Nigeria were saying Watford bared their fangs. Maybe Gino is really a vampire and Dennis is a little scared of having his neck bitten and turning into a zombie, or even worst, mistaken for a Watford defender!!

I know Bachmann is a vampire, so there could some truth to this.

I've been told Nigeria couldn't guarantee him his favourite seat on the team bus...

 

According to the WO, Dennis is no longer AFCON bound . Do they know something ?

I thought I was reporting breaking news there. I’m obviously a couple of days behind with the developments !

 

Easy to forget some people lead normal lives which don't involve constantly checking a football forum on New Year's Eve lol

Why? Nigeria missed the deadline, it's their own fault.

 

You don't think it sounds like a bit of a "technicality", as a lawyer would say? One which we could have easily overlooked?

 

Why should we? He's our best player at the moment! The whole Nigeria set up sounds a bit of a shambles so I'm not surprised they've done something so stupid as this.

 

Well, the “why should we” is it is a damn good way to piss him off.

 

With my tin foil hat on and given the total lack of enthusiasm Dennis has shown up to this point for the national team and this AFCON, you might be tempted to see this as the best of all worlds:-

A person as close to Dennis as his agent puts it out on the record that the refusal was entirely down to us exercising our right over a technicality (that, it seems, they did in fact stupidly manage to overlook) so Dennis does not burn his bridges at all with the national team down the line, now that his international exile is over.

In the meantime, Watford are confirmed as the bad guys, but as long as they have in fact arranged it with Dennis behind the scenes, there is no further downside to them copping all associated flak.

I would imagine that he is far more preoccupied with having the best season possible, not having it interrupted by something that brings a fair risk of instability and injury, and therefore earning a move to the biggest team possible. As I've said before, I'm sure we will have addressed that with him, and painted a picture of our own willingness to facilitate that, should he stay right now in this moment and help us scrabble free of relegation.

And if all those moving parts have indeed come together, then everyone's a winner - except the at-least-semi-incompetent Nigerian FA, who haven't really been that bothered about him at any point up to now, and including (supposedly) the very immediate future, with the reported lack of assurances over game-time at the tournament (when, again, he could be back here scoring more goals and adding clubs' eyes and zeroes on the cheque to the mix).

 

Yes, we can be stupid sometimes, but I doubt we’re so stupid as to enforce a loophole if Dennis himself was showing any sort of resistance to us doing so. It’s just a case of us having to take the flak for it.

 

There's literally no evidence that he's pissed off.

 

But he could have been. It was a risky strategy to base the decision on a technicality, that’s my point.

 

Unless it was done with his agreement.

 

If he really wanted to go he would've gone, he's done enough in the first half of the season to get out of this car crash of a club over the Summer and he knows that we can't afford not to play him when he came back.

Why would he not want to go though? Tournament football is brilliant.

I think Sarr is a very good player and a real danger man for us yet I never understood the Liverpool link as for me he doesn’t play like Salah / Mane.

Dennis on the other hand seems the exact mould and if he continues to impress wouldn’t be surprised to see Liverpool come in for him one day.

 

I think he has the talent, but he seems far, far too rogue as both a personality and a player for Klopp to want to bring him in to his system, to me, to be honest. I think his mercuriality will always be a little bit of an issue in that sense.

 

Seems an ideal replacement for Zaha

 

Just watched yesterdays match on Sky and although Dennis was not at his sparkling best, he actually had a better game than I thought he had judging by what some people were saying about him.
