Make your way to the National Museum on Wenceslas Square.

Once there, stand in the entrance facing up the Square (it is actually a rectangle, very long and thin). Darling Cabaret, the largest strip club in Prague is down the second turning on the left about 20 yards.

Then find you way to Marks and Spencer further up the Square on the left, and you will find Hot Peppers right opposite.

    So I have been told.

    You are welcome.

Those seem to be very accurate directions. If you go in there, can you have a look for £300 I lost in there about 10 years ago!

Early nineties me and a mate almost bought the freehold on a massive 5 or 6 story house on the main street (near McDonald's) for about £25k but unfortunately it was still quasi-communist and we just didn't trust the guy handling it ... When I say massive I'm talking 200 sq metre receptions, bathroom on every floor and 10 huge (by our standards) bedrooms, I shudder to think how much the property is worth now.

I had visions in those days, we were going to set up Prague's first proper tour company* complete with lodgings.

Just saw this! We flew between countries but took the train travelling between cities, only found on the last city to city travel that actually the coach system is the way forward. The trains are horrendously slow and horrendously uncomfortable, especially in the 30 degree plus heat! Drop me a PM if you want to know anything in particular

Just seen Ryanair are doing some nice cheap flights over the coming months, Milan for 35 quid return at decent flight times as well is too good to turn down!

Would rather fork out the extra and go with BA than go anywhere near a Ryanair plane. Also saves the journey to Stansted.

I've done trains between Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine. Even a posh class can be uncomfortable. Train travel can seem romantic but after 12 hours in a hot, smelly cabin with the worst toilets ever it soon becomes very tiresome. The crossing between Lithuania and Belarus was 'exciting' though, felt like proper communist stuff.

Going to NY in a couple of weeks with my GF. Both been before and done the majority of the touristy things, gonna do a few of them again, but any suggestions for less touristy things that are good? Also going to Edinburgh next month, so any suggestions for that would be great too!

It's a bit touristy but the High Line is nice place to walk if the weather is decent. Also check out if Bryant Park has anything going on as well.

I'm moving to Lisbon next week to take up a job offer. I've never been before so I'm going a bit early to get a feel for the place before the crushing reality of working properly for the first time in my life destroys my enthusiasm to explore. any recommendations?

I'm looking at going away for a few weeks in May/June next year with some friends. We've done bags of travellling and are looking at either India, Nepal or Sri Lanka.

Can anyone recommend any of these countries? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

We're frequent (well three years running) attendees at this (it's a lot of fun) in the Winter Gardens (which is a great place to see anything).

It's a really odd place: Margate has one of the world's great beaches - unfortunately it's attached to the exceptionally shabby Town. But, there were/are some attempts to jazz/brighten (Brighton?) the place up - last summer there were quite a few "pop up" cafes/bistros, maybe 5 covers. We had some exceptionally good Thai food in a cafe, some fantastic Bangladeshi food. a few pints in a proper pub and as it's the Kent coast the sea-food is excellent. There was a Peruvian cafe ("We were aiming to sell guinea pig but...") that was the highlight but it seems to have disappeared into the ether.

Yes - yesterday! The delights of east Shropshire!

(We book a holiday cottage so we can take our dog each year and have actually really enjoyed exploring the UK in the past few years. Going for a bit of industrial history this year as well as gardens, castles, stately homes etc - we are so middle class! A decent pub nearby is a must, naturally).

This is the first summer when my eldest child is in full time school. I am still shocked by how much it's going to cost me to travel within the school holidays.

I'm thinking she can miss a week of sticky paper and colouring in and I will take the stigma of being a bad parent.

  27. Keighley

Isn't there a danger you will get fined?

  28. wfcmoog

    wfcmoog Tinpot

Nah, she is still under 5. I think they have to be over 5 at the beginning of the year or something and even then, I think a fine is rare. Even where there is a fine, it's likely to be worth it, due to the savings on a holiday. I think the fines are negligible compared with the difference in a term time and non-term holiday.

I will probably book something in the holidays in the end, because I don't want to be told off.

  29. Keighley

    Keighley First Team

Fair dos. Yep, I don't think the fine kicks in until 5 (though I stand to be corrected on that).

It is a rip off. The UK holiday cottages we book can vary by more than £300 per week between holiday and term-time. As we don't have kids we can usually cash in.

One of the factors OFSTED take into account in grading schools is absence - especially unauthorised absence. So if a few parents take their children out of school for holidays in term time they risk their school being downgraded.

  35. wfcmoog

    wfcmoog Tinpot

Good. Means less parents will want to send their kids there.
