George has just signed his first professional contract for WFC having been on books for several years. He is a CB and celebrated his 17th birthday just last week. George is already a Welsh youth international and a regular player in our U18 team often wearing the captains armband. He has also played for the U23 side on several occasions and is looking likely to break into that side on a regular basis very soon as he has apparently shown a lot of promise. Furthermore during our last pre-season he trained with the 1st team and made some appearances in the pre-season matches. I am wondering that if we don't strengthen further at CB during this window whether he might be considered as a backup and even get on the 1st team bench in an injury crisis? Just a thought?
Sounds promising. However I thought we all assumed the average player age to get into the first team was 34 and above.
He'll be on the bench for the last game of the season as we break out the 'oles' before Roy does a lap of honour to celebrate our top half finish.
If this was FM2022 it would suggest him mentoring with either WTE or Kabasele to improve his defending. FM used to be so realistic....
I have seen a fair bit of negativity about the youth set up maybe we should upgrade our status and it would be nice to see more young players come through and be involved with the first team but I just wanted to say that I watched them agaisnt Chelsea and they looked quite good to be honest.
To be fair George is meant to be very good. Playing for the first team in pre-season aged 16 is a good indication of where he is, or where he could be if he continues to improve. I'm surprised he hasn't been poached yet, still time for his head to be turned by someone I guess...
My whole point of posting this was that it would not surprise me if the club promoted him to fringe 1st team consideration rather than buy a new CB.
Actually if we have an injury crisis at CB I think he probably will unless we bring in at least one more experienced CB that is.
Not according to the write up about him on the official WFC site. However he may well be able to fill that position too if you are right, which would not be a bad thing as LB has been a problematic position for us for some time.
This is based on literally nothing other than he’s a CB. Hasn’t featured in even a Carabao Cup squad to date. This is a reach, even for you.
Yes I'm sure he'll reach the heights of all the other success stories from our academy who weren't 'poached by the big boys' since EPPPPPPPPP came in.
