http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/sport/football/article4663824.ece The Times report we are in for Charlie Austin. A. Proper. Striker. Yes please. And contrary to Gregor Rasiak's song, this bloke really can lay bricks and has worn a builders hat.
Out of contract this summer so I expect QPR would be willing to listen to reasonable offers. What sort of a striker is he? Definitely worth looking into IMO.
They rejected a bid from Leicester in the summer because they were holding out for £15m, I'm sure I read last month that during this window they still want £15m for him. No-one will pay that for someone with just 5 months remaining on his contract. £3m max and that's still QPR taking the p155.
A no brainer if true as long as it is not silly money, and if his fitness is a bit suspect being 3rd choice backup striker might just suit him, as he would probably be an impact sub most of the time.
Im not convinced he would suit our style of play but if we could get him for 5or6 mill due to his short contract I guess it would worth having him as an option off the bench.
Good player but...Too good to sit on our bench. Made of glass. Expensive fee. Likely to want significant wages. Strikes me as a lone striker. So no.
With Gabby Angella not getting in their team despite Caulker leaving them today perhaps we could offer to cancel his loan to save them money on wages as part of the deal.. Wouldn't mind Angella sitting on the bench for us, good passer of the ball and with the way we like to pass it long from the back he would be a decent backup. Perhaps we could get Austin a bit cheaper by taking Gabby back off them early. Just a thought like.
As long as he isn't too dear (i.e a lot less than £15m) then I'd be really happy with this. Good player and proven at this level.
Nooooo you ve only gone and let the QSF secret out of the bag.... All sh!te signings are to be categorised as 'for the future' their performances then get excused, erased with a neuralyser gun and never discussed again. Berghuis is 24 and scored 6 with 6 assists in the last 14 games of the Dutch Prem lst year. He scored and had an assist in the Europa league, is 3 years older that Memphis Depay, a year older than Lukaku.... God he's even older that Jonjo Shelvey and he's about 40 isn't he... Burghuis is not sh!te he's one for the future
he played 31 games in 12/13, 35 games in the prem last year and has played 16 of 20 this year Hardly injury prone If we got him for 3 or 4m then it would be a bargin
Would prefer Jordan Rhodes but would have Austin. Especially as it would **** off the fans that think we're too good to buy from the Championship now.
Would be silly not to take him if the price was right TBH I'm amazed he is still at QPR unless his wages are outrageous and he won't take a drop
You don't see a Austin on the Rhodes much these days, do you. How much does a used Austin go for anyway? etc
I'm guessing this would be a buy with one eye on next season, where we may be light either an Ighalo or a Deeney...or both. Makes sense to get acquire Austin now and bed him in, ready to fire on all cylinders next season.
Good player no question. Yes from me. More likely to go to Palace I'd have thought as he's bound to start.
Forget not that Quique's preferred formation is 4231 and we only don't play it because it doesn't suit Troy or Iggy's game. Austin (or Adebayor) would give us the option and maybe then we might hold firmer against the big clubs.
My thoughts exactly. Iggy will definitely be off in the summer, so makes sense to get his replacement in now so he's familiar with gameplay, players, training etc. Austin would be a good buy.
Obviously a good player, but where does he fit in? Can't see him joining to sit on the bench, is this an acknowledgement that one or both of Deeney/Iggy are off in the summer?
Bring him in if the price is right, tell him Ighalo is going in the summer so he won't be 3rd choice for that long.
Dare I say we'll be aiming for better strikers than Charlie Austin in the summer? So there'd be no point bringing him in as third choice now and then looking for better in the summer.
I would bring him in so no one else signs him. He proved last year he can score in the prem. if the price is right then there is no reason not to IMO. plus this deal has the added bonus off pi55ing off the QPHAHAHA fans even more. seeing as they dislike Angella and Toszer
In a **** QPR no doubt that's impressive. But Quique says we're going for 'big big players' now. Is he one of those? And that's just this window, imagine where we'll be doing our shopping in the summer if we finish top half.
We may be looking for better strikers but whether we can get them is another matter. I'm on the fence on this one as can see both sides
Indeed, in a **** QPR side it's VERY impressive. I think he is a big name & he is an excellent striker, proven at this level. He fits the bill IMHO. Other people may not agree & that's fair enough.
He's a class act - both as a footballer and a person from what I've seen I would be very surprised but delighted if he showed up
