Wow. I didn't see this coming considering he had the confidence to go ahead with the election and won it. No doubt he'll have a story that can be construed as good by his supporters, but surely something big has prompted this (as the corruption scandal itself in its current form apparently wasn't big enough).

Once they got Valke, who said it wasn't him cos he wasn't authorised to dole out $10 million, Sepp was cornered. "My mandate does not appear to be supported by everybody," he says. Has he only just noticed?

The Bunny is officially Heppy. For now....

He got away with it for 17 years. Probably thought he was untouchable.....even had the arrogance to go ahead with the sham election, when everyone could see it should have been postponed.

He was oblivious to the reality of the situation. FIFA are not untouchable, they cannot flout the law. Everyone knew they are the most corrupt organisation on the planet, but he seemed to just ignore it.

It's clear that something "big" has changed to make his job untenable to him. No doubt the FBI investigations will reveal it's evidence in due course.

Never thought I'd see the day. Shocking development. I guess the Americans have got him.

Hopefully something "big" will make his time in federal pound-me-in-the-ass-prison untenable, too.

He's just trolling you all and will rescind his resignation tomorrow 'due to the overwhelming support he's received' in the next 24 hours.

Joking aside he is obviously confident that he can endorse a successor who is guaranteed election and who will protect him and his legacy in the years to come. The battle ain't won yet.

Now I'm not one to laugh at the misfortune of others, ah to hell with it HAHAHAHAHAHAHA now this really is a great day for football. Don't let the door hit you on the way out and I hope the FBI come calling tomorrow morning you utter waste of space.

  10. Hopefully now they will scrap the ludicrous idea of staging a world cup in the middle of a desert in summertime

What moron thought that was ever a good idea :dismay:

Oh b*****r, what if his replacement is even worse, is that even possible?

Agreed and not only for football reasons, there are huge human rights issues given how many migrant workers have died and will die.

Wonder who we'll see stand for the position in the next election then. Will Van Praag and Figo restand, or will it be a two-horse race between someone Blatter's endorsing and someone competing against him?

In all honesty being endorsed by Blatter would be a disaster for that person because either they would be possibly tarnished or it would imply Blatter would be pulling the strings without being the frontman.

Who says it has to be a public endorsement? I'm sure a quiet word to his African and Asian pals would do the trick.

Apparently, after being resigned to the sad realisation he was about to be found out and all about to crash down all around him, he then read Godfathers robust defence of him on this thread and is now convinced he is totally innocent after all.

He has done this for one reason only. They are on to him and he needs to get out of their jurastiction quickly, and avoid travelling to Canada. Time is of the essence

He's not allowed to leave the country. The swiss authorities said that any Swiss person connected with Fifa must remain in the country until the investigation is concluded.

Only just saw this, not even seen an article yet ... it surely has to mean damning evidence has been found leading directly to him.

Billy the fish has finally been caught I hope.

Ah ok. Can the Americans extradite from Switzerland?

I would not be surprised if good ol' Sepp managed to find his way into a country which does not have an extradition treaty with the US in the very near future.

I only said he's too smart to get caught ... and that the ST fcked up our bid but that's a different matter.

I was right about him getting re-elected though and that Fifa wouldn't jack.

I would have thought it was sponsor pressure making him resign

I was SO hoping he'd get arrested on a U.S. warrant for extradition in Canada!!!!!!!! But I wonder, he is remaining Pres until an election so will he come to Canada?
