as you've shown in your post.

I think that Gibbs would be a good signing but it should all depend on how much the management think Brandon Mason will be ready by the start of next season.

Wow, You and sarcasm, who'd have thought it?

He has tagged the thread as a suggestion, to illicit debate not ridicule.

How about trying not to be a complete tool for a week or two?

He is an OK wing back but his defensive abilities and positioning are poor, often caught up field letting his man go past him. I thought he should have progressed a lot more than he was done, at one point, looked like the national successor to Cole for England. He is a bit like the Walcott of left backs.

Him and Chambers would be good.

I think he would be a decent buy,but wouldnt be all that of an improvement from Holebas.

Aren't you the one that makes the hilarious quips about foreign player names whenever one is posted? Is that the sort of debate you are looking for?

Each slot needs good competition, Holebas is quite decent but has faults, Gibbs likewise but genuine competition for the LB slot can be a good motivator for both.

Seems a good call. As Dowling said, it's where we're at--players not quite making it at the top teams.

You know you are, or you would have gone into full gloat mode with loads of quotes, but because you didn't find any, you are trying to be a cool tool.

You obviously have an intellect, why not try being more positive and less derogatory towards other board users. It's funny occasionally but just becomes boring with repetition.

Apparently Arsenal have signed a pre-contract agreement with Kolasinac (left back from Shalke). Looks like Gibbs or Monreal are on their way out. Id make him my priority left back to chase in the summer

on that bases there are only 3 or 4 sides in England who would sign him and the face he isn't good enough for the top 4, means he has to go elseware

True , just jesting . He would be a very decent signing

He isn't. We've let in more crosses into the box than any other Premiership team they said in commentary and I would suggest he is the main culprit.
    Gibbs every time.

23 year old Aussie striker playing for Brisbane Roar in Oz. He's young, very fast and has some amazing looking statistics for the season (including netting 20 league goals for the second season running) and has now broken into the Australian national team. Out of contract in the summer and has a British passport so would count as being HG. He's not going to set the world alight, but he'll be a cheap HG option and decent enough backup.

Has he actually been linked with us, or is this a suggestion?

If it's the former, could you post the link please? Thanks.

By virtue of having been in Blackburn's youth setup for 4 years, not because he has a passport.

Just saw that Sporting Gijon were relegated from La Liga. This kid is only 20 yrs, had his breakthrough season last year and has been one of there better players this season as well.

Very good player with huge potential and resale value if he reaches it. Not saying he will be the next Pique or Ramos but he will be in the Spain squad in the next couple years if he continues to develop the way he is.

Has a release clause of £25mil apparently with Valencia and Chelsea sniffing around, but I say get in there first and do it now. If we are serious about improving and signing players with sell on value, then personally this kid is the way to go.

Probably a unrealistic suggestion but thought I would put it out there.

I don't know anything about this kid, but spending £25 on a player should not be unrealistic for WFC these days, at least not if we want to maintain our PL status and improve our lot!

It'll take another couple of seasons before we can spend £25m on players, unless we sell someone for insane money.

I agree £25mil is a lot but I was just thinking with the Adidas deal, money for staying in the Prem, new sponsor deals, TV money and selling of fringe/unwanted players, we could afford to splash the cash a little bit. We're probably going to spend anywhere between £40-60mil in the summer anyway, so why not spend it on 3-4 class players as opposed to 7-8 squad players that might improve us.

He probably is an unrealistic signing anyway and will end up joining the likes of Chelsea just to be sent out on loan for a season two at one I their feeder clubs.
