Fifa must drop its proposal to limit the number of foreigners fielded by European clubs, warns G14 chairman David Dein. More...
I think they should.. level the playing field somewhat and it will enhance the World stage vastly ensuring that the fresh young talent from given countries get a chance to play for the best teams in the country they will represent... rather than like here you get some fantastic players who spend their time on the bench or in the reserves so dont get the experience they need to really perform to their best on the world stage.
I support home grown players, however by the time this comes into force, Tamas Priskin and Al Bangura will be considered home grown!
You'd expect the chairman of a club with practically no british players to say that. It would be a turkey voting for christmas. what sort of side would wenger field if he could only have, say, five foreigners?
thats a good point. i saw a reserve side arsenal put out had no british players in it but probably most of them would be considered 'home grown'. some may even eventually qualify to play for england!
That is the thing, most of arsenal's youngsters will be considered home grown by the time the restriction comes into place.
i'd be prepared to allow that of arsenal as they contribute something special to the premiership and football as a whole. Plus as youngsters, they deserve a chance. A team like Chelsea on the other hand who get established foreigners and then use them in a system that even i could play in, thats not right.
Theyre different in the respect arsenal use young foreigners who may aswell be naturalized, whereas chelsea don't. Its a big enough difference for me.
