Its probably a very small minority of fans that think that way.

All of the people that I know who have season tickets are renewing or have already renewed and consider this season as very good.

If Bassini doesnt do well then I'm sure they will make their feelings known.

Watford could do more but show me a sports club, business or person who couldn't.

I also think they got the season ticket pricing spot on to encourage people to get one.

If we want better players, facilities etc we need to fill the stands.

You're probably right winners1980, it just seems a lot of people are becoming disillusioned with football so I thought why not let my local team know.
No harm done really and I just think a lot of the comments here are more honest than if the club asked us directly.

I agree regarding S/T's, the pricing is pretty damned good!
Maybe not so good regarding walk-up ticket prices though.
I don't know why but I still feel distanced from the club as a whole. As a single adult I don't feel part of 'the family'.

Every year at this time we feel like this, unless we've been promoted. The end of the season brings into sharp relief what a dull and pointless game it can be. Come August a 5-0 win against Borehamwood will have brought new hope.

It's true though that there is much to dislike. The match experience can seem pretty anodyne. I don't think I'd object quite so much to the corporatism if they weren't so **** at it. I've never used my ST less. At least we are a small club. I'd have given up yonks ago if we were bigger. We have a little to remain proud of.

3 new Scots at the least required to sort it out.

I understand a lot of the feeling on this thread.

Next season will be my third since I stopped renewing my ST, I stopped because my third child was born and I couldnt justify driving down from worcestershire for each home game.

The problem was once I broke the habbit and didnt have a ticket I had already paid for, it became very easy to prioritise other things rather than turning up on a adhoc basis.

What really did it for me was going to a few rugby matches, both internationals and domestic games. I suddenly realised everything I wanted from football was wrapped up and available in another sport; drinking in a pub of my choice at an 'away' game because i liked the beer they sold not because it was the 'away pub', mixing with supporters of the opposition and enjoying some good natured banter. Being treated with respect by stewards and trusted to have a beer watching the game played by men putting in 110%who actually seemed to have a bit of pride in representing their country. There were even fans that seemed to understand the game they were watching rather than shouting tired, over used cliches at the ref, the team they apparently support and the manager. The ref, bloody hell these guys get virtually every decision right and even when they're not sure they pause the game for a few moments while their mate rewinds the tape and checks to make sure they've got the right decision.

I'm not going to start saying I am a rugby convert or anything like that, i've always liked the sport but football has always taken 99% of my time. What it did though was ram home football's failings and where the clubs, the fa, the game in general has taken our once unconditional support for granted.

I am feeling less disillusioned now that I see I am not the only one feeling this way. I titled this thread “I can’t believe” because it has been one of our better seasons for watching entertaining football and we have got a good number of home grown players coming through. On the playing side Watford still seem to be going against all that I have come to hate about football in general and I want to support that. Off the pitch I am not so sure. I want to go to Watford and believe the players are trying their best for the team and be entertained. I actually do not want us to be promoted as this will just bring all the things I hate about football to us.

I've been watching Watford regularly since 1976, both home and away, and have been a season ticket holder since the mid-90's when a change in job meant I could get to most home games.

But I didn't renew last season, mainly because I had become bored with the "match-day experience", tired of the 75 mile trek around the M25, and felt disconnected from the club.

Having said that, I still feel that my support for the team is there, it's just that my passion for WFC (and football in general) has been diminished.

I went to three home games and three away games last year, saw some reasonable football, and was impressed by the number of Watford youngsters coming through. I'm always chasing news on the internet about Watford, I'll take in at least one pre-season friendly and a few matches through next season, but I can't get too excited anymore about regularly going to the Vic.

Maybe it's an age thing, or maybe football has become the latest "Emperor's new clothes", and I've finally seen through it......

Some people seem to think that the boring end to the season is behind the feelings on this post. Granted it might have been a bit easier to get over my general feelings abouot football if the team had been playing better, but that doesn't explain why I saw us let in last minute goals at places like S****horpe, Blackpool and Sheffield Wednesday last year and each time came back for more thinking this hurts, but it's what football is all about.

My problem is almost the exact opposite, that due mainly to things beyond Watford's control (although the QPR match didn't help) I no longer care less whether we got promoted or relegated. And how can I enjoy football when I feel like that?

I am totally disillusioned with the Premier league (or whatever it is called these days) - MOTD used to be first thing to watch or record at the weekend, now I barely bother, if I'm not asleep by the time it starts, I usually am by half way through - more likely to be down to the amount of wine consumed, but it is pretty damn boring. Overpaid prima-donnas, taking vast amounts of money directly out of the game - but it is unlikely a few comments on here though are going to change anything.

With regard to Watford - yes they get things wrong, but I do honestly believe they try and make sure the fans get a good deal - season ticket prices this year are better than I expected, but walk up prices cannot be made too attractive as that would persuade more people to take that option (8000 people making a financial commitment up-front, is likely to be more beneficial than a possible 2 - 3k who may decide to roll up on the day, if we're playing well because the match day prices are better).

I think until the new owners come out with some detailed action plans, it is inevitable that you feel a little distanced - personally, I am happy to wait and see, for how long though, I'm not sure. But I am renewing next year... So i guess I agree with Winners1980 I suppose.

The supporters are the only constant at football clubs, I've been going since 1969 and intend to keep going for as long as I can, and expect to see lots of lows and a few highs along the way. Saturday afternoons wouldn't be the same without going to watch my team!

