Did anyone just see Jessica Ennis set the British record in the 100m hurdles (heptathlon)...amazing start!
Well done Murray, guarantees GB a silver. Still hope Federer beats him though, regardless of medals for GB.
Murray and Robson into the semis - another chance of a medal. If Murray takes two medals for Team GB, I wonder if the haters out there will cut him some slack, as a great British Olympian, as well as sports legend.
Fair enough - but my point about cyclists, rowers, sailers and boxers was pretty spot on. I think the panic set in because the first few days of the Olympics is all about the pool and we were crap.
I was only teasing u...a lot of people were panicking the day you posted..but you only had to look at the schedule to see that from Wednesday onwards, we would start to flourish. Add to the sports you mentioned..3 athletics golds, a shooting gold, a canoe gold and silver, a tennis gold and a silver guaranteed (mixed doubles final just starting as I write), two gymnastics medals and quite likely a windsurfing medal to come today. And Shanaze Read later this week!
I retract my earlier panic and instead direct my ire squarly at the pathetic swimmers and male footballers.
Post match interview "Andy, she played so well didn't she?" How hard it must have been for him to resist saying "no, she's crap. I would have been better off playing on my own."
I think she's good enough, just lacks the mental strength to hold her nerve in important points. If she can sort that out I think she's going to be a very good player. I'm slightly biased mind, because I fancy her a tiny bit.
Fancy her or no, she was rubbish. The match was there for the taking. All she had to do was get her serves in and hit a couple of returns. Murray was winning it for them. She just crumbled. It was terrible.
Ohuruogo was amazing. She is the polar opposite of many of our athletes. How many people have GB have who've won World, Commonwealth and European medals, only to fail on the Olympic stage? Christine seems to crawl into a cave for four years then pop her head out in Olympic year and nearly won a race again, when the formbook says she should have had no chance. On the one hand I was disappointed that she didn't start her charge 3 metres earlier, as she could possibly had got gold. But if she'd started 2 inches later, she would have come fifth. It was a great silver.
Not a writer (or a paper) I usually enjoy reading...but this is a brilliant piece today by Martin Samuel. Well worth a read if you get time. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-2184180/Martin-Samuel--thank-sport.html
Savannah Marshall, middlewight champion, is out of the boxing. Out of all the medal hopes we have in boxing she was one who should have delivered gold. Hopefully a few medals to come though.
