Bread in the broader sense of the word in that batter ,pastry and bread are made from same ingredients. Should have clarified this in my original post.

Quite right, also soda bread is yeast-free using sodium bicarbonate instead. However batter & pastry cannot be classified as "bread". Never have. Never will.

Have you ever had a 'batter sandwichs' or a 'pastry roll' ? Of course not. The same reason as you ve never had a 'sandwich sandwich'

Because they re all bread based food stuffs.
