Would agree with that (Celtic and Rangers aside who are Champ'ship / struggling PL standard)....we signed a striker who had success the previous season there (Dundee United) who did well with limited opportunities in our team and we've released him....few are especially gutted.

I think to sum it up Buckley was a useful assest with some potential, but people may feel low about this transfer because our squad is disgustingly small therefore every outwards transfer this summer is gunna hurt big time. However, to get £1m for a fringe player who we signed for £200,000(?), we have got a great deal out of it.

I get the distinct impression that if Malky didn't want Buckley sold then he wouldn't have been. Personally I'd rather we didn't sell youth, but as has already been pointed out, he may well step up to the plate next year, but it's just as likely he won't. Brighton have spent a hell of a lot of money on a player who put in 4 or 5 great performances and a lot more mediocre ones.

I say good luck to the lad, I feel that he will fit Brightons style of play more than he will fit ours next season.

We have players in the youth ranks to replace Buckley.

What I worry about is thw way we are going , we produce a gem of a youngster and there are several coming through and before we have time to build a side they are sold from under the manager.

We'll end up like Crewe praised for all the players brought through but barely keeping heads above the water.

Thanks Vialli, Simpson and co for undoing all the work of GT in creating a budget surplus.

As for these Brighton fans they probably think they'll be in the Premiership the season after next.

They may be but they sure as hell are arrogant now they have a shiny little stadium.

The sole moment they had in the footballing spotlight was when Cloughie wisely decided to do a runner and they got thumped by Manchester United in the FA Cup Final.

No wonder most Championship fans already detest them.

Just out of interest, how happy would anyone here be if we (assuming we weren't broke) went and spent £1m on a winger who

    ...

Was playing for a club with known financial difficulties?

Only 1 full season behind him in the Championship?

Had 4 assists & 4 goals despite playing 30 times as an attacking player?

In those 30 starts he was subbed off 25 times?
(source: http://www.football.co.uk/watford/players/will_buckley_128654.shtml - I don't know how reliable football.co.uk is but I can't remember him finishing too many games!)

    ...

Despite obvious potential I'd be gutted if we spent that much on someone like Buckley.

To be fair to this quote if we got investment and got promoted with our new stand built and started buying players who have been playing in the league we are moving into and getting good deals for selling players like Brighton are, then we would be in his position defending your club when other muppets from your team came on bigging themselves up.
Atleast he has made his pointas without blabbin on about potential and stadiums and bs like that

Thankfully, the flow seemed to stem abit following the confirmation of Buckley's move, so there may be less 'tidying up' to do than you initially thought. Aside from Gavbha... can we request an 11 month ban so he can't post on here until next June, when we know if all the Buckley gloating was really worth it.

    Good. You've embarassed yourself.

And done your club's reputation no favours in my eyes. I for one will be wishing Buckley good luck as I'd like to see some profit for you guys in the sell on next summer, but i'm not so bothered about your team's Championship showing as a whole.

The way to look at what's gone on over the past few days, is to consider that we paid a combined fee for Graham & Buckley in the region of £600,000, and we will have moved them on within 24 months for a total of £4,350,000ish, + Potential Add Ons/Sell ons in the future. I'd say that's good buisness, even if it could have been better buisness.

Roll on the inbound transfers... please.

Was a good asset to the side in my opinion. Was something different, with a bit of pace and could take on players. It's a shame because with a decent run in the team he starts to play very well, QPR away, Cardiff home & away this season for example.

Potentially he can be very good, at the moment he's not fulfilling it, maybe he'll do better at Brighton where he'll probably enjoy it more down there because he'll get games!

We had exactly the same situation with Glen Murray but Poyet and his team are far better at motivating players than previous managers. It's more than a little annoying when 'upstart' clubs like us poach players (I say upstart as to many people that's what we are, not that many people are old enough to remember our stint in the top flight !) I would be concerned if I was a Watford fan but rest assured, there are several teams worse than you may think you are in this league. Palace will struggle as will Barnsley and Portsmouth. I don't think Southampton will be as good as their fans think and I can see modest seasons for both Cardiff and Reading.

    Keep the faith !

Buckley is going to be a very good player, sad to see him leave.

As for people saying it is ok, we are signing Conway. Get a grip! Yes we might sign him, but there are a few clubs sniffing after him and we have no money! Also have any of you actually seen him play? I doubt it!

We were in the play offs for half the season and a few points off until the last month, we might have no money and no players but we proved to be a bloody good team regardless.

You Brighton fans are extraordinarily cocksure, I've never seen anything quite like it. We haven't been relegated out of the Championship for 14 years, and then another ten before that.

Sheff got relegated last season with 26,000 gates, £3m strikers and all the money in the world, and Preston had a helluvva lot of money too. I am sure you will be fine, but don't count your chickens just yet. Nobody has any idea how they are actually going to do until the season starts. A new stadium and more fans don't necessarily mean success. Cov had a new stadium, and Sheff had tons of money and loads of fans. Cardiff had money, a new stadium and fans and they have c ocked it all up too.

I know you were trying to be pleasant, but that was absurdly patronising. It seems to be the Brighton way at the moment! You guys need to wait for the season to start before you start telling other teams that you are better than them. Common sense really.

As a long time Watford fan i find some of the homophobic comments on this forum deeply offensive. I played in Brighton in the summer of 2006 and found the people there first class. A lot more class than you lot are showing thats for sure. Unfortunately we're a club going down the pan. Prepare yourselves for a season of heartache.

Many times. He blows hot and cold like most wingers but has good technical ability. He's anonymous less often than Buckley was.

I still think he'll take a better financial offer elsewhere but we'll see soon enough I guess.

"New boy Will Buckley says he is aiming to excite the Albion supporters when the Championship season kicks-off in August.

The 22-year-old winger broke Albion's transfer record following his arrival from Watford, and he is looking forward to showing his qualities.

He told seagulls.co.uk, "I'm a player who likes to run at defenders and go forward when I've got the ball. Hopefully I'll excite the fans and do consistently what I showed glimpses of last season.

"Brighton played really well against Watford when we played in the FA Cup earlier in the year and hopefully that's the way we'll continue to play now I've joined. It's a good footballing side and a good team to watch.

"Now everything is completed I'm looking forward to meeting my new team mates and from now on everything gets exciting. I want to get pre-season started, then it's all about getting back to business in the Championship.

"I've driven past the stadium and it looks amazing, so I can't wait to get the first game in there and hopefully we'll make it a fortress from then on."

Buckley admits it was a tough decision to leave Watford, where he established himself in the side under Malky Mackay, but he is excited by the potential of Brighton as they move into the Championship and new stadium.

"It was a difficult move in the respect that Watford is an established Championship club and I enjoyed my time there, but as soon as I knew Brighton were interested, with the new ground, I knew I wanted to come.

"The move has been talked about for a few weeks now and I've just been eager to get it done. It's a big club and I'm looking forward to the challenge here.

"I spoke to the manager and everything seems like it's up and coming here so it was an easy decision in the end.

"I've learnt what the Championship is all about from my time at Watford and I'm confident I can become a good player at this level as a Brighton player."
