Apparently on this day in 2009 the miracle happened. 269 appearances in, the legend that is Lloydinio (spelling ?) scored his first goal for the Horns.

I was privileged to be there and, like most was be stunned that he had finally scored. Didn't buy the souvenir T-shirt but did actually witness the event.

A day to give us all hope.

Just rewatched the goal, great to see Clevs was one of the first players to celebrate with him.

  4. Tom had to show him which way to go to the Vic end to celebrate.

That at the time epitomised to me the player he was - not always certain of the direction he was travelling. A loyal servant and a consistently committed player nonetheless, qualities not as often on view these days.

Actually I reckon Doyley was heading for "The Rookery", but Clevs not having been with us long at the time, sent him back to the nearest set of fans which was the family stand, and as Doyley was way up on cloud nine he just went where he was instructed to.

Beekayess Junior & I were in the family stand at the time.

It was absolutely brilliant when we realised that it was Lloyd who had scored - there was huge disbelief for quite a few seconds, along the lines of "Who scored ?" "Doyley" "Doyley? Really? Are you sure?"

I bought the tee shirt. Poor quality, as it doesn't fit me too well now. It must have shrunk in the wash ......... ;)

Being lightweights I was watching, with my then 9 YO, the match on the box around my mate's house. My son asked why Llyodinio's celebrations were so intense, my mate (ex-hornet) mentioned that it must have been because of his "...100th goal...". It took me around an hour to stop laughing.

It was just before half time, I wonder how many people who were in the ground missed it in order to beat the half time queues for the bogs or kiosks.

13,500 posts in nearly 5 years and your highlights consist of 184 likes.:D

The thread on the day discussing just Doyley's 1st goal had 170 odd posts.
There's a 2 page thread discussing people reactions to the goal.
A thread discussing his interview on talksport after the goal.

Might I suggest you have a look at the excellent video crafted by the Don.

No one said Lloyd was the best footballer in the world but he's certainly a legend. Look at all the tribute videos on youtube.

Just go back 400 odd pages or so. I had to:D

Ther'es a C&P of the shoutbox reactions somewhere though I couldn't find that. Unfortunately the software's been changed twice since then so the search function isn't reliable.

Over 5 minutes? I haven’t got time for that!;)

Certainly a player who divided fan opinion.

Me? I always said he was a good defender one-on-one but his distribution was poor. I’ve met a few people who wouldn’t listen to anything other than negative stuff. He was picked by quite a few managers for us and lasted so he couldn’t have been that bad.

The funniest thing about Lloyd scoring was that we used to have a virtual bookie then.
I think odds on him scoring was 1000/1 or something stupid and we effectively bankrupted the currency system. More than one virtual billionaire was made that day.

Behave, you plonker! There is a 34 page thread on F1 (started by some petrol head or other) that trumps everything about Doyley...if your figures are the yardstick.

Doyley is a legend of course, in the Mooney mould. What they lacked in talent they made up for with passion and commitment to the cause. Nothing wrong with that but......look how far we've come.

As you know I was doing the vBookie last season until the old site crashed. How could the currency system get backrupted it wasn't as if the 'Orns were worth anything.

I *think* the greatest tribute was from Aidy Boothroyd at the first TFTVL event...it was warm/funny/incredulous. I *think* a trip by the WFCForums massif to Hemel should be made.

I have no idea what that means. Was it the original format for LGTBQ+?

Are Aidy and Lloyd icons of that scene?

The search function does leave something to be desired yes. I have found the best way to search the forum is by using Google.. just enter "Wfc Forums" the subject (or key word) and the year if you know it and sometimes you get lucky.

As i did here.. the Doyley goal thread.. http://wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/qpr-0-doyley-1-reaction.27263/

PS The actual anniversary was yesterday.

Great work finding the thread. Haven't read it all yet but great that Hodson was described as a great attacking threat and that Cathcart was described as Crudcart, how times change. Cleverly also played so two players from 8 years ago still playing albeit we sent them out on extended loans in between.

    PS. The thread started yesterday.

Ah.. it said under your first post that it was posted at 12.05 AM this morning. But i think the times are giving as local to where you are at and i'm over in Norway, so one hour ahead of the UK.

Good to see the club know about the exploits of their legends.

Now assistant coach at Ross County alongside Malky Mackay, Don Cowie called time on his playing career in 2020 while at the Staggies, six years after leaving Cardiff City. Cowie joined Watford from Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2009, gaining his first taste of English football in an FA Cup third-round tie against Chelsea. Cowie assisted Lloyd Doyley’s famous solitary Watford goal against Queens Park Rangers, and scored nine goals in 94 games, before a move to Cardiff in 2011.

It is you who needs to learn your history, sir - soon after the match, that goal retreated to a small cell on an outer Hebridean island to live as an anchorite, and that is what the copy was referring to in its use of the term solitary.
