Agreed, he's clearly not as wedded to 3-5-2 as we perhaps would have thought when he joined, but regardless of formations, I'm sure Edwards has his preferred style of play, I don't think it's a massive push to suggest flying full-backs/wing-backs are a part of this
I hope that’s the case. It doesn’t explain why we’ve spent the vast majority of his tenure up to this point playing players out of position in a 3-5-2 though. He wanted to coach that system, was almost certainly assured of getting players to fit and hasn’t.
This type of post is why a lot of people take issue with you on here. You seem completely unwilling to acknowledge that what we’ve seen with our own eyes is Edwards trying to play a certain way but not having the players to do it. But fine, you carry on pretending this summer has gone exactly as he would’ve wanted.
There’s a possibility he’s being diplomatic, no? I think it would be naive to rule out the possibility that he would prefer to play a certain way, but has chosen to keep any concerns or discontent with the options he’s been given private. For balance, I think it’s reasonable to consider that with the unexpected bonus of Sarr looking more likely to stay, Edwards has been willing to adapt in order to get the best out of him. It does seem a bit short-sighted to ignore the previous work of RE, and the whole pre-season spent developing a system with 3 at the back, based on a short comment in an interview, but if you’re not willing to consider alternative analysis, that’s fair enough.
Next time you post wondering why people take exception to your contributions sometimes, maybe think back to the above post as it’ll inform you.
Fair enough. I was feeling grumpy at the time and let it spill through. I apologise to the poster and the forum as a whole - that statement was unnecessary and rude.