And there speaks someone who has fallen for the corporate claptrap that is football these days. Better facilities ? Youre going to a football match not a ballet. Better players ? The only players youl get by paying money are money grabbing mercenaries whos only loyalty and effort is for the pound note. Look at Moan Utd. Hernandez, 6 mill and has torn the prem and europe to bits. Look at Torres at Chelsea. 50 mill and 1 goal. People can think up as many excuses for Torres but the reality is he has a good agent who gets away with murder.

I wont renew my season ticket and never will cos I wont buy one. Why should I pay up front for something I havent received yet ? Paying up front gives the club the power to go and waste money on overated garbage who frankly wouldnt get a run out in our sunday side.

Ive said it before and I'll say it again. I like the fact we are skint. Bringing lads through the academy is the way it should be, espeicially if they are local lads, representing the area in which they are from.

Football these days isnt a sport its an industry. How many people buy shirts, season tickets, overpriced tickets, overpriced food/beer and where does all the money go ? To greedy half witted egotistical wannabes who will only be remembered for bleeding a club dry.

The part I've highlighted reminded me of a specific reason why me and WFC are a bit at arms length at the moment, the rest I've no reason to doubt.

It was the home game vrs Barnsley which was nominated as a 'family game' or whatever it's advertised as.
£10 adult tickets, brilliant idea to encourage walk-ups or regulars to get friends/family along. No problem with that.
My nephew was home from university and as he's a fellow Hornet I thought I'd bring him along.
As my season ticket seat (in the Rookery) is surrounded by fellow season ticket holders I asked the club if I could move my seat to an unreserved one and buy another seat next to it.
"No" they said, "we can't move your seat, you'll have to buy another one." Oh, okay.
Seemed a bit useless to be honest and I'm still unsure as to why my seat couldn't be moved but what the heck it's only a tenner.
So I handed my £20 over when the fella then said if I cancelled my S/T seat for that game they'd be able to sell it on.
**** off! I've already paid for a seat, you want me to buy another ticket because you won't allocate me an alternative so I can sit next to my nephew (he's family after all and this is supposed to be a 'family game') and now you want to be able to sell my original seat on.
So for two seats they're getting a potential four sales!
(My already paid for S/T seat, my new £10 ticket, my nephews ticket & the chance of re-selling my S/T seat).

I'll probably re-new my season ticket for next season despite my general feelings towards football because of Harefield and the emergence of so many players coming through our system.
That I actually find quite exciting whereas football in general has changed to something I'm not all that excited by at the moment.

edit: The other thing that's really ******* me off is why do I start a new line for nearly every sentence??
    Idiot

I've already stated, to really justify renewing my Season Ticket I need a 75 miler ticket as I spend many weekends a year in the South West so miss many games but my circumstances don't meet the qualifying status as I still live in Watford. For the 75 miler you need to present 2x household bills AND be on the electoral role outside the 75m zone.

So what do you think about the following idea? May need a tweak or two, especially when it comes to topping up but you'll get the idea.

The club creates a further option for pre-season sales, the "Advance Ticket". For this the purchaser deposits £200 with the club for a ticket card. When he wants to attend a game he books his ticket online and its added to his card, the ticket cost is deducted from the deposit account at a reduced rate (happy if this is a little above the season ticket match cost as thats fair, this should get you around 10-13 tickets). Once you get to the end of your £200, you can decide to add further funds based on a percentage of games/time left till end of season or you get any further games at the reduced rate but you pay for them as you book them. If you have any amount left on the account at the end of the season is kept by the club.

For me this seems to be a win-win for club and supporter.

    Clubs gets advance funds.
Supporters gets easy way to get tickets and a reduced rate for their support
Club doesn't lose out and could in fact gain from it.

Maybe I should give Graham a call?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, I would suggest, should the opportunity arise again, just buy him a ticket in the same stand - don't worry if it's not very near to you, because I have found, this season especially, there are the odd spare seats all over the place (and I sit in the Rookery, right behind the goal, half way up) - whenever I've bought tickets, I've always found a seat within one or two places from where I sit.

Having said that - the service you got was pretty awful. Did you write to the club? Whenever I have written in, I've always had a response.

As for the buy a seat and find spares thing, the time before he came that's what I did and didn't see him until the walk home! We couldn't find two empty next to each other (not a Family Day game mind) so with the Barnsley game I just thought it would be easier to get two together

It's cheaper to go and watch a three hour ballet or concert with some top class performers and orchestras than some of the ticket prices charged at many clubs esp. if you buy a package for the season.

Football is in many cases out of the reach of the fans who made the game what it was.

One only has to look at the number of greedy wastrel corporate arseholes that will be at the FA Cup final and CL final and the shocking ticket prices that are being charged for what in many cases may turn out to be a drab 90 minutes.

Not fallen for the corporate clap trap at all, would much rather watch our youngsters coming through than any over paid waste of space like Ellington, I don't want us to be one of those faceless clubs only interested in the Middle East shirt sales.

I dont see anything wrong however in wanting to watch football in decent facilities.

To walk down occupation road and not think its a cr@p hole, to not have the red lion looking like a dump on the side of the ground and to have some where to watch football that we can be really proud in.

Every recently built meccano buildulike Stadium is. Personally I like a bit of character in a ground, i dont need to have 'well maintained' to make me feel good. Watford could be playing on a bog in the middle of Hackney Marshes and Id still support em. Corporate Sky *******s, thats newly built stadiums with shiny taps, self flushing bogs and breeze blocks instead of good ol red brick to hold em up, are. Another waste of money that would be better of being spent on strengthening the team.

The Britannia Stadium is really good. Out of town but only 10 mins from the town centre (still really in town), good parking and access, not a bowl so it has a bit of character, loud inside, relatively big capacity etc etc.

    Good atmosphere inside too.
