Aidy Boothroyd will move for Norwich striker Robert Earnshaw, Crystal Palace winger Jobi McAnuff and West Ham defender James Collins as he tries to get Watford straight back into the Premiership. (Express)

All would be excellent singings so I hope we get them:)

A season too late yes but would still be excellent signings and the sort of standard we should be looking at. Don't know too much about Collins to be honest.

At last the rumours are starting to link us to players of the required calibre!

Collins would be a decent signing thats for sure. Not convinced about Earnshaw as I don't know how well Marlon would link up with him. Wouldn't complain about having McAnuff either.

With regards to McAnuff, i think he would have been expecting Palarse to at the very least challenge for promotion and possibly go up, whilst rightly expecting us to go down. Maybe now after a season of disappointment with Palarse he'd be more open to a move.

So swap one season of disappointment for another?

Cynical on your behalf, but I fancy we'll do alright next season. It's hard to judge and maybe i'm subscribing to the Aidy blind faith but hopefully we'll be able to show all the things that got us promoted next season, whilst having a bigger and hopefully better squad.

The rumours often link us to players of the required calibre, but they are always wide of the mark, as the reality is invariably lower than our very worst expectations.

premiership quality players at last could have done with this lot last year. fingers crossed we do sign them as would be a real signal of intent from boothroyd.

I'm fairly laid back about all the players we are being linked with....but landing Robert Earnshaw would be excellent.

Earnshaw and King at Championship level is about as good as it gets.

Precisely. These guys are the calibre required (tho not sure on James Collins)

I would take Earnshaw (£4mil), McAnuff (£3mil) and Volz (£2mil).

Thats £9mil and just about enough to ensure the play offs next season which is the minimum.

Anything less would be a disaster and an absolute disgrace.

9 million plus wages...not going up having spent that amount might end up being a disater like ******!

Totally agree with you there. There could be a good possiblility with Earnshaw as Norwich have now lost parachute payments and will need to offload big wages earners. It seems they can't/won't give Dublin the same deal due to wage issues.

As already stated, we must spend about 15 million if we want to go and then stay up.

Nothing will ensure the play offs but i know what ya mean. It will certainly give us some much needed quality. Collins would be useful, but i have a feeling that his potential signing would mean one of the current 3 (J.D/C.C/D.S) will be on the way out.

Would be good. But will not happen as these may even constitute exciting signings for big money. Cant be having that.

Are people really expecting 9 million or so to be spent just on new players?

We didn't spend that last summer so why now?

It's all a question of what players we can get! Last season we couldn't get the ones we want. Could we get Earnshaw and MacAnuff (not sure about Voltz) we should buy despite them being more expensive than we're usually spending.

Norwich are in a lot if trouble financially at the moment, £2mil sure as hell isnt gonna see them out of trouble. Ernie will definitely leave in the summer... fingers crossed he'll head our way!

Naaaarch may not have to sell, but I can imagine Earnie would want to leave. If we can't tempt him away then I suggest we turn our interest to the 'forgotten man'....Freddie Eastwood. :notworthy:

Good call fella. Very much like Jerome, quick, strong and a good finisher. I think Neil Danns is up for grabs aswell from Brum...decent scoring midfielder. (if we don't sign Rinaldi and seeing as Williams and Francis are out).

    Isn't Kightly a winger?

I wouldn't want Eastwood, from what I have seen of him I haven't been very impressed and he seems vastly over-rated. He hasn't scored since the end of February and in the end he has only managed 11 goals in 41 Championship starts- not that great a record really.

I would like Jerome; I reckon he and King would work well together. Also, haven't we been linked with him before? I'm not sure if Birmingham would be open to offers for him necessarily though- Bendtner and Cole are both leaving and Vine has hardly set the world alight there. That just leaves them with Campbell, Forssell and Jerome (if we take McSheffrey as playing left-wing).

Put Eastwood in a decent side creating chances and he'll tuck them away. Anyone that can score the winning goal against a very strong Manure team is surely a decent match winner to have?

That was only a free kick, with free kicks it doesn't really matter who the opposition are except for the goalie.

I also reckon that if we put Priskin in a decent side creating chances he'll tuck them away. However, what we missed without Marlon was someone who had the quality to be able to create chances for themselves out of not very much, during games where things are generally tight or tough going. From what I've seen I don't think Eastwood is quick, strong or skilfull enough to do that.

I've said this before: Let's not spend on a forward when there are plenty other areas that could do with strengthening.

    Left back
    Right Wing
    Left Wing
    Central mid
    Goalie

Jerome is vastly overrated, one good season with Carduff and did very little at Birmingham after failing to make the step up. Overpriced and when he played against us at the vic he showed that if things aren't going his way then he become lazy and uninterested.
