Britos is a potential signing for Sparta if their move for Udinese's Herteaux fails.

 

If it means we'll be signing a quality replacement, then sure...

 

Can't see him going to a third rate league like that.

 

Echo other comments, I think his best days are behind him, handy to have as a back up but I'd like to see a quality replacement before he goes though.

 

Good player. Distribution a bit of a disaster, but an excellent defender. Happy if he stays another year.

 

Happy to see him and Kaboul go. Would rather have Cathcart and Prodl start and have Mapps and Hoban as back-up. Especially if we're playing with 2 centre defenders this season.

 

Whilst I wouldn't be too disheartened to see Britos leave, those 4 centre backs would leave me worried this season. Britos and/or Kaboul can go and even Hoban on loan - but none of those should leave until we have 2 new CB's in the door. And hopefully ones good enough for the starting XI.

 

I certainly wouldn't be dissapointed by a new centre back. We do need one. I just don't personally rate Britos and Kaboul. Think they're both liabilities. Couldn't believe we signed Kaboul last summer.

We need a new centre back, but i'd be happy starting with Cathcart and Prodl.

 

Britos should be sold to make way for some real quality, he was a liability last season and constantly picking up cards. Bye!

Don't mind Britos leaving. I think we need to buy a CB and already have better ones anyway. Prodl's place in the first 11 should be nailed on, just depends who we play next to him.

Cathcart, Kabasele and Kaboul are all competent. I think Cathcart is the steady eddie, Kabasele is early days but I think he could be class given game time, kaboul is limited but can play within his means. Mapps is good as 5th choice and would be my choice off the bench when trying to close out a game.

Ideally we sell kaboul and bring in a new CB (preferably left footed, but not vital) capable of partnering Prodl. Would leave us good competition for places and enough cover incase of injuries.

We got 2 decent seasons out of Britos. For the most part of his first season I thought he was the best CB I'd seen in a Watford shirt. After that his form dipped, but he still put on a number of solid performances. If clubs are interested now is the time to sell

 

No doubt we need a first team partner for Prodl, any suggestions? Personally I think we should be having a word with Sunderland about Lamine Kone or Kevin Winner from Spurs..

 

I see Kone as similar too Kaboul but slightly better. Wouldn't mind him, but ideally I'd want someone slightly younger.

I like Wimmer, seen people saying Tottenham want 20m though which is too much. Fabian Schar is a good player, not sure what our chances would be like. Wouldn't mind Chambers because I'm liking this young HG stance we're taking, think he improved at Boro and will be on the fringes at Arsenal. Zouma because he wants to go on loan but stay in London. Pontus Jansson from Leeds had a good season last year.

I'm not particularly clued up on CB's outside England tbf!

 

TBF we slate our defenders for last season but for me it was an all round effort to keep the opposition coming back at us. However I will say that as technically sound as Britos can be he has never had the pace for this league hence the insane amount of bookings. He won't get any quicker.

 

Lamine Kone had a good initial 6 months when first signed but was awful last season by all accounts. Basically downed tools and didn't look like half the player when he actually wasn't injured. I dare say if we are looking for players that looked good last time Sunderland defended well, we already have one....

I'd love Zouma. Would take Sakho but not at £30m.

 

If Cacares is fit. I'd have him on a 1-year deal.

 

Personally I think Kaboul's more than fine in a back 4, he's only sh*te whenever he's played in a back 3. As long as Silva doesn't go with 3 CB no problem

I agree. I think our central defenders are generally pretty good, but we made too many mistakes elsewhere.

However, your last point doesn't take into account the possibility that leg implants that could improve a player's speed won't come on line in the next year or so and that the Pozzos get them first and try them on Britos who would then be faster both than he was and relatively towards opponents.

For that reason I can't let your comment stand unqualified.

 

Trouble is we don't have any full backs for a back 4, just wing backs. And the Spanish guy is really another wing back isn't he ?

 

so a 3-4-3 it is then. better than a 5-3-2/3-5-2

 

It's the fashion for modern full backs to be offensive

A 4231 with 2 DMs and 2 CBs making a solid block of 4 allows FBs more freedom

 

Herteaux signed for Verona I believe.

 

Britos was crucial at some points last season. He put in some really solid performances and imo saved us several points. As has been said, not the quickest CB out there but to be throwing out perfectly competent defenders because they aren't fast enough or put in a few bad tackles is dangerous and wasteful. There are players that need to go far sooner than Britos.

Agree about mercury. They make a story out of gossip from the day before.
