Most likely we'll sign 5 of 'em tomorrow and this post will be rendered pointless - a lot like a lot of my suggestions to be fair!

But am I the only one who is sceptical every time we are linked with a Hull Player? Or Olympiacos? Jakupovic, Tymon, Huddlestone, Grosicki, Seba, Markovic, Elabdellaoui.... Just seems like lazy journalism to me.

When Silva was appointed, Duxberry clearly said the manager stated a position and then the recruitment team came back with 4 of 5 names. Now maybe some of those players above get on those lists due to the fact they have worked with Silva before but I think the board will be aware they've been burnt before like that with players like Suarez, Jurado, Zuniga (arguably)...I just don't see any of those players being top of any lists and most likely, not on them at all.

Which renders the point...Journalism. Easiest job in the world.

PS. I wish Tom Ince still played for Hull.

Using previous ties with a new manager is always floated around transfer windows. In our case you might think it's a bit less true with our recruitment team making most of the decisions but we have done this before - Jurado for Quique springs to mind.

Maybe Silva handed in his list of wanted players as a pre requisite to joining us and fobbing of palace.

My guess would be that Marco will have quite a big say in the transfers, if I was on the board I'd certainly be looking for some input from him.

Yep, Dux said as much in the recent interview..."we engage with the coach: he will say I need an attacking left-back and we’ll give him a shortlist of three or four players who play in that position. He will give his approval to that and we’ll then try to sign....The coach is always engaged in that process. There will never be a player turning up at the training ground that he doesn’t want because that would be counter-productive. He simply wouldn’t play him."

I'm not suggesting he doesn't have a say. I'm just wondering whether he states a position he requires, then gets a list of 3 or 4 players....that's a different matter to him saying, 'I like Markovic'. I'm not debating that he has an input at all. I'm just not sure it goes as far as him suggesting names. But maybe our model is adapting with each coach.

I remember QSF saying he suggested Jurado and Duxberry was pleased because he was on their list of 3 or 4 for that position anyway. But it's interesting to know if the coach's input holds any sway if the player they want isn't on the recruitment shortlist.

I'm not convinced this still holds. With Wally and QSF the Pozzos seemed to acquiesce and sign a couple of favourites for the coach.

No reason to suspect they won't give Silva the same courtesy, especially given the Hull situation (relegated team with premier league-experienced players for the picking).

Niasse is available (loaned to Hull from Everton last season). Wouldn't be surprised to see him with us next season

As you say it is an easy link and easy story for a journalist to write up especially at this time of year when transfer haven’t really got going and there’s not too much football on, there will no doubt be similar stories around Palace/Soton when they hire someone. It also makes it easier that Hull were relegated so they can use one of their favourite phrases like ‘Silva offers player route back to the Premiership despite relegation with Hull’ Not saying there’s no truth in the links as it is pretty logical if a manger trusts and likes a player he’s more likely to go for them than an unknown.

I'd be very dissappinted if we signed Niasse. I feel like he's just another Ighalo who hit a reasonable bit of form at an important time, despite being painfully average

I'd rather we tried to avoid a bunch of players that have just been relegated, sure, one or two could cut it but anymore than that and I think you're asking for problems.
