A lot of people slate gloryhunters, is there a technical definition of a glory hunter? What is everyone’s view on what a gloryhunter actually is? Are they also only a bad thing? I can see if they don't know songs etc then they don't help to create a good atmosphere, and if they take tickets away from 'true' fans then that is a bad thing, but do they not also create extra revenue? And will not some of them still come next season even if (god forbid) we do go down? Views please?
how along will this thread go. its like the fishy boards again;D ;D ;D ;D ;D they are fair weather fans. the sort we dont need. as soon as we struggle they stay at home, instead of bringing funds into the club at hard times. however when we do well, up they pop for a season back as a fan
As long as the loyal supporters that have supported the club through thick and thin are not pushed out to make way for Glory Hunters then i dont see a problem with them . I wished we had a glory hunter following the size of the Manc's with the ground to suit
I was just wondering, I take it the general consensus is that a glory hunter is someone who only now comes to games, be it home or away because we are now in the premiership? I don’t want to start arguments or anything, and to be honest I didn’t really read any of the threads on the main boards, I am just interested in peoples opinions. Surely there are some good things about gloryhunters?? And why is it that they wind so many people up?
definition: "A glory hunter is a derogatory term used as a form of insult towards people who are, or who are suspect to, supporting a particular football club due to its size, quality and/or popularity in the media. This practice is an example of the bandwagon effect. i.e. They switch teams to whichever is currently the most successful" i'd say it's annoying when they take the tickets
Sorry have to laugh at the technical defintion, ' they switch teams to whoever is the most successful' Yeah barring Ar$enal we haven't sold out, so I don't get why people hate them so much???
What i want to know is what do you call the guy in the united shirt at Watford vs. Accrington??? Can't really be a glory hunter, so apart from an idiot, what is he?
I know someone who stopped going to watford when they got promoted and started suporting st. Albans, but once relegated again he says he'll go back. Given he wasn't motivated by financial constraints, what would be the term for this kind of fan?
There's four types of fans that other fans don't like. Fair Weather Fans- Only go when the weather's nice. ArmChair Fans- Slag off 'their' team three foot from the telly and never go to games. GloryHunters- Support any team likely to do well or with a full trophy cabinet. Romantic Fans!- Will go to the attractive games but don't turn up for League Cup, Midweek Away Games, Away Games over 50 miles away.
I think they are better described as NORMAL fans - those with other interests and commitments in their lives for whom football is just one thread on a rich tapestry. (Ooh maybe romantic was right after all. I'll just dust off me frilly shirt and velvet coat.)
I never read the threads on the fishal site and as there are quite a few references in other posts about them I just wanted to hear other peoples opinion on them, what they are and why they bother people so much. Very good;D
So where would i fit into this? I have been a watford fan for 34 years and was a season ticket holder from 1982/1994 now i go when i can a) afford it b) get the time. This season I have currently been to a total of 0 games... last season i went to a total of 20. The reason i havent been this year is not cos i dont want too but havent been able to for varying reasons.
IF we go down it would be interesting to see how many Season tickets we sell and what the crowds as like...bet you it won't be more than 15k!
