    We are ball number 41.

I will admit the first and second rounds sort of passed me by. Who would you like us to get in round three?

Btw, the draw is Tomorrow night.

Basically anyone our reserves have a chance of beating. I'd hate to see what our reserves look like after losing players to the AFCON!

The winners of tonight's game would be the obvious choice. I see the draw is being made before the game and would amp up the atmosphere somewhat if they drew us. I guess the draw is made in a studio somewhere and not at the place the live game is played as they used to do. Pity as that could have been the closest to Vic Road an fa cup draw had been made. Unless there's been one AT Vic Road?

Whoever we get will be facing our U23s, like the Tranmere debacle a couple of seasons ago.

Sadly the money awash in the Premiership is to blame for the continuing demise of the FA Cup, with too many clubs, including ours, fielding reserve / u.23-type teams in the earlier rounds and using first teamers if they get to the latter rounds. If two big clubs draw each other early on, there'll be an unofficial telephone call to send out similar teams, whilst for the lower clubs - championship and below in this case, the reward of facing a top club's unheard of third team isn't as enticing as it used to be. The attitude of 'Let's get knocked out because the league is more important' stinks.

With more and more rich owners in the game, unless we get one ourselves our time in the top division will not last and when it does, it hugely diminishes our chance of winning something. Take it seriously and try and win it. St Albans City at home would be nice

Not convinced that Ranieri won’t want to take a run at the cup this year to be honest. Doesn’t seem the type to purposely go out by playing kids, but maybe he has in the past and I’m mistaken in this thought.

I haven't been to an away game in years, so any of the following would make for a lovely January excursion:

    45 Yeovil Town

    46 Bristol Rovers

    47 Port Vale

    48 Morecambe

    49 Hartlepool United

    50 AFC Wimbledon

    51 Wigan Athletic

    52 Leyton Orient

    53 Cambridge United

    54 Mansfield Town

    55 Swindon Town

    56 Rotherham United

    57 Charlton Athletic

58 Boreham Wood or St Albans City

    59 Kidderminster Harriers

    60 Shrewsbury Town

    61 Chesterfield

    62 Plymouth Argyle

    63 Ipswich Town or Barrow

    64 Harrogate Town

I've been to Charlton and Ipswich but that was over 10 years ago.

What's the betting we end up with Palace at home?

I may be underestimating the benefit of excessive breaks between games, but I don’t see how there is any need to not give the FA Cup full attention if you are not in Europe and have been knocked out of league cup early.

Traditionally, the FA Cup draw was conducted in a wood-paneled committee room at the FA, featuring the famed velvet bag. And you could only listen to it on the radio.

Been trying to remember when they started showing the draw live. Mid 80's would be my guess but I'm not sure.

It looked like everyone in attendance, home and away had a good time during that fixture. It was one of those rare footballing occasions where there is good will all round.

The draw always used to be on the Monday lunchtime after the previous round and therefore before any replays. That was good because a giant killer could bask in the glory of their win for a couple of days before the disappointment of getting Gillingham away in the next round.
However, I know for certain that in 1984 the draw (still on the radio) had been moved to the Saturday immediately after the previous round’s games had finished. The 3rd round draw had started while I was driving back from a home game and I finished listening to it sat in the car on my driveway. I couldn’t believe it as we came out of the bag away to L*t*n.
My guess as to when it was first televised would be somewhere around 1988 when football was first regularly televised live, but it could have been as late as 1992/3 in competition with the new Premier League.

Not sure I’d put any of those with “lovely” in the same sentence TBH.

Barrow is not so bad because it’s near Walney Island which is worth a little visit, but if we draw Morecambe I advise booking a nice weekend in the Lakes and spending as little time in the town itself as possible (and going there and back on the rattler as the traffic round there is horrendous).

    I found this from 88/89..

and also from the following season. I found nothing earlier but that's not to say there wasnt any tv coverage in previous years.. though late 80's seems a good bet.
That draw vs Newcastle being the first game of a tie that went to a 3rd replay you'll no doubt recall.
