He was poor in the first half (particularly on the ball) and one free kick at the end doesn't change anythi... actually, who am I trying to kid, yes it does, he's a ******* legend and we're going up.

As Smudger said, this feels very much like The 4-3 win at Bolton. Late goal and the players and staff showing the togetherness you need to get promoted.
I’ve not celebrated a goal like that since the whole COVID thing started. Brilliant stuff. Not going to criticise anybody for today as they all played a part but I thought Chalobah was superb. The kind of player we all thought he would become when he was here on loan.
    Today I love football

The team spirit is something else and probably very telling that Masina ran back to the bench for the celebrations rather than off to the corner flag. Xisco deserves enormous credit for fostering this atmosphere around the place (and yes, I'm happy to point out that I poured scorn on his appointment, so long may it continue that he rams the words down my throat).

The Bournemouth fracas, the game at the Vic where Pedro backed up Sarr, the end to today's game - this is a group that has each others' backs. Sarr is a £30m purchase playing in the Championship that was priced out of a move back to the Premier League but look at that photo earlier in this thread, he wants promotion even though he's probably going to leave regardless. Pedro has absolutely no fear, won't back down from anyone as the melee at the end showed.

This squad is forging a winning mentality, shorn of the egos and influence of some of the senior players (when was the last time you remember a player continually throwing their arms up in exasperation at a team mate? Been a few weeks hasn't it?). Long may it continue.

As far as I can recall Bachmann has only made 1 major error directly leading to a goal in his 14 starts this season (conceding the goal vs Bournemouth at the near post). I'm sure Foster makes a serious mistake at a similar frequency.

Whoscored has them pretty similar, with Bachmann marginally ahead on 6.66 vs 6.59 for Foster. Bachmann's passing really is a major upgrade and very good though, and def helps us going forwards.

Given the form we've been in with Bachmann in the side, I'd say it's a case of if it ain't broke don't try and fix it. Foster will likely be hanging up his gloves soon as well anyway.

It took him a hell of a long time to get back up to speed after his awful injury, and I definitely wrote him off at points in that recovery. However, the last couple of months it seems to have all come together for him and he is playing as well as ever. All those last minute, languid turns and passes he makes in tight areas are now coming off perfectly, whereas before, when he was off the pace, would have been snuffed out by an opposition player. Also seems to have gotten over the mental block he had in challenging physically when he first came back after injury. And what a goal today. Long may these performances continue.

Yes, it's almost as if a large weight (with a #9 on their back) has been lifted off their shoulders.

Very well put. He looked fantastic with Capoue before his injury and most people would’ve been well within their rights, several years later, to think he hadn’t fully gotten over that injury.

If you watch Sierralta after put the ball into his own net, he is gesturing to Bachmann that he should have come for the ball. Moore was running on square to the ball, not meeting it diagonally.
On one of the long throws from Cardiff, Bachmann first movement is to go back on to his line. The header is won by Cardiff and he still does not come to punch or catch the ball the second ball just five yds out. Flynn nearly scores.
Bachmann is good with the ball at his feet, but his fear of coming off his line or dominating his area may cost us at some point.
A good win no doubt about that.

His yellow card today and the punch out of the area last time out. He's got an error or two in him and will he handle the really big moments that Foster would stroll through in his sleep? On the other hand he's done well with clean sheets and some key saves.

I'd take a slightly worse player if they actually gave a ****. It's no coincidence that our best run of form has emerged once injuries befell those in the squad for whom football is a secondary career.

    Bachmann has the keeper position.
Foster has to win it back.
If Xisco put Foster back in now without him earning it, that would cause serious problems within the team ethic and moral would be dramatically reduced. Also Bachmann would lose all faith.
Bachmann has done nothing wrong to warrant being dropped and deserves to keep his place. That's how teams work.

Bachmann may be the better and/or committed player at the moment, but let's not forget that Foster was instrumental in getting the team spirit back and encouraging the players to work together positively as an unit resulting in our winning run, so he does deserve some credit.

I think that’s right, but Foster is the better keeper. But at this stage it’s about maintaining the group focus to gain promotion. Next close season we can’t sort out the best 11

Well, he mentioned on Hive during the Bristol game that after Coventry the players got together and had a talk and agreed that they weren't doing enough to encourage instead of moan at each other, and IIRC he was part of that talk, though I can't quite remember if he actually led it.

