I’ve said it before but I don’t see why Newcastle would want him, they’re already 10th in the league after being in the relegation zone for half the season. They’ll be aiming for top 6 as a minimum next season, which is hardly a stretch even with the squad they have now. They have unlimited cash, why would they limit themselves to a player like Sarr when they can go out and buy pretty much any player in the world that they want? Sarr isn’t a champions league player, or anywhere near close so he’d very quickly become obsolete there, if he wasn’t already by the time he walked through the door.

He's utter **** and I hope he ****s off. If we get 10m for him then so much the better. The money we've sunk into him is pretty much dead and gone now.

They can bid for pretty much any players in the world they want but realistically they need 'stepping stone' players to bolster their squad until they qualify for the Champions League as no one big is signing for them until then. Players with talent and PL experience are hard to find.

While I think he's been utter droppings since AFCON, he's clearly a confidence player and my suspicion is if he was coached properly and put in a team that plays to his strengths and more on the front foot he'd be a decent enough signing (though not at £40m).

Sarr isn’t any more than a mid table player at best and they’re already a mid table team. The gap they need to bridge now is between where they are now, and Spurs and Arsenal, Sarr isn’t remotely good enough to play for either of those teams so he won’t be good enough to get Newcastle to that level. Newcastle can also tempt better players than other current mid table teams by paying huge wages. Sarr would probably fit in at a team like Villa (who signed Coutinho who is way better than Sarr) Southampton etc. Who are pretty much at their ceiling at mid table, Mid-table is the absolute bottom for Newcastle now.

Newcastle are not going to get the best players signing up for next season. No European football, no elite manager, Shelvey in their starting 11.

So I think it’s right to think that they will be looking for players that have already got Premier League exposure. Are seen as an addition to the squad. Young enough to have some sell on value, and can play apart in the squad to move them up a level.

Realistically even with all the money you can throw at it, (as Everton have shown), you still need a plan and process to get in the top four. I still think it will be difficult for them to permanently supplant one of Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal and Tottenham. Partly because those clubs mid term business plan is to leverage their current profile to create massive income streams through a “Netflix of football”. For Newcastle they need to now put themselves above Wolves and Leicester in the pecking order.

Sarr I think would fit the profile they (and their supporters) are looking for. Hopefully they will be prepared to offer £40 million, (and to do so quickly in the close season), which would be good business for us and Sarr.

Everton’s problem was buying players from lower/relegation threatened teams like us and Burnley, and players no longer wanted at teams challenging around 5th-8th place like Iwobi, etc.

Everyone could see that was an awful strategy, Newcastle have already spent money better than that in the short time they’ve been owned by PIF. They’re no mugs and I don’t think they’ll have any problems spending money more successfully than Everton.

Correct regarding Newcastle not just getting unreal players straight away and if they do, it'll be because they're not motivated by much other than money which doesn't equal long term success anyway ala Robinho at Man City.

In their first window as billionaires City signed Robinho, Jo, Nigel De Jong, Craig Bellamy, Wayne Bridge, Shaun Wright Phillips, Shay Given, Zabaleta and Kompany.

It'll be a mix of young players from abroad with high potential and good players from smaller domestic teams and players at big teams on the fringes.

Type of profile I see them look at is Sarr for sure, Origi, Fred, Lindelof, Loftus Cheek etc. Personally anyway.

Sarr is worth 25M top price - and that is if he's playing well. I agree with the comment about Senegal though - he looked like the player we know he can be. Then he comes back to our shower and just trudges around for 90mns. Not that I blame him, but the problem then is any smaller side (Villa, Soton, Wolves) would look at his "effort" and probably laugh Gino out of the negation room.

He's not the player (for us) that he once was, but he still has the ability to be that player. It's about finding a club that will nurture him into a stronger confident individual first, his football ability take care of itself. We are certainly not the club (at this moment) to breed confidence into any young talent.

Yes Newcastle can splurge obscene amounts on wages and transfer fees, but they still don’t offer European football and lots would be put off from living in the north east of England.

A player of Sarr’s ability is about right where they sit in the market. Plus Newcastle is a club with growing confidence and they love a pacey winger. I think we would see the best from Sarr if he went there.

As @foxywfc and @wfcSinatra reference above, this isn't true - in the Premier League alone they'll still be behind City, Liverpool, Man Utd, Spurs and probably Arsenal for any of the most desirable players. Those clubs will still be offering the top players a hefty wage which Newcastle will be unlikely to significantly beat, while Newcastle will also still have the lack of European football, reputation, location or renowned manager.

