Four Hours At The Capitol

Twitter, surely, would be the bigger and better argument. Mueller couldn't accuse the Russians of anything that any other country might do to involve itself in a foreign election, but Twitter appears to be uncovering direct involvement of a government department interacting with censorship on the platform (the one the Russians were allegedly using) at source, and the platform is seen to be influenced by the interactions.

The FBI were fully aware it was Hunter Biden's laptop, when they said it was Russian hoaxing.

It will not be a justification to undo the election. The latches are down on that, but it will justify far stronger criticisms of the administration that benefitted from the behaviour, than the criticisms levelled at Trump for a conspiracy that didn't exist. If the Dems would have impeached Trump for Russian collusion, then impeaching snr members of the DOJ and FBI should be a no brainer, and an investigation of other possible infkuences should be expected. Though I am confident we will be hearing about how it is alright when the Democrats do it, but evil insurrection when its the Republicans.

    Like bullies in the playground.

I mean, all the contact shown between members of the executive branch and Twitter came from the time Trump was head honcho. The Republicans were doing it! Sounds like grounds for further investigation of him and them to me. Hopefully the DOJ are on the case :)

And frankly the evidence so far is wafer thin. We knew there was an internal maelstrom going on at Twitter about what to do around the time of the NY Post story and 6 Jan as it was widely reported on. Now we have sight of some internal correspondence which shows the same. It's hardly a ground breaking revelation. Although admittedly I've only seen the Twitter threads Elon's pet journalists have been obliged to post as part of their deal and there may be more out there.

We have to be honest about the nature of the "direct involvement of a government department interacting with censorship on the platform" too. Anywhere outside of the States the idea that the authorities aren't interacting with social media companies to ask them to take down content would be more appalling than evidence they were. Obviously the 1A puts a different spin on it in America but even then I don't think it tilts the dial considerably.

I can't say you are wrong. But neither can I say the Democrats had any problem belly aching about it for the last six years. I'm only trying to provide a little ballance, when it comes to discussions, on this forum, about how classy people are.:)

Trump's a nob, but what are the things people like you object to in something like this?

If you lived in America, they would apply to you just as much as his family.

Imagine the references you would make to the number 88 if the things he is objecting to were used to censor your political views?

I dunno. I don't necessarily agree everything on Biden's list there is unfettered good news but I like the bantz and would probably chuckle if Sunak was ever in a position to do the same to his predecessor.

The best bit about most of these is your choice constitutional rights only matter insofar as the government is involved, not private companies. There are no crimes to investigate or punish on the big tech side.

Petrol is down and inflation is ‘easing’. They are the only two that have any serious meaning. Bringing back Griner and making marriage legal for everyone for the second time in ten years (no one seriously thinks it was under any threat) are distractions, in the latter case pointless. And with Griner, it is not particularly a job to celebrate, when there are others who could also have been brought back. It is good to have got her back, but a failure indicating massive weakness that he swapped a notorious weapons dealer for a dope vaping sports star.

Of course I understand the sources you rely on would say that. Except we know there's a conservative religious majority on the Supreme Court in favour of overturning its own precedent and decisions, even seminal ones about social rights, and that Justice Thomas has openly written about the same-sex marriage case being re-argued too. The door was open to it, waiting for the Catholic Church to put up the test case.

The same drumbeat came from the right about codifying Roe for years too - "don't worry, no need to bother, no one seriously thinks the Supreme Court will ever overturn it..." What happened there?

And it's important to recognise that in overturning Roe the justices made clear the Congress should legislate for rights it wants. It has done now, at the instigation of the Biden administration and on a bipartisan basis. Something that had been attempted but proven politically impossible in the past decade. In the end it went beyond Oberfell too.

Anyway, we'll find out how pointless this law no one seriously thought was needed truly is when right wing groups don't challenge its constitutionality and try to get it stuck out in the federal courts, right?

It has been done on a bipartisan basis says it all.

    Thank you.

I have no problem with the bill. I am not saying it hasn’t achieved anything, but I am not sure if it warrants a place in Biden’s great achievements of the last two years.

But, of course, I understand with the sources that you rely on, that anything that deflects from real world issues is very important to you.

As for groups challenging it, if you have a genuine point to make that some things be left to the states, and not be dictated down from the Feds, then yes. Make a legal challenge. I would respect that and stand up for it whether it comes from the left or the right. That is the reason why there is more than one arm of government in the US, if you hadn’t figured that one out.

I have no problem with it, politically, either way. But you seek to demonise it by describing it as far right, and suggesting it is morally wrong. Personally, I fully support marriage between consenting adults whoever they are, and I cannot see the Supreme Court putting it out to the states, because, as a right, freedom to marry affects only those involved, and is much more open to application of the constitution. Unlike abortion, which terminates the rights of an unborn child. The two are a million miles apart.

Wake me up when “the far right” start firebombing same sex marriages and burning down churches that perform them, because I will condemn that with you until the cows come home.

But whilst they are exercising their rights as citizens, without affecting the freedoms of any individual or causing harm, no matter how much I disagree with them, let them get on with it. That includes lefties and righties. I object to them burning things down, but not their constitutional actions.

Heck. Even Joe Biden says he believes in the constitution.

Question. If this gets dragged through the courts, even if it is successfully blocked, how many people affected by the bill will find themselves unable to get married, or will have their marriages outlawed?

    This is a joke.

Big Pharma's profits have gone off the scale and Joe's government has been agressively promoting their products, and yet a new bill that will very gradually, a couple of products a year (if I remember correctly) reduce the cost of a limited number of products IF the pharma companies agree to it, is a big win for the people?

Big pharma lost my eye! They are rolling in hundreds of millions in profits (totally it is well into the billions), and Biden has got their backs with state sponsored advertising.

    Again, it is pure distraction.

And, if I remember correctly, one of Biden's first actions was to undo cost savings Trump had delivered in certains drugs, like Metformin and insulin.

I hope my sources were right.

There is something seriously wrong with a society that elevates someone who has killed innocent people to celebrity status.

And he should be silenced. Why should he be given a broadcasting platform just because he went out armed and people died? His opinion has no greater value just because he did what he did. It's just screwed up imho.

That is a complete wind up.:)

I might as well come on here and say Corbyn should be arrested for murdering children, and expect you to believe it, just because someone said it.

If all you guys are reduced to is making silly stories up, then I think the moral tide is definitely rolling against you.

No wonder the behaviour of the modern left is being compared to people 'sleep walking' into fascism a hundred years ago. If the truth doesn't matter, I am not even sure it can even be described as sleep walking.

If you guys can say or like something like this, and still look yourselves in the mirror, you are already way down the road, and noone can say you don't know what you are doing.

A people's jury did not find the people Rittenhause shot to be innocent, and he only shot people who attacked him.

If you don't know that, then it is fair for me to point out the facts to you. If you did know that, then comparison with fascists who wish to prevent those with opposing views from speaking, is entirely fair. Whether you like it or not. If you don't like having it pointed out to you, don't say it. Is there time for a last greetings card before Christmas?

So, Sidney. Did he shoot any innocent people?

I think we all know why you guys actually ignore me.
