I don't think either player would expect to walk into the starting 11, so they would be ideal back up squad players and both home grown, also both would make good impact subs as well!
Sorry are these the players vital to Sunderland's chances of staying up this year one of whom has a tricky day coming up in court on child sex charges? Other than this top notch scouting.
I'd probably take Defoe. On a free. To sit on the bench. On a match by match contract. On £5k per week.
Raiding lower 6 Prem teams for good players seems a good plan. 1. Weakens rivals 2. Best players won't want to stay with a relegated side
I think if we're still top half in January we might be aiming higher than players from the bottom 6 teams.
I can't tell you how much I'd love to see AJ in in a Watford shirt again, "tricky day coming up in court on child sex charges" permitting. Not going to happen obviously.
Defoe is a great player, however at age 34 and on a very large wage would hardly be one for the future!
Agreed, but he probably has a season or two at this level still in him, especially as an impact sub and an occasional back up striker.
I know, lets throw the Pozzo model in the bin and turn ourselves into Sunderland or Newcastle Stupid ar5e thread
You always look to see how you can improve a potential signing. In Johnson's case we could get him a better lawyer.
If we were to try and sign two Blunder players they would, for me, be the golekeeper, Pantiliman or something (I WORRY about our Lithuanian bloke) and the young fella, Whatmore is it?
Even rubbish teams have decent players. Would you say no to Charlie Austin, Danny Ings or Curtis Davies, all of whom got relegated last season?
Suppose I must rate him more than you, definitely don't see him as bang average. Anyway, it was late and he was the first decent Hull player I could think of. Plenty of other examples I could have used.