Perhaps as with City they'll get there eventually, but definitely not yet.

He'll definitely go this summer. If we get Newcastle to pay an obscene amount to buy him, that would be good business.

Dennis has gone back to reasonably productive again in recent games. He's a few years younger than Ighalo was and playing in a much worse team as well. He also had scored goals at the Bernabeu before so his talent hasn't entirely appeared out of nowhere.

Sarr in his relegation season with us had 1 non-pen goal every 406 minutes, plus 1 assist every 508 minutes - again those are very similar figures to this season and to Richarlison's stats this season. They're not ground-breaking stats but still decent. I'm not saying that Sarr will be sold for as much as Richarlison, but the idea that Rich is "3 times the player" to him is clearly absurd, and also he's had some degree of consistency.

I'll remind you that its players that do put up such numbers consistently across an entire season or two who get sold for the same kind of £45mil fee as Jota, and I also don't think Sarr will be sold for that much.

I'm convinced the only comparison between Ighalo & Dennis is the purple patch and the fact they're both Nigerian. Completly different players with different stories.

Do they count more than normal goals then?

Also saying he’s back to being reasonably productive is very much playing fast and lose with reality isn’t it, if you’re measuring productivity with goals and assists that is, which you’re normally very quick to do.

The draw for Liverpool and Manchester is the history and fan base, a lot of these foreign players grow up knowing who Man U and Liverpool are maybe even supporting them from some slum in the world.

But yes agree I’d rather live in the north west to the north east.

Some people might, including many regular English people, but the Manchester - Chester region has more in the way of infrastructure and "bling" to cater to and appeal to many modern primadonna footballers.

And again as foxy alludes to foreign footballers will have probably heard of Manchester and Liverpool before, both the clubs there and the cities, but many might struggle to even point to Newcastle on a map.

That’s just bargaining chips for Newcastle to lower the fee.

We’ve seen first hand Sarr at his best and worst. Right now he’s at his worst but playing for a club in disarray with other players pointing fingers playing as individuals, including him. We expect him to carry us and he hasn’t probably because all the upheaval.
Once he signs for Newcastle I’ll put him in my fantasy team for sure.

For a professional footballer you look at the hinterland though. The region that hosts Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool with an international airport is going to be more attractive than Tyneside. Even though I agree for me of the two options I would pick the North East.

Surely it's relatively easy these days for a PL footballer to live a way away from the home grounds of the teams they play for? Perhaps they can have short-term accommodation closer to a training ground. I remember Michael Owen remained living in Chester while playing for Newcastle and managers like 'Arry and Colin 'living' in Dorset and Cornwall while managing many teams across the country. I'm sure the foreign players also regularly go 'home' as often as they can if they have family in Spain or wherever.

Newcastle is pretty far from a major airport though - Newcastle airport only really flies to the typical summer holiday islands, not even Madrid or Barcelona.

We will get good money for Sarr and will not make a loss. I also suspect he will blossom into a better player than we have seen. Pozzo wanted him to turn into a world beater with us though which hasn't happened at all.

It’s bizarre to think we will get 35m for Sarr. It’s a continuous theme. Sarr was worth £70m after that Liverpool game. And Sierralta was worth £15m+ on promotion. Louza is going to go for £20m one day. Dennis pick any number.

Meanwhile the accounts show the true impact of Pozzo player trading on our own finances.

It’s a view that really does defy all logic and the rules of supply and demand. How we can get more for a player we signed as a PL club on a 5 year deal aged 21, when he’s now 24, has 2 years left on his deal, we’ve been relegated, but most importantly he’s declined in ability and output since we signed him, is totally beyond my powers of comprehension.

People just clinging on to the hope Newcastle will pay over the odds for him and prove them right I guess.

    Between 30-40m.

I don't for a minute think he's worth that based on his performances but Newcastle will pay over the odds. He'll then turn into a 75m player with them.

I admire your optimism, but there is not one single thing that makes him more valuable now than we when we bought him as 21 year old and put him on a five year contract.

Assuming you aren’t privy to Newcastle’s transfer strategy, you’re essentially basing it on nothing more than hope that Newcastle A) want him, and B) will pay way over the odds for him.

Really annoying me that we continue to play the guys that won't be here next season. Of course they'll be putting in damage limitation displays. Doesn't help anyone.
