I think we should cash in on Ash while he is still flavour of the month, because I don't think he will be for long

I like Ash, he is a good player, but I think he is being vastly overated and we should grab what we can for him, before the current hysteria surrounding him dies down.

    "SEVEN MILLION"

is being mentioned for him, we could do some serious damage in the transfer market with that sort of dosh.

I say grab the money and run, we would be laughing all the way to the bank :D

Agree, he was outstanding last season but has stuggled to make a real impact on the premiership. If somebody was to bid 6 or 7 million then even in january it should seriously be considered.

Yeah I think you're right. Seven million could go along way not only on players but also on stadium development.

No Ash is a fantastic talent with huge potential and well worth £30 million of anyone`s money!

(must be careful guys you never know who is monitoring the content of the board);D

  5. berkshirehorn

    berkshirehorn presumably I upset/disappointed someone

but, hey let's be generous and let him go for 20

i agree to some extent and think that although ash is hugely talented, hes not quality. If we get 7 million fo him id be happy. Obviously if someone came in with higher bids, that'd be great, but id definatley take 7 million.

If Ash is worth 7 million, what is bouazza worth? I really rate Bouazza, he is stronger and faster than ash, and runs at players, so surely Boozer must be near that price???

Take the money and run! No doubt in my mind! I love Ash i think he's a great little player and he'll be superb in the next few years...however, he's not proven himself yet at this level and £7,000,000 is far too much to turn down!

I also think we should look to pick up bargain young players to build for next 2-3 seasons rather than spend £3,000,000 on greedy foreign merecenaries like Collins John!

Hoskins and Williamson would be superb signings!

Ashley is part of are future if we sell him we would be moving backwards. we cant sell are best player that would be stupid he is still young and will get better.

Walcott went for 10 and he got into the england squad. ;)

Therefore if Ash is only in the U21's then £7 million should be fair game. ;)

I cannot believe he is such a hot property, there are reportedly SIX PREMIERSHIP CLUBS after Ash

    I say SELL SELL SELL ££££££££££ :D :D :D

exactly. and by getting better, that means he will be worth more;) wouldn't even consider 7 mill now asm he'll be worth more in the future. also if we were to have any remote chance to stay in this division (which we still do despite some of you conceding defeat already) we need to keep ashley young.

somebody also said earlier how he has struggled to make an impact this season is silly as we've all been going on all season about how good he's been for us.

nothing should be done before the end of the season but we've seen it before. 1 silly offer and he'll be gone:mad:

I hate to be patronising but do some of you younger lads remember the last time we were in the Premiership? Bonafide bids for some our players were rejected because of this "if they're good now they can only get better" principle and look where we and they ended up - no where! Sell while the market is strong I say. Ash isn't all that and anyway, there's some sense behind this. How far can he realistically progress at Watford? Put a young Thierry Henry in the Watford side of 1997 and lets just say he wouldn't be the player he is now. Young is near his peak at this club, it's time to let go.

IMO £7mil is too good a price to turn down. The fee could set this club up for the next 5 years whatever happens between noe and May.

However maybe Ash doesn't actually want to leave >>>> there is some loyalty left in football and if that is the case then he shouldn't be pressurised into leaving after all he cost didly squat.

BTW I noticed 2 clubs have offered £2mil for Lee Cook when QPR have valued him at £9mil !!!!!

boothroyd want manager in '97, we weren't going to be in Europe soon, we weren't the learning environment we are now.

also, i think he is overated from the view of a possible buyer and not worth 7 million, but there is no point in taking seven million if we have no where to go, 7 million is not worth damaging our survival chances.

Just arrange the deal for the end of the season. We keep Ash 'til June and the fee is already agreed.

Say if we go down ashley would help us come back up, and hopefully we would stay up at the second try. if we sell him now we are sure to go down ,and its all well having 7 million to spend, but who do we get to replace him most teams will not let there best players go mid season.

I would only sell him now if we could bring in a solid replacement but I can't see that happening.

A club like ours can not afford to turn away this sort of money at this stage of our development. Hopefully, in a couple of seasons time we will be the hunter not the hunted.

However, I would want some assurances that whatever money he may be sold for goes straight into Aidy's transfer fund.

Aidy will make the call and, if we are all behind the boss, we must back whatever decision he reaches.

Ash has been a great servant to Watford and Watford have served him well bringing him through the ranks and making him the player he is today. There does come a time though when a player can outgrow a club. For Ash to take the next step up (full international) I believe that he has more chance to do this if he was with an Arsenal, Liverpool (I'm waiting for the abuse:eek: ). If he was to leave and go to Spurs, West Ham, Villa I am not sure that would develop his career.

So at £7 mill it has to be good-bye Ash but choose your club carefully.

For you guys that are suggesting we should hang on till the end of the season, I bring you back to my original post above!!!

    "HE IS OVERATED"

So I say strike now while he is the current flavour of the month, I doubt his cash value will ever be as high again!!!!

He is a great servant for this club, and he can serve us best now, by moving on!!! Remember what Aidy did with the cash from HH, so imagine what he could do with SEVEN MILLION!!!!

By the way, as Berkohorn says in his post.....

"ALL 7 MILLION SHOULD BE GIVEN TO AIDY FOR THE TRANSFER MARKET"

Otherwise, he should not be sold!!!!

No abuse from me... i totally agree with you.
It is obvious from this thread that we all love ash.. and for us to stop him leaving us to better his potentially brilliant career would be unfair of us.. plus the money that we can get for him would secure the future of the club and allow us to build a fantastic squad for next term.

£7Mil and I'll drive him there myself.

What could we do with £7?
    1. Pay for over half the gound improvements
    2. Buy £4Mil worth of players and pay their wages for 2 years
    3. Buy 14 Marlon Kings!

TAKE THE MONEY AND GOOD LUCK ASH!

Don't agree that we should sell yet. Ashley is the best player at the Vic since Barnesey and getting better and better. He is going to be one of the top ten players in the prem. The little difference he has makes all the difference.

We need him now because without him we can't stay up - he is the only consistent high quality player we have available.

For now you need to forget the cash - there is nothing we can do with it - in regard to players anyway. We already have £4m to spend on a forward and can't spend it. Ok, it might help the shareholders, the board and the ground I admit, but spend it now it will be another tale of waste, Carlos Kickaballs, or moderate talents like Neilson dressed up as £2.25m's worth.

In the summer Ash will be worth £8-10m, maybe more, if he continues his progress. If we stay up we can use the cash to attract players to a premier club. If we go down we can use the cash to get the best of the hungriest Championship players.
