No, that loophole was closed after the Zola season by the Football League. I believe the Premier League followed suit.
I don't think the PL did ... Thinking about it you can have 1 over 21, 1 under 21 (including one of each from the same club) and double that over the whole season. Then of course an emergency loan keeper anytime. However I believe this is domestically and the Fifa rule on international loans still stands as was.
Yeah the FIFA rule is unchanged. The Football League worked around it though. I think you're right about the PL not closing it - there's another thread which prompted me to look at the PL rules and it doesn't seem to cover it.
Having watched the video at the start of the thread and seen his propensity to come charging out, I propose these words to Madness' Our House Ar-laus-kis, Doesn't like to stay in goal, Ar-laus-kis, Loves the sweeper/keeper role I'll get my coat...
Any pictures of him in Lithuanian national dress? We need to get Troy a Morris dancers outfit pronto.
How about one to the tune of one pound fish C'mon baby c'mon baby Arlau - skis C'mon baby C'mon baby Arlau - skis Have a Have a shot Arlauskis Six shots five shots Arlauskis and so on and so forth
This guy looks very decent and also looks like a ****ing nutter. Had a huge bust up with the goalkeeper coach at Steaua a few weeks ago apparently.
I like it but I shall cope better with Vitas Gerulaitis, of whom Clive James memorably said 'had the looks of Apollo and the name of a rare skin disease'!
TBF it's probably done so that he can realistically challenge Gomes while not necessairly displacing him. It's prudent to have a very good 2nd choice or potential 1st choice if required, like Ospina has been for Arsenal as Szczesny.
He seems a bit of a fiery character. He might impress Flores in pre-season and end up starting ahead of Gomes who knows? If he's under the impression he's here as guaranteed number one though and he doesn't get it I hope he doesn't kick off, we don't want those problems reappearing next season.
Just been watching some youtube videos of him, I know it's only youtube, but one thing I really liked in every video was that he shouted and commanded his defence. When they made a mistake he told them. Plus some of the saves he made this past season are nothing short of world class saves. I could actually see him replacing Gomes at some point during the season. Hopefully we play him for all our cup games and see how he gets on but no two ways about it, he will be gunning for that number 1 spot and he might just get it. Healthy competition is good for everyone.
I pretty sure GA has been bought as our No2, with the view to him succeeding Gomes as No1. over time. Having said that I do agree with you Markoa$, that he will probably be pushing right from the start to become 1st choice; he will probably get a lot of chances to do this as we all know that Gomes is prone to injury, which might eventually be his downfall, and could be another reason why we have invested in such a high class GK. Of course it is important to have at least 2 top class keepers in the PL anyway, and I don't think Bond is up to the required standard yet, and sadly I'm not totally sure he will ever get there, though he still could. So what are we going to do with Bond and Gilmartin? I'm guessing Gilmartin is going to be No3, and never will be any more than that, and that Bondy will be loaned out to give him a chance to hone his skills and possibly start to push the other two and hopefully fulfil his obvious potential.
Can't see the point of this signing. No 2 goalies don't win football matches. Waste of a transfer. We still need a nickname for him though. Any suggestions?
Looks like a good signing. I.m more concerned about our lack of home grown players particularly if bond and indeed Murray go out on loan.
Currently, as I read it, there is a maximum of 17 non-home grown players allowed in the 25 man EPL squad. The other 8 can be filled with home grown players or left empty. Sending home grown players out on loan should not be a problem, even if they are part of the 8, if this is the case. Greg Dyke wants to reduce the non-home grown max to 13 though so home grown players could become more of an issue in the future though.
