Just heard Dave Jones on skysports news saying Chopra could be sold if the right offer comes in! We definatley missed out on Chopra last summer...couldn't believe there were people on the 'fishal boards saying he wasn't good enough! 22 goals in the Championship in a average side that didn't achieve promotion says otherwise really! Seeing as he was signed for 500k I think with Cardiff's financial position we could get him for £2,000,000! Go and get him Aidy!
bubble do you really believe aidy will spend anymore big money im not so sure. i guess the three that are still for the taking are eastwood, chorpa and helguson to be honset i dont know who the better one is but if we could sign one of them i would be happy but im not sure if to believe we will.
I personally don't think we need another striker but we could do a lot worse than Chopra if we did go for someone.
King and Chopra upfront! Would cause havoc amongst defences! Can't believe Jones has come out and said he'd sell if he got a good bid! Something definatley wrong there...he's clearly trying to sell his players through the media! Wouldn't suprise me to see a few Chopra bids come in now!
Still wonder why we didn't go for him last season really, I didn't think he was prem class at the time and assumed we would actually buy a prem quality player instead, when infact we were planning for relegation all allong! (assuming the Dave Basset deal was true there!) He has now proved he can play a full season at this level and score, so yes, I would now sign him and as stated above Cardiff need money for a new ground and have spent a fair bit already I believe so could do we a big deal.
Well I posted a message the other day saying I don't think Aidy will spend anymore money, will probably sign freebies and loans...HOWEVER, when a player of Chopra's calibre is up for sale you have to take advantage! We should be spending money seeing as we have only spent £2,000,000 of our money on McAnuff! We should be spending the £6,000,000 parachute money or whatever it is on players that will take us back up BUT will also score goals in the Premiership...Chopra DEFINATLEY falls into that bracket! We possibly don't need a striker for this season but if we get promoted we will DEFINATLEY need another striker...seeing as Chopra is available i'd get him now before someone else does! We could always offer Ashikodi or Hoskins as make-weight...or even Henderson (he has been linked with Cardiff a few weeks ago)
Henderson and £1.5 million would be a good deal allround I reckon. We would have to play the ball on the deck though then wouldn't we?
Na - he's been up too many sheep. Scoring goals in the fizzy pop doesn't automatically make you a premier class striker. Didn't he play for a premer club once? Where we may have missed out was agoobalar (sp) of villa, now he's worth a few bob, Chopra would be like geting webber back.
Paddy i'm amazed mate, I thought you spoke sense! Agbonlahor was NEVER going to sign for us permanently seeing as Villa rated him as 'the next big thing'...he proved that last season with his displays/goals! Chopra was a VERY REALISITIC shout last summer for 500k! I grant you scoring 22 goals in the Championship doesn't automatically mean he'll score goals in the Prem, however King scored the same amount 2 seasons ago but made the step up and looked at his level in the Prem! Chopra is still very young and will be a Premiership striker in the next 2 seasons...hopefully with us! For 500k he was certainly worth a gamble last summer! Agreed entirely! He's got something special about him...technically very good and would suit the Premiership!
i dont think hes amazing atm imo but ti think he wiuld really add something to the squad and would i beleive score some goals in the premership should we get there
Should have snapped him up back then for the 500k estimation, not totally sure whether hed be a quality signing, and i definately would'nt pay more than 2.5 million for him. For me, id have him in our team for 2mil, as he is currently better than anything we've got ('cept king)
Doh, yep remember now. But then thats not really Chopra's fault right? Plus Tommy Smith doesnt strike me as the sort of guy that'd hold that sort of grudge for so long........ I would have thought he's forgotten all about it!
But jobr is. I wouldn't want Chopra back as I regard him as the reason TS left in the first place, although it wasn't his fault.
Straight choice of pick one. 1. Noddy 2. Chopra You would seriously take a winger with less pace than an arthritic zimmer frame and no morals over a lightning quick intelligent footballer???
What a pathetic reason! It was actually good work on Chopra's part to get that weasel out in the first place.
Well we'll see how his career pans out! I bet he turns out to be a Premiership striker in the next 2-3 seasons while we're mid table in the Championship!
Bubbley - If he is so clever why did he move to WALES? I don't think he is bad player but no way I would want the club to fork out £2.5 million on him. At £500k-£750k I would be happy - remember Kabba was the rave at Sheff Utd and teh fizzy pp league for a while when he was knocking some goals in - and he's really awesome for us aint he? Bubble you going to Germany?
I suppose we did miss out on Chopra, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. If he had turned out like Kabba has since he signed then no-one would be saying a thing.
Signing Chopra last season would have done little imo because i think he needed experience in the Championship first (having not played for Newcastle). He has that experience now, and if he is available for upto £3million we should make a move for him (Aidy did say he wanted another striker). I wonder if we could also make a bid for Joe Ledley as well, not sure how he played last season but i heard lots of good things about him 2004/2005 so i'm guessing he'll have improved with experience.
To be fair Webber when on song wasn`t at all bad Paddy. Chopra is still young and improving Years Club App (Gls) 2004–2005 39 (17) Barnsley (loan) 2006 42 (22) Cardiff City He has played for England at each of the youth levels and is a serious prospect. Having said that I would prefer Heider - but would go with Chopra ahead of Eastwood, who I think is no better than Hoskins.
Webber on song was a smashing player - but wouldn't pay 2mill for him nor Chopra, HH back at 1 mill would be better for us as long as MK stays. If MK goes then HH isn't really the right player for us unless MK was replaced by a like minded player.
Heider at £1 million would be an absolute steal (I know we sold him too cheaply). I really hope these Sunderland rumours about Marlon are wrong, as he will be very difficult to replace at any price - the `outstanding strikers` don`t want to play in the Championship - I guess it is a wages thing. It does make you wonder if our best chance of top striker signings was last summer, although I know money was tight.
No fella, sadly I can't make it due to Work and finances! I'm sure you're going though, so have a good one!
doubt well buy any one for a substantial amount of money. All being kept to pay off the directors loans. Trying to get promotion on the cheap again me suspects. If not in contention come January :whoosh: go the silver from the club! Mark my words.
yelnred, I wouldn't worry about January, the world is going to end in October. However, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an amount of dosh being held back to buy back the PLC shares from shareholders and take the PLC off the stock exchange and be a normal Ltd company again.
i saw this yesterday aswell, would be a good buy im sure. but i think aidy is probably looking for a loan striker of some sort.
Just so, and at the current share price it wouldn`t take much money to do it. The best timing would be if we struggle up to the turn of the year. With the dominant shareholder it would be a `done deal`.