I can not understand why everyone is so excited about the result. A 1-1 draw against Cardiff seems to be a good result, but we are still only in third position in the table. At least that was what was reported by the BBC website at the end of the game!

The report was quickly changed, but a shocking error by a so-called reputable news organization.

It makes sense they write the article before the final whistle, so they can post it the second the game finished.

Clearly someone is **** at their job though, and clicked upload without checking.

I also think Bachman could easily have done better with their goal. He’s so deep on his line.

If he’s on the front foot, he shouts for Sierralta to leave the cross and he claims it himself.

Bachman is better with his feet, but sides are targeting Bachman’s hesitancy and it’s going to lead to more chances conceded.

    Foster for me.

Just seen that stunning bit of twattery from your defender on the whistle. Seriously good stuff!

Bet that was some rush seeing that free kick go in, up the ‘Orns!

I was looking at that moments after seeing the score flash and wondering whether we’d been Varred out of it.
Then I remembered VAR isn’t even a thing when you’re down amongst the dead men.

As has been mentioned by many, an absolutely massive result for us. Winning it with a direct free kick just tops it all off. Thought despite us not creating many clear cut chances we deserved the win, Cardiff for the main just wanted to hoof it clear and build from a knock down, whereas we had quite a few 5 minute spells where we were 1 pass away from being through on goal. The free kick came from the only time in the game I can remember where Sarr took on his man/men, he looks exhausted but always finds a bit of energy when it’s most important.

Chalobah had his best game so far this season, while he’s had his slaters this season I think he’s done ok most the time, his main issue is that we all remember what he was like pre injury and he’s taken a while to get back to that standard, understandably. A very good player who will go if we don’t get promoted. I’m not a fan of Troost unfortunately, he’s not as good as he thinks he is on the ball and gets us into a fair amount of trouble trying to play out from the back, defensively he’s solid enough but I’m afraid I don’t like him on the ball and I’d much rather see Cathcart alongside Sierralta, who was immense again. Finally Foster must come in for Bachman, yes he’s miles better on the ball than Foster but his tendency to stick to his line will cost us, he should’ve come for the own goal and at least 5 other times during the game he should’ve just barged through people to claim the ball from crosses.

Don’t get me wrong today was a fantastic result and I celebrated like I had won the lottery but just putting forward my thoughts about what we could do to the team going forwards. After what’s been a very testing week for some personal reasons the boys in yellow have ensured it will end on a positive note. Days like today is why we persevere with the awful days. Up the orns

The best bit of about this is Pedro -

Sierralta might run away from after the he pulls the man bun as he thinks that he would be better off elsewhere. As shown on Quest But watch Pedro he is celebrating on the touchline see's there is trouble going on and run straight towards it. He is quite happy to get involved and stand up for his team mate. Only Masina pushing him away stops him getting right in Flint's face. Got to love that passion and desire to stand up for you team mates. Pedro backs down for nobody.

Depends what you mean by good. He struggles offensively left flank unlike Kiko the other side. Loved the goal yesterday though.

Bingo. Bachmann reminds me of the keepers we had coming through the ranks whilst Chambo was GK coach. Love Chambo to bits but he did not command his box well and it showed with the goalies we were training. Bachmann is still young though and he can easily be taught to command his area much more.

But he is better defensively than Kiko. They are different players, with different attributes. How often does Kiko defend as well as Masina, particularly in the air? Kiko struggled yesterday against their left winger too.

The fact is none of our players are world beaters, otherwise they wouldn't be here. They all have weaker areas and we have to accept that they will give the ball away sometimes. Hughes and Cleverly are regular culprits in how often they miss-control the ball or a pass. But they have other attributes that generally make up for that.

The good thing is that mistakes are now tending to happen when we are actually trying to make something happen compared with a few months ago when we couldn't string more than a couple of passes together.

Masina was getting a lot of stick in the shoutbox yesterday as he made an early error and a few of his passes didn't come off, although none caused us any problems. He was apparently "just so bad", he was "terrible" and all the usual bollix, but he has obviously been told to try and move it faster and forward when he can, and generally be more positive and he can be seen to be "fizzing" the ball to the feet of players ahead of him and I think he generally does well. He IS a good player.

I also think that he is "captaincy" material in the way he appears to handle himself.
