Well Dennis will know his place if there is an issue with attitude or behaviour so has probably changed his ways and sure VI would have a say now too.

Whereas before we had so many managers which meant the players could do what they liked without being controlled.

His place is being by far and away our best and most important player.

VI shows him respect or exits the club. It's that simple.

Totally changes the dynamic of the team.

If he's not getting the ball through the middle he will move (quickly) to deeper and wider positions that our current strikers are physically incapable of doing. Like having an extra man rather than 10.

No doubt Dennis is technically above everything we have at the moment and also a great fit for Val’s pressing game . But as we know , that doesn’t guarantee any kind of performance levels . Still can’t help but be excited by the prospect of this

  5. GoingDown

    GoingDown "The Stability"

Exactly. Our fans are already calling for him to tone down his pure winning instincts in order to fit in with our latest coach.

    Speaks volumes.

Delighted with this, total maverick but exactly what the team needs. Lots of workers behind, they need to recognise Dennis as the man who can win the game and allow him a small amount of creative licence (he must still do his pressing etc.)

If done right, and supported with some useful additions in other areas, this changes our ceiling for the season.

What a pleasantly surprising piece of news this is.

Thought he was a real diamond in the pretty substantial rough that was our squad last time out in the PL.

His composure and quality of finish at times was something you rarely get to experience at this club. I know we got hammered that day, but his goal vs Leicester in the snow is always the first thing that springs to mind when his name gets mentioned to me.

We need a sprinkling of quality in the final third for the remainder of the season, let’s hope he can rediscover some of that form!

Yep, I've just watched all his Watford goals on YouTube and most of them are supreme. Deulofue-esque.

One of the most naturally gifted players ever to play for our great club I reckon.

My apathy for the club was at an all time low after being ground down by so many things over the past few seasons, this is the first season I can remember regularly missing games and just checking the score afterwards, or sometimes even just forgetting we were even playing… but this has reignited my enthusiasm, something to get genuinely excited about, least not because at the very least, our exposure to the two lumbering idiots that call the themselves strikers should now be blissfully limited.

I'd be surprised if he plays most of his games for us as the CF, at least to begin with anyway.

I suspect initially he'll take one of the two wing spots, then when Sema is back at LW he'll more regularly take the RW spot.

Martins hasn't been that great recently, and Asprilla can be very hit and miss when starting but does better off the bench.

Get one of those massive flags in the Rookery with his face on it, make up an ace new chant for him, show him a load of love and watch him make mincemeat of all the Championship cloggers he'll come up against. This is a player that had the ability and confidence to dribble past Manchester City players, even as the rest of the team was doing their customary rolling over.

My issue with Dennis when he was here previously was that he was a very skillful talented player, but had a terrible football brain. His decision making was shocking; shooting when he should pass, dribbling when he should shoot, and more often than not giving the ball away. There were moments of brilliance but he was so frustrating to watch. And a fair few of his goals were shanks.

That said, we're not in the Premier League any more and he's a cut above what we've got as well as most other Championship strikers. His pace alone will give us an extra edge we've been missing.

Have you seen some of our decision making this season? He's a gear and a half above this league when it comes to final balls and decisions in front of goal. I would agree that he sometimes was a bit greedy. But there were a few worse in the team than him at the time. Demonstrably motivated and put in the effort when surprisingly selected ahead of the Forest transfer.

The only concerns is his match fitness and if he can hit the ground running.

I do hope he plays on Sunday.

Looking forward to the witch doctor curse being lifted too now.

Maverick in the mould of Fernando Forestieri - if the crowd show him the love he needs he absolutely dominates a game. Great news. We will either get promoted or have an entertaining clown show of a spectacle without much fear of relegation, win-win.

Apparently Clarence Seedorf was a total clown, but he would still comfortably be our best midfielder.

Also, lets not forget there’s a real leader in Livermore in the dressing room now that won’t stand for rubbish.

Plus, Kone, Kayembe & Livermore is a better balanced midfield than what Dennis had with Sissoko and Kucka behind him.

We lost 27 times in a single league season, with three different coaches, of course the bloke lost his way. With some stability and continuity now, he could really shine.

He probably looked up and saw Joshua King and Sissoko standing in space and thought I have more chance of hitting the net from this 5 degree angle

A top-tier striker who has scored 48 goals in 225ish matches, mostly in Belgium, and whose last 1.5 seasons in the Premier League involved a total of 4 goals. I hope I'm proven wrong, but history shows those 8 goals in a half-season for us might be the anomaly.

I'm a little surprised by the seemingly unison enthusiasm about this. Yes, he was a good player for us in 21/22, but the facts are:

    - This is a Gino/Bayat transfer.
    - Ismael specifically said he turned down Dennis in the summer, so he doesn't want him.
    - During the last 18 months he's scored a total of 2 goals.
    - He's been out with an "unknown" injury since mid-November.
    - We already have a lot of "cut inside" wingers and he doesn't fit the profile of the type of striker Ismael wants.

This transfer - if true - puts us back to square one, doesn't it? Gino's not going to be happy when "his" player gets dropped for turning up late to a team meeting, and the ball starts rolling from there.

He needs to get his carreer back on track, obviously, so maybe he'll just get his head down and give his best here to try and sanction a transfer away from Forest in the summer. But we had similar hopes with Louza and that clearly didn't work out.

He's a mercurial talent who only thrives in the right environment.

It's hardly surprising he lacked motivation in Nottingham, Belgium and Turkey is it!

This guy is absolute mustard. The season is saved.

The club have clearly been playing the long game, all the terrible deals, millions siphoned off and the double relegation was all leading up to being able to resign Dennis as a mid table championship club, subsequently gaining us promotion, then and making us all look like fools.

Tend to agree, plus Steve Cooper is a pretty good judge of a player and tends to get something out of most he works with.

There's a reason why his dropping down to the Championship. His better than we have, but that bars pretty low.

David Barnes was pretty average to be honest

The enthusiasm stems from we're getting a Premier League player as an upgrade to Rhys Healey......what's not to like?

He's taking a 70% wage cut. There are not many mercenaries that do that. To me, he just wants to play football at a place where he is universally appreciated. Watford probably represents the best period of his career. Sure, he's struggled since then, but he comes across as a player who needs a lot of love and to be appreciated in order to give of his best.

I've always rated him. He's box office. What do we want as fans? I'd rather see a lively, infectious character, playing football with genuine quality in his feet, than the likes of Rhys Healey.

I think there's only upside to this deal. Even I admit we're unlikely to be relegated, so there's very little risk of implosion to such a degree we'd go down (imo). So, it's a question of having someone who gets you off your seat in anticipation and who might actually make the difference to push us into the playoffs.

For sure, ALL Championship clubs will be wary of him and will have to plan accordingly to cater for him. This will leave others with more space to play in. Dennis, is a player who tries audacious things, and has the ability to pull it off. He is unpredictable.

For me, it's a no-brainer to bring him in. He's fitting into our wage structure, he's got a bit of repair work to do on his career which I'm sure will motivate him positively. It's a 6-month gig and I think we should just enjoy it.
