Disappointing attendance

I know this was the general story across all cup games yesterday and Steve Bruce was particularly critical of Birmingham's pricing policy but our attendance of 11745 is carp.

There are lots of mitigating reasons - Xmas and New Year, away trips to Villa and Manure, the weather but it really was a poor turnout if you consider that there must have been 2500- 3000 Stockport.

Were the tickets too expensive yesterday - i don't really think so. £8 for a kid so i took a couple of my son's mates along. Probably tells us that our core support is no more than 8000 with the gloryhunters making up the rest?

It was a particularly dismal prospect in the rain.

I went, but I thought it was too expensive and lots of people voted with their feet. I've got no problem with that, its a passion rather than a sentence!

The weather had a big part to play in yesterdays attendance too, especially after the joke of a pitch for the Wigan game. Not many, myself included, knew that it was covered to help keep the water off. A lot of us on here considered that it might be postponed, so the general Watford supporting public would have probably thought the same.

lets not loose site of the fact it was Stockport who insisted on the higher prices.

    We originally proposed;

    £10 adult
    £5 child
    anywhere in the ground.

As any lower league club does that look upon the cup as a great revenue tool and thus the prices charged yesterday were the compromise agreed between the two clubs.

So our core support is about 8000?

A mixture of bad weather and high prices was the problem.

Plus to a fair share Watford fans the game was hardly attractive..wrong I know but we do have fans who pick and choose along with others who go to every game they can like many clubs.

If we got a Championship side next I think the crowd would be about 15k...like last season and ofcourse a sell out for a Premiership side.

I did not think there were very high crowds anywhere apart from at Anfield and Chelsea.

    "core support is about 8000"

Maybe a bit higher but last season we only had 9k ST holders at the start and the average has often been around 13k over the years.

Remember when I first went to the Vic in 1992 the norm was about 8k010k until Graham Taylor came back.

The third round of the FA cup has traditionally been bad for gates.. unless its a clash of the titans affair ie: liverpool arsenal.

When you can see the likes of Chelsea etc. at Vicarage Road Stockport doesn't really stand out. Also weather was poor.

Look at the opposition, i know plenty of core supporters that didn't go yesterday. 18 quid is too steep and it was the FA that set the prices.

Stockport wanted to charge 25 and 15 and then we said it was ridiculous they cried claiming we were deliberately denying them the chance to make money. So they went running to the Fa.

There were at least 3 regular attendees on the chat yesterday.

Im my opinion, yes the attendence could of been better but the noise we made was terrible. I think the people who came yesterday were the singing lot, the noisier lot, so why didn't we sing?

The Rookery 'sounded' like they were collectively asleep for most of the game. Getting up to celebrate goals was an inconvenience I think! ;D

Well faith wasnt there... so that explains the quietness of the front right of the rookery as you look at it from the pitch. dont know about the rest though!! lol

When the first goal went in it was less of a celebration than a collective sigh of relief. Although around me, the Moses Ashikodi goal was celebrated well.

  17. i had 2000 empty seats, next to me. glory hunters stayed at home in the dry. a poor show.

Well that is true...it will be a full house against Liverpool and probably a lot of Poll fans in the home end if the Arsenal game was anything to go by.

I was trying to explain to some Stockport fans that actually we have a lot of part-time fair weather supporters really so it was not a surprise the crowd was not big.

As said elswhere should we go down I doubt crowds will be much more than 15k unless we are doing a Reading from last season or something and winning loads of games.

glory hunters here there everywhere, who actually gives a damn???? we're playin a league 2 team, poor weather and with 2 big away games coming up you can't blame people for not wanting to go!

some people dont want to pay for all the games, £18/£8! if you already pay for a st or eb=ven match by match + trips to newcastle etc. you dont need to be spending money on that game

I didn't go as I was taking down christmas decorations etc. I would have thought about going if there were more signings playing but I wasn't going to go for Moses Ashikodi.

like i said before... and will say again!!!!

FA CUP ROUND 3 GAMES ARE ALWAYS POOR ATTENDANCES!!!

This is not a case of fair weather supporters.. it has been the case in all the years i have followed football.. and if you play FM you will notice on that also that on FA cup round 3 day the attendance is usually some 40% less than league match days!

Sitting at home in the warm.. not getting wet.. it happens every year.. this year is no different.
Its ok for those who get everything paid for them or have alot of spare revenue but for those who work hard to earn their money and have mortgages and families and live a long way from the ground january is a very hard month.. after christmas and new year there are not many people who have much disposable cash available and unless you live in and around the watford area if you have a ST or not it still costs alot to go to games... people look at the third round of the FA cup as a chance to save money... its not a fact of being glory hunters its a fact of being responsible and leaving yourself available for the games that truly matter.. ie the league... which anyone with any ounce of common sense will know is more important than the FA cup to a premiership/championship side.

No dont be sorry... you just reiterated what i have been trying to point out to the people who dont have to worry about money or living expenses that have a ST and live next to the ground!

the most annoying thing about it all is the fa dont understand that there are people who travel from all over the world to see there team play but they still put prices so high that fans can not aford it shocking really

Unfortunately its a sign of the times in this country... the government are pricing people out of their cars to get them to use public transport and at the same time making public transport too expensive to use.. no win situation in this country anymore.

Don't use Christmas or the weather as an excuse, or even the ticket prices,if we had bee playing Chelsea/Liverpool/Arsenal etc the prices could have been doubled, the weather could have been worse and there would be "life long" fans on here whining how they couldn't get a ticket.

Liverpool next week sold out so maybe the 2 games should have been sold as a package.

Because, you know, the current government obviously set train ticket prices
