I think Grays hold up play has improved to the point where he should start ahead of Deeney. Gray also offers more on the counter. I still like Deeney, he seems to get better as the season progresses, but our attacks need to be quicker and less predictable. I would go with Gray, Delefeou and Pereyra, but I suspect Deeney will start
Call it what you like. I don't do hedging. Sounds mercenary to me. I always want WFC to win by as many goals as possible thanks very much. No matter what. No need to clutter up my head by creating any emotional ambiguity or conflict of interest. There's that ****** word again. But don't worry, I won't be going crying to the mods. seeking an admonition. I'm big enough to fight my own battles. Obviously there's a difference of opinon here seeing as we are both getting likes.
But surely there’s a difference between wanting Watford to win every week (as I’m sure we all do) and being pragmatic enough to actually see in reality that won’t happen and predict that accordingly. Do I enjoy the odd bet now and then? Yes, sure. If I put a 5-game accumulator on and Watford play Liverpool away - am I going to miss that game off even though it’s a banker, just through a sense of loyalty to Watford? No chance. We’d lose the game anyway. Would I want Watford to lose if I stood to win just a fiver? No. But I certainly wouldn’t feel guilty winning money should they lose as I know that would have happened with or without the bet being placed.
Unless Gracia is deliberately trying to deceive Everton (which doesn't seem his style) I think we'll look largely like last week. I do expect to see Pereyra start on the left. I hope that this means that Deulofeu returns to a forward role, he's much more of a threat there. I suspect that means that Gray drops to the bench, which I'd be fine with.I think Hughes offers more defending than Gray would - and that will be necessary. What I HOPE happens is that Sarr is good for 45 minutes and starts. If he gets knackered, sub him off.
----------------------- Foster ----------------------- Janmaat - Dawson - Kabasele - Holebas -------------- Capoue - Doucoure -------------- -------- Deulofeu - Quina - Pereyra -------- ---------------------- Welbeck ---------------------- If that isn't the line up we will lose approximately 15-0. Fact.
5 new starters, 2 of whom haven't played a match in months and a new formation - in front of a back line that's never played together. I think your on to something.
Yeah, because the usual suspects in their usual formation were unstoppable last weekend, in the cup final and in the final few league games of last season...
Just got back from the game and I have to say I'm disappointed. Dawson again at fault for 2 of their goals and Foster will feel he should have done better with Richarlison's second. Deeney's red card capped off an awful day. There will be those who point to Sarr's late double hat trick and the 3 points they earned, but this is simply papering over the cracks. Javi must go NOW. Gino must go NOW. EDIT: didn't mean to post this back in time.
I expect far more passion from us tomorrow, and fully expect at least one of our players to be sent off.
Are you suggesting last weeks back 4 built up a brilliant understanding after being outplayed by Real Sociedad and thoroughly thumped by Brighton? Not sure why the criticism of Nath’s suggested line-up - it looks a damn sight better than last weeks effort. Just a shame it would involve Javi dropping some of his favourites which we know won’t happen.
Mostly because this isn't Football Manager. You don't just pick 11, make up a formation, throw them out there and have things magically work. if the plan is to send that lot out there and have them get their heads handed to them so they learn to play with one another and work up to match fitness, fair enough. But they would get their heads handed to them.
Again, how has the current set first 11 and set formation worked out for us at the back end of last season and the first game of this season? In our past 3 competitive games we've conceded 13 and scored 1. They're already getting their "heads handed to them", absolutely nothing to lose by ringing in the changes.
Certainly the team from last week need a massive kick up the backside. Would like to see Wellbeck start, if he is fit. I would probably start with Cathcart, as I think he can do much better, and Kabasele makes too many mistakes. Is Quina fit?
It's a tough, tough game tomorrow. I always hope for 3 points but will be encouraged if the team puts in a decent performance, show togetherness and some fighting spirit! As for the formation, how about 4-3-2-1 with the 3 protecting the back 4? Then the 2 moving out to stop their attacking full backs? Yes, a very defensive approach aiming for a clean sheet, but wouldn't that be nice?
I like 4-2-3-1 for where we are now. With Del/Bob/Sarr wide, the full backs don't have to create the width. 3 at the back was disastrous last year & Caps & Doucs are big enough boys to work as a 2. The timing of Welbz's debut & Quina's readiness to play are questionable but I like the thinking. Who is the first choice #10? This formation makes several players' places dubious. Deeney, Dre (as a lone striker), some of our midfield legions but the main thing is to maximise the impact of our best assets rather than fret about the marginals.
I always hope Watford win, but right now they are on the slide. I would like that to change. Do you honestly think this squad will turn it around?
I'm sorry that's utter nonsense. You have no idea what they have been working on in training. And I'm fairly comfortable in suggesting that every player that Nath put down has played in the system he suggested in the positions he suggested.
Yes. If we get the two new attacking players fit and raring to go and Javi changes his formation so all of them can play in their best positions. You can perm the back four as much as you like (and they still wouldn't be brilliant) but in a 4-2-1-3 I'd play EC and AD as the two, RP or WH as the one and IS (not Isaac), GD and DW up front. IS can mostly stay wide. GD can join DW infield when it's out on the touchline with IS. Troy relegated to the bench.
Against Wolves at 2-0 down, l felt we still had a chance. I also felt we could beat Wolves on the form guide. The team dynamics were upbeat. Against Brighton at 2-0 down, l felt how many will they score? Potter had spent well and sussed us out within 10 mins. How many times have you heard the crowd boo the team at half time? First game of the season as well.
Is it just me, or is anyone else feeling nervous about tomorrow. After last wee Indeed. We all know the team he will play. Foster, Femenia, Holebas, Cathcart, Dawson, Hughes, Doucoure, Capoue, Pereyra, Delefeou, Deeney.
Fair enough. I'm not suggesting any immorality here b.t.w.! Your analysis is fine. I agree we didn't look like getting back into it at 0-2. But I haven't been asking about what you thought would happen from then on in. I've been asking what you then wanted to happen given the very obvious conflict of interest. A very different thing. And that's the question you still haven't answered. You'd lumped €20 on that 0-3 so quite a big payout I presume riding on that third goal. No need for a new thread now methinks. It's all been very well aired on here.
Which ones? There've been a few. This isn't about her from Bute with milan tattooed on her toe again is it?
Not feeling nervous, feeling more complacent and that we are too good to go down. Even if we finish the season in the bottom 3, I think we'll still stay up. Believe in Watford!
