Right and centre back who plays for Stoke and is a regular Belgian international. Appearently he was the fan's player of the season there last year but seems to have fallen out of favour with the manager. Anyone seen him play? Sounds like a good defender and Stoke are keen to get rid of him...
Seen him play once and didnt impress me. He was at fault for the other teams goal but that could have just been a one off bad day.
Think he was linked with Prem clubs in Jan of last season. I believe he's fallen out of favour because he wont sign a new deal and I think he is in the last year of his contract (but could be wrong). But a quality young players like Hoefkens and Jones (both can play centre back and right back) are the types of players i hope we are linked with (and sign)
Plays as a right back more than a centre back if i remember. I think he scored a cracker for stoke a couple of weeks ago against Sunderland on Sky. Looked a ver good attacking player, whilst being a ver sound player. Don't know about his contract being up, if it is, he would be a great capture. Which means he would be perfect here as we are a family club I think it's correct that his contract is up this summer. Dunno where I read it. If so, he would be a free transfer. I really feel we need a good right back for next year. If it was up to me, I'd release Chambers (whose contract is also up).
I hadn't realised how old he was! I thought he was under 24 and we'd have to pay compensation. I'd keep Chambers though and get rid of Doyley because although i like Doyley i don't see him getting much better and Chambers is a better back up.
I'd also get rid of Doyley but I don't think we can. He's contracted to 2008 and I cannot think of any team willing to _buy_ him from us. Besides, Doyley is better cover as a centre back than Chambers.
If I’m honest I’m greedy and want another quality cb as well…The player who I want to act as a cover for both positions is Marriapa because he is still young. I’m sure we can flog Doyley to some team who is at very worst in league 1 because he is a competent defender just he's not ever going to be Premiership quality.
